Dude this game actually turned out WEI better than I expected it to. Don't get me wrong, this beta looks like it could have been cool for a final release with some bug squashing and tweaking here and there.
But. Man. This game ended up blowing my expectations out of the water.

I also was so hyped 😔😔😢 Every Game I like turns out to be trash, Watch Dogs (1) Dead Island 2, Sleeping Dogs (True Crime before), Anthem, No Man's Sky and many many more, and games I don't care about people say they did way more and better than expected 😡😠
I fucking loved Sleeping Dogs, shame it never got a sequel!
WOW. This game looked quite different from the final version. It's one of my favourite games of all time. I will analyse it.
-The gun/weapon icon is in a different position. It's ammo count is in a different font too.
-No effects for fighting moves or environment moves until halfway into the video.
-Health on the mini-map is a different colour.
-The mini-map is different.
-The objective text is different.
-There is a hostage healthbar for the Top Glamour mission. This was changed in the final version.
-The carjacking mini-game qte was slightly changed.
-The button used to interact with people is different.
-The target arrow is a different colour.
-There is an exclamation mark used for incoming enemy attacks. Its changed to the enemies flashing red in the final version.
-Your money count is in a different position.
-The enemies have ragdoll physics.
Graphics are downgraded to
Ming was meant to be kidnapped in Loose Ends, but in the final version, it was Naz, and Ming was killed by Winston
And Naz was arrested by HKPD

Crazy how much of Sleeping Dogs was already there.
I feel like we need a True Crime Street of LA Remake I mean Activision could still do it if they wanted too.
Activision abandoned the True Crime name, and Luxoflux has now been defunct. But I do not know if it means the name no longer exists or if Square Enix can buy the rights again and find another developer or use one of theirs after they are done with games like Kingdom Hearts dlc ff7 remake, avengers, etc. what could be an issue is the licensing soundtracks. But I would like to see improved graphics, polished gameplay, and smoother animation. They could find another developer for the cancelled Sleeping Dogs sequel. They could even do that cancelled sequel of True Crime NYC when it was a follow up to Marcus Reed and it can be a interquel to that game and Sleeping Dogs.

@@solidmage1720 I have yet to play or experience the full version of TC: Hong Kong, I mean Sleeping Dogs due to the fact that it was trimmed and cutdown product of the original idea with Chow Yung Fat. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed trying out the demo on my old Sony PS3 but was gutted to find out that the finished will only feature some of the Hong Kong region (a very tiny part to be exact) ! 😒😦😑😊
NYC had a lot of more stuff LA had like taking subways, taxis, black market weapons, changing outfits, hairstyles, informants, fight clubs, street races, missions, and a varied random crime system, and different fighting styles.
Run and Gun mechanics were dulled for sleeping dogs. Thing I miss most was the TCNYC custom martial arts mechanics. You know shits good when Grand theft auto copy's you.

I love Sleeping Dogs but honestly I like the visuals and aesthetic of this more. Wei Shen looks cooler too, and the combat looks more grounded and less flashy, while having a lot of impact. What a bummer this version got cancelled.
Yeah, and his name wasn't even wei shen. Originally his name was Charles ho. They even referred to that in the official game, but said Charles "died". They just changed what this game should be, and scrapped Charles ho to be wei shen.

LA is good, I liked NY more though. I want a NY remake so bad. I don't even care if it's Wei Shen again though I'd prefer it to be Marcus again.

I used to play True Crime : NY on ps2 all the time when I was younger and remember being really hyped for this. Just started playing sleeping dogs again on ps4 and it's cool knowing that it was a true crime game originally.
That game was addicting for me to play back in high school when I had it on Gamecube. I also played it on PS2 as well. Activision really missed out on making this a True Crime 3
It still doesn’t feel the same….. it feels cheap
Martial arts were way more badass in true crime and I think the character from TC: Hong Kong looked more badass even tho he’s dressed just like Chow Yun Fat in Stranglehold
Same here, man. Loved how you can also enter many shops and places in True Crime NYC just like in real life. GTA doesn’t have something like this.
@@Salamander676 Nah streets of L.A is janky. Terrible camera, combat was hit or miss, aiming was also pretty terrible. Sleeping dogs is better.

