I'm six weeks sober, after 35 years of drinking heavily on a daily basis, and I just woke up from a very vivid drinking dream. It was very distressing, so it was a relief to wake up. I actually sat down and cried a little after I woke up, in a panic. In the dream, I was out with my family, as it was some sort of celebration. We ended up in a pub, and everyone was drinking, except me. I kept telling everyone that I don't drink anymore, as I watched them downing pints of lager and Guinness, and I eventually fled. I then went searching for a pub that was open, so that I could secretly drink, but every pub I came to was either closed or too full for me to get in. Then my late mum was on the phone, telling me to come home and stay away from the pubs. I am so glad it was just a dream and not reality, and I realise that it mustn't make me fall off the wagon. I mustn't let alcohol win.
To update the above paragraph, I have just completed 100 days sober. If I can do it after 35 years of constant drinking, there is hope for everyone who undertakes the journey of sobriety.

This is great to hear! I have hope now thank you for sharing. I'm quitting fentanyl after 2 years of injecting it 8x a day every single day. I'm down to 1x a day, waiting to get a bed into detox. My body is so stressed out by it my blood pressure is off the charts. Scary high. I'm also a smoker, and have been on meth over 30 years. Long story short. My nightmares are so traumatic and vivid I wake myself up screaming. It's almost bad enough to want me to just give in and go back to drugs all day long. I want to live. I want to help others. Hopefully I'll be able to say I'm 100 days sober soon. Congrats to you and keep up the great work!

I am 49 days sober, and I’m having extremely vivid dreams. Some bad some good, most bizarre. I had brutal nightmares during withdrawal, solid sleep for a month and now crazy vivid dreams again.

It can take many years for the brain to heal. Unfortunately, if may never totally heal.
I'm almost 19 years sober. Your body and brain will begin to heal in the first year. After 5 years, you'll start to feel awesome. The longer you stay sober, the better your mind and body will become, especially if you get into physical fitness like swimming, cycling, walking, etc. The sober life may be a lonely life for many of us, but it's the highest quality life.

That sounds more like you went back to your normal, neural constant prior to alcoholism. Your brain and body are amazing at returning to normal status. The issue is more in why you started in the first place, not why you aren’t healed. Therapy and SSRI’s do help, along with proper eating habits and getting a simple walk outta the house. You’re not alone my friend

    • @JamieWex
      @JamieWex 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

It does go back to normal. Like the other person in this comment said, it’s more likely that your norm is wasn’t so great to start with. Thats why therapy is key

My withdrawal dreams last only about a day, but boy, they felt real. You ever see, Hellraiser? My dreams were like that. People hanging from hooks, being torn apart. In my dream, one of the people committing these atrocities looked up at me after being apprehended by law enforcement. He was on an gurney, but he had no eyes. He said he was just trying to “communicate with god”. I woke up terrified. I do not wanna live in that world. I was completely sweating. When your withdrawing, your mind makes up some dark stuff

I always thought about the constant "drinking dreams" I'm still having, even though I'm currently over 7 months sober. So glad waking up knowing that they were just dreams, but I didn't realize that the brain was trying its darndest to readjust itself sober without any mind altering substances. Since I have a sobriety journal, it's time to start a separate journal - a dream journal! Got a ton of things to unleash on every entry.

I am grateful for my vivid dreams because there can be lessons learned from them. For years now, I have been haunted by the same handful of dreams that repeated quite often. Since, I have quit drinking wine, the continuous loop of dreams have ceased and I am now having new dreams.

I’ve been on a 3 year drinking binge since I was 19. I was stationed in an area where 18 was the legal drinking age. The longest I have gone without alcohol was 3 weeks in that time frame. For the past 2 months I’ve been heavily drinking every day and it’s my 2nd day not drinking.
About an hour ago I had this horrific dream. Im on a beach side and I suddenly get a very weird feeling overcoming me. My friend Sammie, who is an athiest, suddenly told me I need to pray for a woman. After this I hesitate and send an emoji of a statue and a man to him. When this happened I entered sleep paralysis and felt a vibrating sensation take control of my body. I began to pray and scream the name of Jesus and I woke up to a loud bang in the other room. I currently cannot fall back asleep. But I took this as a sign that I need to repent my sinful life and the first step is to quit my heavy drinking. Wish me luck. I will be attempting cold turkey after tonight.

