Replace brake fluid Honda Odyssey 2013 with common tools

  • I flushed the brake's fluid on my 2013 Honda Odyssey EX-L (4th generation 2011 - 2017) for $20 using 2 bottles of 32 oz Prestone MAX DOT3 (you will only use 40oz), which provides coverage for 100,000 miles.
    There is not MAX version for DOT4 and DOT4 only has higher boiling point which is only important if you will be using your brakes a lot like racing. For normal driving DOT3 is fine.
    You should replace the brake fluid at least every 5 years (some said 3) to avoid having problems in the breaking lines and system in general.
    The PVC Clear Vinyl Tubing has an inside diameter of 1/4” and outside of 3/8”. It costs around $5 for 10 feet at Lowe’s:

    Thats the great video. Just a quick question. I have the same van.
    Did you leave the screw loose when each time your wife was pushing the breaks 5 to 10 times and once you tight the screw back, did your wife press and hold the break or should you let it go and then tight it.

      Thank you. It really doesn’t matter. What you want to avoid is air getting into the lines. So the best route is to close the bladder when she is pressing because fluid is coming out.
      As soon as you close it, she won’t be able to go all the way down with the pedal anymore.

    I don't know my car has dot 3 or 4....
    Which one will I use now?

      Thank you for asking. I would recommend to use the one in the video, dot 3 max, because it will last 100K miles.
      Anyway, check what it says on top of the brake fluid cap of your car.
      There is no problem in mixing 3 and 4.

    When you asked your wife to press on the pedal 5 times, does the engine needs to be on?

    • @gotitdone
      @gotitdone  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      No. You don’t need the engine on. You will find how easy it is to press the brake pedal. It will go all the way to the end since the bleeder is opened. That is how losing the breaks must feel…