True crime HK would have been the same game as sleeping dogs with a different art style and mechanics. It would have been a better game instead of feeling like a cheap spin off. Hence why sleeping dogs has mediocre ratings.

Beta version has darker filter, just like True Crime New York was very dark filtered and blurry. Still looks good and i would still buy it.

This could actually be interpreted as an inside look to Charles Ho's story in Sleeping Dogs now, since it's confirmed on the Wiki that Charles Ho is the original model for Wei Shen before they modeled him after the voice actor, Will Yun Lee.
This older Wei Shen model used for Charles Ho is also used in this trailer, and unused dialogue and cutscenes with Winston Chu, who Charles Ho was also close to in game, according to the Wiki.
Charles Ho was killed in interrogation by Mr. Tong because he didn't have the guts to kill so they discovered he is a cop. I don't know how that proves you are a cop or not. Poor guy.
I guess so, however We would have to take out some scenes here as it is stated that Charles Ho Refused to Kill even when it was necessary to protecting his cover.
The beta version looks awesome
When this was originally a true crime game, this first version of wei was actually named Charles ho. They even referenced that in the actual sleeping dogs game. They said he died. Technically he did, but that's just their way of saying they changed the concept of what the game should be, scrapped it and turned it into the sleeping dogs we all know and love. So in a way,they killed off the guy Charles ho, but we still got wei shen. It's just his name wasn't wei shen back then.
imagine if this was on ps2, it wpul;d be a classic by todays standards
My favorite thing about this game was the ability to dress like an Asian version of Agent 47 and carry a SilverBaller!! It’s the only silencer I’ve found in the game and it works great for stealth. You really don’t get that much ammo tho:(
Comparing the Beta version & Final version, the Final version feels more like the Cinematic & Remastered version of the Beta. And this is the first time I watching the Beta version! I am hoping for a remake of True Crime New York and Los Angeles. Or even a similar Asian setting in Korea, Japan (like Yakuza series) or India
Same here. I would like to see LA and NYC have improvements of the best features and no clipping, bugs, glitches, and freeze-ups.

@@gld3n711 eh, yes and no. The main character was always Wei Shen, and the narrative always had an undercover cop before Wei that was killed...
They used Wei's old design for this old undercover cop that was killed as an Easter egg... A rather fitting one as Activision killed the game he was to be in, for square to pick it up
That rename was an extremely smart decision, I would have ignored this game otherwise.

The problem is that many people have no clue about true crime series and they make comments like "make sleeping dogs 2" 😂 the name also sleeping dogs confused many people when watch dogs came out and they thought it was the same game.
Just restarted Sleeping Dogs and I forgot how fuckin great it was. When you beat the storyline and all the drug busts n extra shit it gets boring but playing it from the beginning again made me realize why I bought it in the first place lol. Crazy to think it’s already been 10 years.
This game always been a new ip, it was originally called "Black Lotus". I hope activision will release a true "True Crime" sequel someday, but they only care about CoD.
After playing New York City a character is named Leeland Shen is one of the guys you have to arrest.. And I'm like.

