- In this weeks video my activities on the homestead are once again fully dictated by the weather. I share some inside DIY projects, like making candles, and add some pretty lights on my porch.

Love the homemade candles and the lights Nikky. Both look so great! Thank you again for your videos, they are so inspiring to me and I look forward to them every week now! Since last week, I have a hawk sitting high in a tree just outside the perimeter of my yard. I’ve had hawks visit before but this time, he seems to have no intention on leaving. For the first time in 60 years, I’ve actually been visited by (2) beautiful baby squirrels, ( I’ve never seen a baby squirrel before) and they come to my feeders every morning and are so entertaining to watch so I’m fearful for them now. After a quick online search, I guess the best remedy is to remove all my feeders for awhile to convince this hawk to move on. I’m really conflicted right now! I’ll have to watch my backyard animals look for feeders that won’t be there, but running around my backyard in an attempt to scare the hawk away could potentially cause a baby squirrel or bird to bolt into the talons of a predator. I wish this hawk would just move on. The hawk shows no fear of me or my 3 dogs, but my backyard animals must now think I’m an old crazy lady, 😂😂😂

Hi Nikky! So happy to see a new video. As always I love the DIY projects, those candles came out so pretty. Too pretty to burn lol. I love candles I have so many my daughter keeps telling me I have enough, but I always cannot resist another new candle. I can't believe it is still raining for you! You have alot of rain and here we have nothing but hot days, very hot summer for Michigan. I have had to use my air conditioner alot this summer. The heat is a very humid heat, so I sweat easily, and it makes you feel sticky, and then if I run the air too much its so cold in the house. I am just happy when it is around 75 0r 80 degrees with no humidity. I learn so much about farming from you, I didn't even know what the salt block was for. I learn alot about your animals, if you're not from a farm childhood its so fun to see a working farm! I cannot wait to see your trip to France videos, wow, so exciting. I can only dream about France and through your videos. 🙂 The lights came out perfect, again you plan things so nicely that they always work out. I get all confused just doing Christmas lights! 😂 It was cute getting a glimpse of your grandma. I am sure you enjoy seeing her come over. I hope you have a warm, sunny week ahead and I look forward to the next video! ♥
Thank you, they almost are too pretty to burn, but I can always make more, and keep myself busy. Right now the rain is gone, it's very hot now. It's always raining or extremely hot lately. As a fellow introvert who loves nature, peace and quiet, I am so happy that I found this channel! I am not lucky enough to live on a family property, but I discovered that some people who do own land really don't want to bother with gardening and similar stuff, so that's where I saw learning opportunity and borrowed the land to try different things.
I love the clay candle holder and egg tray! You gave me a good idea with those, usually I make clay figurines. Generally, I like the whole style of your videos, it's clear you know a lot about photography. Thank you for sharing pieces of your life with the world, I understand it can take a lot of courage especially for introverted and private people. Looking forward for all that comes next!

Nice lights! That is a great way to keep things more real in mostly real time. It is disappointing when you watch celebrations and things 2 to 3 weeks or more after the fact almost like a re-run. I love seeing your animals and house pets as I have very special relationships with my 2 cats. Great also to see your Grandma I will assume. All the things about your charmed life are very enriching interesting to me. Thank you

Great video Nikky. I loved the candle making and definitely am going to try making those. I loved how you put the seashells in them! So creative! The lights will be so nice in the evenings. The videography of the sunset/sunrise and nature really gave me peace. I love how you film that. Thank you so much for this weeks video. It's raining and storming for the past several days by me also, putting a halt to outdoor projects. I sometimes think it's God's way of telling those of us that have to keep going to slow down a bit...and everything is getting much needed water.

Hi Nicky - do you ever use honey wax for making candles? I know you use soya wax, something I did not know about. Your candles look lovely . . . a nice hobby on a rainy day.

I would love to, but never tried it, it’s always a bit expensive, soy wax is a bit cheaper. But maybe I will try it out one day, I love bees wax. ♥️
NZ ....We are in the middle of winter. Snow on the mountains, never gets down here near the beach, but its down to 3° and freezing. Bed's the best place to be, so I'm watching you and hoping you will eventually get warmth.
Love your candles, black dried seaweed would be a nice contrast in colour with the white wax and pale shells.

Thanks for sharing your days with us. Weather does send us inside, even when we would prefer to be out, so we have to make the best of it. 😊 I also like to make things, I crochet all sorts of things…blankets, bath mats, dish towels, etc…my dogs love the blankets. 😊 I’ve done candle making and soap making also, but not in several years. The clay works looks fun!

Will you have enough wood for winter. Do you have a big barn for your animals. What do you do to prevent them from standing in water
Hey! I do, and if I don't, I'm always able to order some more wood. All the bigger animals are mostly able to be outdoors in wintertime. I have some very hardy breeds from the colder areas of the world. Mostly they do better and prefer wintertime over a hot summer. The ponies are shetland breeds, my horse is an Irish cob. They have a great coat for winter. But yes, I do have shelter for them to be dry and inside. I put in mud control plates on some places in the pasture and the field, and around the food area, so they always have dry places to stand if they want to. Of course inside the shelter the ground is also dry. If it's extremely cold I will fill it with straw to keep them extra warm, but they don't really need it because they are so hardy. The small animals will move inside my cabin if it's too cold for them to stay outside. I hope this reassures you, but for now we need to worry more about a very hot summer, if the weather changes again. ☀️

@nikkydegraaf we always have our winter supply of wood stacked in summer so any damp is taken off it we won't miss out should there be any shortage. Good thing having mini horses too, if you take them in, they can help keep your home warm

Hi again 🦋 been watching all your videos, still very curious on how you make an income$?$. I know TH-cam does pay you a little for your channel… 🇨🇦 Here there is no freedom to do what you want… only bills 💵 to pay. Unfortunately our government is only concerned with lining their pockets and that we pay our taxe$ to cover medical expenses for the majority of the masses, elderly & immigrants. I personally do not have any family heritage to bank on, I never owned a home, only rented all my life bla bla bla perhaps you get a government pension for being a farmer?
Hey! I need to work, so I have a job. It helps that it's my family's property, I don't own it, I wouldn't be able to afford it. Maybe one day my TH-cam channel will be big enough, but for now that's not the case. ❤️
