    i didnt know that. the two pantographs are for ac dc purpose?
    cool. i used to believe that one is spare or for reverse journey.

    • @tandelbaba
      @tandelbaba  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Actually you are right if you see other Pure AC locos. This is an AC-DC locos!! The above line is only true for WCAM-1, WCAM-2/2P, WCAM-3, WCAG-1. For other locos yes the other Panto acts as a spare.

    • @Indian-from-India
      @Indian-from-India 7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Any pAnto can be used for any type of voltage (AC-DC) in case of all WCAM. Though in practice, front pAnto is used for DC and back pento for AC. Front pAnto has wide contact brushes to pull more current from low voltage DC Line. If front pAnto is not working then back pAnto can be used as DC-pAnto TOO

    How does AC/DC switch works on the station with dual voltage in catenary? I mean when the train is standing still. Loco should lower pantograph, then dispatcher switches current, then pantograph goes up again?

    • @tandelbaba
      @tandelbaba  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes. But that use to happen some selective stations around Mumbai but in those days, IR didnt have these AC-DC loco. So the Locomotive too was changed. So like in Igatpuri, Pure AC locomotive use to come arrive at the pf, it use tobe detached, directed to AC Loco Trip shed, OHE current use to switch, then a DC loco use to come out of the DC Loco trip shed and gets attached to the train which was very much time consuming!!! Each loco change use to take 30-40min easy!!!! When AC-DC locos came in, there were 3 dedicated stations on the 3 routes which use to act as loco change station. No changing the ohe current started saving time!! These stations had crew change too so the crew use tobe ready with the loco hence that too saved time
      Western railways Baroda/Valsad (earlier Valsad was AC-DC loco changing station)
      Central Railways Kasara for North East line
      And Pune in southeast line. But ahead of Pune was diesel territory so Electric to Diesel was done!!!

    We want dual voltage loco WCAM3 in every electrifed route because this can work on both dual voltage like AC & DC current also.So we want dual voltage supply in dual mode locomotive which have power of dual voltage like AC & DC current and diesel supply in one loco like dual mode locomotive.

    • @Indian-from-India
      @Indian-from-India 7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      No loco will get stop signal there. And even if any loco stops in dead zone unfortunately then shunting diesel loco will come and pull out the train from dead zone. This will be big mess. Timetable of other trains will get disturbed.

    Tandelbaba plzz explain again whole reason behind switching..??

    • @tandelbaba
      @tandelbaba  6 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      +Nutan Dwivedi mumbai was electrified before the whole indian Railways system. But it was under 1500V DC traction. The rest of india was electrified under 25kV AC traction wires. When they realized that AC traction was better than DC traction, tuey decided to change the DC wires to AC. The conversion was in stages as rolling stock was DC compatible and not AC compatoblle. Mainly talking about the EMUs here. Once the dual voltage EMUs started to come in, small sections were converted to AC traction. This video was taken before the final stage of conversion of CR mainline. The train coming from Thane Station is under AC traction and area behind me is under DC traction. The train comes in with Momentum and lowers the AC Pantograph and after crossong the neutral zone (section with no current), raises the DC pantograph. Only WCAM Class locos were dual voltage locomotives which were capable of doing this!!!