I actually kinda like this version because the police car looks more like the one we have and rhe minibus is more realstic

I'll never forget watching the trailer of Sleeping Dogs back in spring 2012.
I liked how in the True Crime (beta) version wei could actually walk instead of always jogging
A few cut takedowns and other cool features. I kinda like this version of wei shen, his face looks younger and better

I like sleeping dogs but man I wish this was the final product the art style & gun play looks like max payne 3 & that is one of my favorite games of all time

@@asiaticanpuma3291 I agree there wasn't a block option. I would have liked the block option adding more variety to gameplay. I can't complain because if it was for Square Enix, we would have never gotten a version of this game but I think some things Activision had going with it was really cool and the character models were slightly better. Wei was leaner, clean-shaven and no tattoos which I preferred. Also, it looked like that motorcycle mission was taken out of Sleeping Dogs or altered somehow. But overall Sleeping Dogs was really fun. Definitely not criticizing Square Enix. Just things I noticed.
The Character Model and HUD/UI were better in the earlier builds I think
Not to mention the environments, lighting and colors
The earlier model looks more like a rockstar game while sleeping dogs looks like a generic version of an open world… I swear the original martial arts were more versatile compared to sleeping dogs.
It gets kinda repetitive, dull and mediocre
FUN FACT: The Wei Shen model you see in this trailer was used for Charles Ho examination file photo as an easter egg.
Also just a heads up United Front games has shut down since 2015, until some other game development team takes there place we may see a revival of sleeping dogs (a sequel or spinoff).

Also, in Sleeping Dogs, the mole before Wei Shen was actually named Charlie Ho and ended up killed once his cover was blown.
It’s unknown how exactly it gone down, but the stew was nice.

I feel bad for this guy. His cover was blown because he didn't have the guts to kill anyone. His death was horrible even Conroy confirms it in the mini bus route.
@@coreycasciano3255 I think Square Enix should do that since Sleeping Dogs did a good job since it was once True Crime: Hong Kong. GTA6 would probably be another while and it can be Square Enix’s opportunity to do it.

In Shadow Tong chapter. The guy you go after is named Leeland Shen. And in "True Crime Hong Kong" the main character is Wei Shen.

I think true crime had more style. The colors and environments looked more gritty, realistic and appealing to me compared to sleeping dogs. It looked like a rockstar game with more abilities and potential

I wonder how many voice actors are the original cast cause I realized Tom Wilkinson did voice over for true crime and he plays the same character in sleeping dogs
Pharrell Williams and Sammo Hung voiced King and Sifu in the old True Crime Hong Kong version, so yeah, voice actors were quite different too.

True Crime is unique and has their own style, Total overdose was more acrobatic, dodge n shoot gaming style and still a very underrated PS2 game, it needs a comeback.

i remember i got into the beta for their new sleeping dogs game. It was like sleeping dogs online (i've forgotten the name) and you would raid other bases, pretty cool but not anything new. That flopped and they closed it down and went onto Smash and Grab, which also did shit and it closed down :( I hope the license for sleeping dogs is bought by someone else and the franchise revived

es increible el avance grafico que finalmente luego tuvo ojala square enix recupere la ip para un nuevo sleeping dogs me vais a pegar pero a mi este juego me encanto mas que cualquier gta,
Pero ellos son los Distribuidores, United From Games son los desarrolladores y Activition fue los que le obligaron que se llame True Crime y usar Hong kong para diferenciarlo, y al no tener multijugador lo descartaron y el equipo fue rescatado por SE que vieron que Activition cometio un error y ellos adquirieron los derechos , modificaron el nombre a Sleeping Dogs ya que True Crime realmente no tenia nada que ver y lo lanzaron para pc xbox360 y ps3 siendo alabado en críticas y merecido lo tienen. SE se dio cuenta del potencial e invirtieron más para gráficos que se agradece, en 2013 se anuncio la segunda entrega de Sleeping Dogs pero hasta ahora no sabemos nada.

Yes it is but originally, it was True Crime HK then Activision cancelled the game. Square Enix then picked up the game and it became Sleeping Dogs.

Not if you use the special costumes that gives you different styles, there's a costume for MMA, BBJ, Wing chun, Muay Thai, drunken fist, even Wukong boo staff style.
The combat in LA was really repetitive, New York changed it and added more styles and sleeping dogs perfected it.

How do you know the controls were clunky?
We still got TCHK, it's just got a different name and downgraded visually. Plus Combat was improved to be more cinematic.
