I didn't know these existed until about a year ago. The black does look daunting but once you actually begin to play them you'll see that though not easy, they are regular scales and arpeggios.
Hi Angela, just downloaded the Etudes ... what can I say except ... _"someday"_ ... they sure look intimidating, yet so very interesting indeed. Meanwhile I'll study way much simpler ones along with Scales, Arpeggios etc. Thanks again for another interesting and insightful video, God Bless. P.S: Do you use all the Head Joints that are on the table at your right?, if so, why so many?, just curious :-)
Hi Jorge, you could actually use the first etude as a scale exercise. Just play through it slowly or at a tempo you can do it in. You'll find that they work well for a finger exercise. I was wondering when someone would mention those headjoints. I don't own them but was trying them out and will be used in an upcoming video. Stay tuned!
"an Inky part"?. Everything in music is relative. Subdivide. Play semiquavers like quavers. Relax in a situation where they've written everything to fit on a page or 2. The Chart is like a shopping list to remind us how it goes. We're like trained rats, we think that 16th notes are fast when they're just subdivisions of a pulse. A Metronome keeps us on track.
Sorry Doctor Flute, that was just me having a rave. Must be going cranky with cabin fever. The extra practice time is good but I can't wait to get out & play again. Here the musical 'Into the Woods' has been postponed for 3 mths. It's shown the need to set longer term goals (instead of getting fit enough to play the next thing that comes along). Thanks for showing us what to work on & how to practice properly.
Enough said! I totally get it. We too are getting tired of these 4 walls. Everything postponed is just plain discouraging. Keep the faith. It will get better....eventually!
Wow, I did not know these even existed! I've done his easier etudes. Honestly, a lot of black does scare me :0
