Saw an article in the newspapers saying this was a "historic first same-sex kiss on Doctor Who" clearly they didn't watch the 9th doctor and Captain Jack.
Or 11 and Rory.
Or Vastra and Jenny. Or Bill and Heather. Pretty sure there were a few others, too; this was more like an "historic _seventh_ same-sex kiss on Doctor Who".
It's the "Disney's First Gay Character" effect leaking over.
It was the first time The Doctor romantically kissed a person of the same sex. Captain Jack kissed him and Rose goodbye. This one was a proper romantic kiss.
@@ihateunicorns867 Exactly, is the first time that The Doctor himslef had kissed someone of the same sex romantically, for Rory it was just pure playing like Bugs Bunny and Vastra and Jenny or Bill and Heather they are not The Doctor, but now with Rougue there is the first time that The Doctor have a gay and romantic kiss in scene.

You are probably right but unless I misunderstood the ending wasn't he sent away to the same place as the cos playing aliens who I assume would kill him. I do believe he'll be back in the future, similar to the River Song storyline. While I'm not a fan of the Doctor being romantically involved, I'd rather it be with someone who isn't a companion

When Rogue pushed Ruby off, the transporter said "matter transfer". It had already registered 6 people, it needed to be 6 people, so it had to be a swap; he couldn't just move her away.
8:43 If it helps - the triform device only had a maximum of 6, which the Doctor explained after they realised there was more than one chuldur (after the dance but before the wedding). There were 5 chuldur + Ruby trapped by the device so the device was at maximum capacity. Rogue going in overloaded it to 7 allowing Ruby to get pushed out.
Yeah, and it's a bit crackly but if you listen to what the triform says when Rogue switches with Ruby it says something like... "matter exchanged, mass locked at six".
So not only was six the maximum capacity, it was also locked in at that capacity once reached. It's a little bit contrived, but it works for the story and how it works is all there in the text of the episode.
4:16 I love how this episode just casually confirmed that Scream of the Shalka is still canon. As the Richard E Grant's Ninth Doctor is shown amongst the other Doctors.
Either that or there was a major plot twist with The Great Intelligence we were unaware of.

Perhaps there’s just a residual trace of the Shalka Doctor’s timeline within the Doctor’s biodata.

This episode was so much fun! And, as you say, an awesome episode to kick off Pride Month - love to see it! Rogue was a fun character, and had great chemistry with the Doctor; I certainly hope we see him again!
I think the reason Rogue was able to free Ruby from the trap was that it had a _maximum_ capacity of six, so him entering the trap overrode her position in it. Had there been only five people in the trap, Rogue entering it wouldn't have been enough to free Ruby.
I love the scene at the end, where Ruby basically tells the Doctor, "I'm not gonna let you not let yourself grieve". Friends don't let friends stifle their emotions in unhealthy ways!

Yes. It says: "Matter exchange. Trap locked at six". Earlier, they set the trap limit to 6, he couldn't turn the trap off, but he could change WHICH six it was.
I'm loving Ncuti more with each episode, he just is the Doctor isn't he?! Millie also does such an amazing job, I have a feeling we're not ready for the 2 part finale.

This episode was such a 'let's see how many random things we can throw in' episode, but in true DW fashion, in somehow still worked. Great scenes between The Doctor and Rogue. He's almost definitely coming back. My guess is we'll see him at Christmas or next series at the earliest.
i think "Just Rogue?" might be my favourite line in all of doctor who now
This episode was beautiful. I teared up when I saw the kiss scene at the end. Being able to see myself in my childhood hero brings me so much joy and happiness. This show means the world to me.

It was awful. There was no plot, the bird people were so nothingy they may as well not have been there, Ruby was given almost nothing to do, and the Doctor was suddenly uncontrollably attracted to a random bloke he only just met. In 26 seasons the Doctor was presented as aromantic and asexual, then it went to America for the film in 1996 and it never recovered. Since then we’ve had him be interested in Grace, Rose, Joan, Clara, River and now Rogue, and all of them are utterly out of character except maybe River and certainly Joan Redfern because he actually was human in that episode so that made sense. But otherwise it’s unbearable, the idea a 2000+ year old TimeLord is attracted to a man in his 30s is like a 70 year old hitting on a 6 year old in terms of life experience, these people are like children compared to him. But RTD will push his LGBT propaganda into DW to the destruction of all.