I had never had a drinking dream, but on actual detox when i slipped into a "sleep" i was in another live...i once was in a war zone and we tried to escape, then i met a girl that i like and we talked and i took her out, and then i was in a company were i was supposed to start and everyone showed me around.
This is just a couple of examples which each felt like hours, just to wake up in a shock and it was 2 min later
EDIT I can remember every second of each dream. The "common" dreams i forget

I am now about a month sober from both heavy marijuana use and alcoholism.. I get these extremely bizarre dreams about smoking and being drunk and in the nightmare I start to actually feel like I'm actually doing it and suddenly regret it and my roommate in recovery home would tell me I would talk about how I would say or mumble "I'm definitely getting kicked out of rehab" .. very bizarre and I would wake up extremely thirsty and hungry... But all in all, VERY glad they are just nightmares! 😖🙃🙌

I'm currently in withdrawal from alcohol and experiencing extremely scary vivid nightmares that are hard for me to tell if I'm dreaming and even to wakeup from them. I did research and this is what I found...
Alcohol can cause an irregular REM cycle, called REM rebound. This applies to those who drink regularly and to those who don’t. That said, it more deeply affects those who have an alcohol use disorder. Alcohol withdrawal dreams are one symptom of the body and brain reacting to the lack of alcohol. Those with an alcohol use disorder experiencing REM rebound will have vivid nightmares that are hard to separate from real life.

I'm two days sober and just tonight after trying to sleep after a long time I was able to sleep but those horrible nightmares keeps waking me up after couple of minutes. Whenever I try to sleep again those same nightmares keeps coming again and again... and really I feel suffocate in dreams too. Horrible experience. They only way to avoid those nightmares is to remain awake for the night.

I used to dream all the time. For the past 8 years I completely quit dreaming, I guess the alcohol screwing up my sleep. I am AF for 11 months now and i Am FINALLY starting to dream again. I used to dream all the time back when I was younger. I still dont ever wake up refreshed, always extremely exhausted. I am hoping me finally starting to dream again is a good sign. Hopefully I start feeling more rested and not so exhausted since i am dreaming. I am ASSUMING since I am dreaming, that means better sleep. Just crazy it took 11 months. My dreams arent bad or anything, just typical dreams. Does anything think this is a good sign my brain is getting back to normal? This video makes it seem dreaming is a bad sign

@@Ghetto-toaster22 hello, I've been a heavy drinker over 30 years I think it's my body trying to adapt back to normality. I had a full blood count recently liver enzymes were elavated so hopefully they will adjust too. My test level was 14.5 nmol/l around 405 ng/dL, which according to my GP is normal for my age ( 52 ). Not at optimal levels what I would like , but hopefully as time passes quitting the poison they will raise further.

17 years sober now. I once laid awake for 45 minutes with my wife at my back trying to remember the details of the previous night. Oh the gratitude when I finally realized it was a dream.
Here’s a twist!!! I consider myself to be transgender. I presented as female frequently for 2 1/2 years. Even worked as female in retail for 1 1/2 year. Happiest time of my life. However I have lived as my biological self for over a year now. I now experience “dressing dreams” with the same super real feelings.

I am only at day 4 of this current attempt to quit. My dreams last night were very distressing. I suppose it is suppressed grief over many years coming to the surface - I had these dreams when I was drinking to, but this time it seemed more detailed and every time I woke up I'd just go back there again. I call them the "where is Tony?" dreams, although sometimes it is someone else that I cared for and lost. Last night it also included the social bullying that was going on around the time and the impact that had on Tony and me....(fifty years ago!). I am almost afraid to sleep again! Do post traumatic stress sufferers who quit drinking get relive-trauma dreams too? I'm sure I will also dream of alcohol, I used to dream of alcohol even when I was drinking on a nightly basis. 😥

I used to dream all the time back in the day but havent had a dream in 8+ years until I started dreaming again a few weeks ago. Your comment was 2 months ago so you should be at 11 months also. Since i started dreaming again, I hope that means my brain is starting to get normal.