Why could Rogue push Ruby off the trap? The capacity was 6 only, so the moment Rogue stepped into the triangle it became 7, and the trap temporarily couldn't bind everyone in it. But he pushed Ruby off quick enough that it locked back onto him once she left the tringle and it became 6 again. (Part of me wondered why they couldn't have just put a human-weighing object in there, but I guess it's because the Chuldur would be able to anticipate it and risk them leaving the trap as they were placing the dummy weight onto it.) Not the most "reliable" trap, but remember that the Doctor had to "hack" it to go from capacity 1 to 6, so speaking as a software engineer myself, I can buy that.
I loved this episode SO much. D&D! Wonka (after Ncuti has spoken about how he manifested this role after told his agent he wanted to either play the Doctor or Willy Wonka)! Richard E. Grant’s canonization! Jonathan Groff and Ncuti having more chemistry than a technical college! Millie being wonderful and iconic as always. The representation!

Ruby introduced OK two and a half decades early: first appearance of the word was in 1839.
That's the first reported appearance. It could easily be a little bit older. And the only one who picked it up was "Emily Beckett", a Chuldur.
I called it as soon as they starting flirting that Rogue would be the hero by the end and sacrifice himself. But man did they give us all of it before hand. Absolutely loved it. The ring moment at the end was top tier. Possibly my favourite episode so far purely because it was somewhat classic DW villain, fun, emotional moments. I want more of Mr Groff, his and The Doctors chemistry was 🎉 giving Jack/River Esk chemistry.
You know what this episode made me realize? This season is a LOT like Series One.
Space Babies - First trip to space for Ruby with the Doctor having the same shot as 9 and Rose and the whole infinite wi-fi joke.
73 Yards - gave me "The Girl Who Waited" Vibes, but it also feels like a bit more fucked up "Father's Day"...
And then there's this, with Rogue being the new Jack Harkness, since they're probably never getting John Barrowman again, except this time, the Doctor flirts back. (Even down to the cooler-looking ship and the furniture quips!)
Also, WOW they acknowledged the placeholder Doctor from the comics before the Show came back... Respect.
The needle drops were fun too! I caught some Billie Eilish and some Gaga myself!
"We are gonna Cosplay this planet to DEATH!" is gonna be EVERYWHERE this Con Season...
Side-Note: Have you noticed how the old lady that keeps showing up is always a Motherly figure? Aside from being the neighbor and the hiker, she was the nurse robot in "Boom!", the mother of Lindy in "Dot and Bubble" and now a Lord's mother... I THINK she might be Ruby's Mom keeping an eye on her... But then, what about "Never seen a TARDIS before"? Maybe Susan? Romana? A Guardian of sorts or The Rani?
I have SO many questions!
(Side-Side-Note: NOBODY tell Yaz and Jack that the Doctor actually started flirting with a gay man the second they were left alone or they will start KILLING PEOPLE. They pined for SO LONG!)

Rogue asking the Doctor whether he was capable of sacrificing his friend to save the world or not makes me think that maybe that was how he lost his previous friend/partner. Maybe he sacrificed himself out of guilt for having done that in the past? Just a guess, though.

I'd 100% watch that, though.
The only thing I would have changed is that I would have made Rogue another Time Agent like Jack had been. We still never have gotten into the Time Agency stealing 2 years of Jack's memories (unless Big Finish have done it, I'm behind in BF). It would have been cool to have another perspective of a "company man" in the Time Agency. But he did mention a new boss and I wonder if there's any connection to Meep mentioning it's Boss. Or if it's just something else entirely. But otherwise, it gave huge Jack and Jack vibes from Series 1 episode 12 of Torchwood him and with Tosh back in 1941.
Alot of people miss when the trap says "matter exchange" when rogue takes ruby place so I think u can only get the person off the mat if someone takes the spot

Ayyy, ive been looking foreward to you watching this one! Loved it. Rogue is a lovely new addition to the whoniverse and Im BEGGING they bring him back before Ncuti regenerates bc their chemistry was off the charts!
My only complaint is these episodes (the whole series so far) would benefit from an extra 15 mins per episode to flesh it out.
Edit after watching: i think the matter transfer thing means that it trapped up to 6 people but once it went over 6, the 7th person would be able to move, so rogue stepped in but shoved ruby out so he could ensure that she was the one that got out. Its kinda glosses over it for the sake of the emotional beat which makes sense.
feel like the logic on the triform's p clear, it's set to a specific load, so it's not like you can't interact with it from the outside, so long as you replace the set amount of targets
My take on the logic is that it could hold up to six so you can keep adding, but once there's already six, you can only add if you displace someone else.

A theory while in the transport they show Ruby's feet stuck to the ground. So when Rogue pushed her outhe was literally stuck there.
I love this episode it some good fun before the big finale.

The episode was pretty good, Other than the Doctor and Rogue Romance part. I'm not interested in watching Gay Guys. If it were a Straight Couple or Lesbians then sure but not Gay Guys. Other than that, It's a pretty solid episode.
