I cannot possibly convey how thankful I am that there are others out there with enough love to keep the older legacy of _Sesame Street_ alive. This was absolute genius.
I can't even imagine how funny it would be to actually be there in person experiencing this level of cosplay genius. Just watching them running around, swarming other cosplayers, and being amazed by everything is a joy to watch.
I told my partner I would love to do this. They said they would hate to dress up, but would like to watch. I said they could stay silent and I would say "Broken. Nope nope nope nope!"
I remember at a Youmacon, I was with my dad and younger brother, and we saw a yip yip martian cosplay at an elevator. When the elevator got full, the cosplayer said, "Sorry, all full." Then when the elevator went "ding", the cosplayer said "ding" too. It was so funny.
Youmacon is amazing. We have one here in Lansing, Michigan every year, and one year my son went as Dave from Homestuck and met up with other Daves and Jades and he came home so very happy.

Looks like it's a large rectangular piece of fabric. The mouth hole is cut off center so when the sides are stiched together the hole aka mouth hangs in front of your face and you use you hands to manipulate the lower part. Hope that helps.

I grew up with a lot of the older episodes (thank gosh), on VHS, I don’t exactly remember where I seen these guys but I remember them briefly from it and believe I seen them from probably that, the older ones were the best! I remember them....but I was afraid of them! I still remember them saying, "raaaydeeoo" (radio) over and over. It freaked me out!! I thought that was a common reaction, but now it seems I'm the only one. I had no idea people liked these characters and dressed up like them. I think to protect myself...as if they could get me through the tv.🤣When I grew up a bit I saw them as more humorous than scary. They hold a special place in my heart.❤
And now my ten-year-old daughter has an idea for next year's Halloween costume! It'll be interesting to see how many people in our small town recognize a Yip-Yip Alien for what it is!

@@dragondancer1814 I'm telling you, you gotta see Death to Smoochy. It's absolutely a funny film with Robin Williams hitting on all cylinders! The film gives a dark documentary feel to the business that has sadly become children's television. Listen...everything we had was better than the mass market slime that's supposed to entertain kids now. I have had a long dislike for those Netf gun commercials. The idea of shooting anyone even with foam bullets should never be considered fun.
Well, it wasn't my idea exactly. I saw a group of 3 I think at dragoncon and HAD to do it, so, proselyted and got a bunch of my nerdfriends to join in :) it is SO much fun. We have done it two years now at our local con in phoenix. Thus video is our first year. And I also posted our 2018 invasion video too :)
Somebody spent a ton of money on materials, and went through the trouble to make each one unique. Looks like one or two people did the costumes for everyone, and getting volunteers to wear them wasn't a problem.

A few years late to the party, but this crossed my recs today, and I love this so much. The Yip Yips are absolutely a favorite of mine, and seeing this many people who remember them and clearly love them is so great. Especially loved seeing you all coming out of the TARDIS to be scanned by both the Tenth and Twelfth Doctors, who were clearly getting absolutely no useful readings from their sonic screwdrivers...clearly, the Yip Yips defy even Time Lord science!

I remember one Halloween a group of friends got on the train (NYC) and were wearing this and talking like them and I remember it being one of the funniest moments till this day cause everyone on that train were dying of laughter

They don't seem out of place at all in a Star Wars Cantina! I'll let the Doctor Who fans comment on how well they fit in the Doctor Who universe, I suspect they go fine with the early low-budget episodes.
This is the best cosplay group ever!! You guys need to flashmob places as the Yip Yips and post them! Like gather at Walmart or the mall. Go grocery shopping…RV or boat show…art/science museum…the zoo…Christmas caroling all the lyrics are Yip and Oh…4th of July fireworks…PetSmart…

Getting on public transportation to find a bunch of them sitting quietly in the back seats. Gathering in the refrigerated section of the grocery store fascinated with opening and shutting the doors…or at checkout enamored by the cashier station…testing out the blood pressure station in the pharmacy…looking through the home decor section like it’s a clothing store…trying on curtains…macrame as wigs… The ideas are endless!

Even if society sucks and your job has no room for creativity, playfulness and curiosity are important self care. The more you allow yourself to learn new things and engage in play; the more your mind stays fresh. Play time and learning new things improves and maintains your cognitive functioning as you get older so you’re less likely to experience cognitive declination later in life. I recommend starting with a bag of multi sized googly eyes. Take them to work and hand them out to coworkers. I have a pair on my printer and my tower. They’re married. Sometimes they have marital issues and they stop talking to each other. It makes technical difficulties more fun.

The idea of shooting anyone even with foam bullets should never be considered fun.

Well, it wasn't my idea exactly. I saw a group of 3 I think at dragoncon and HAD to do it, so, proselyted and got a bunch of my nerdfriends to join in :) it is SO much fun. We have done it two years now at our local con in phoenix. Thus video is our first year. And I also posted our 2018 invasion video too :)

Somebody spent a ton of money on materials, and went through the trouble to make each one unique. Looks like one or two people did the costumes for everyone, and getting volunteers to wear them wasn't a problem.
The count was the best part to me.
this is one of the coolest things i've ever seen, my mom got her goofy humor from sesame street/muppets and passed it to her kids so this really just made my day!

A few years late to the party, but this crossed my recs today, and I love this so much. The Yip Yips are absolutely a favorite of mine, and seeing this many people who remember them and clearly love them is so great. Especially loved seeing you all coming out of the TARDIS to be scanned by both the Tenth and Twelfth Doctors, who were clearly getting absolutely no useful readings from their sonic screwdrivers...clearly, the Yip Yips defy even Time Lord science!

It is one of the few fond memories I have with my mother (who suffered from severe mental illness)... because it was one of only a few times in my life I ever saw her belly-laugh, so it became our thing= to watch & repeat the Yip Yips & laugh until we cried. 🥲 👋🏼HI MOM!

They don't seem out of place at all in a Star Wars Cantina! I'll let the Doctor Who fans comment on how well they fit in the Doctor Who universe, I suspect they go fine with the early low-budget episodes.

This is the best cosplay group ever!! You guys need to flashmob places as the Yip Yips and post them! Like gather at Walmart or the mall. Go grocery shopping…RV or boat show…art/science museum…the zoo…Christmas caroling all the lyrics are Yip and Oh…4th of July fireworks…PetSmart…

Getting on public transportation to find a bunch of them sitting quietly in the back seats.
Gathering in the refrigerated section of the grocery store fascinated with opening and shutting the doors…or at checkout enamored by the cashier station…testing out the blood pressure station in the pharmacy…looking through the home decor section like it’s a clothing store…trying on curtains…macrame as wigs…

@@sarina76667 You have a beautifully creative mind, but the first feeling I felt upon seeing those Yip Yips were those of me as a child totally immersed in the wonderful feelings of childhood joy when my imagination knew no bounds...and everything I dreamt of seemed possible. Seeing those Yips was like I was giving my child persona a great big hug.
@@Teleflexx Thank you for the compliment! Just because you’re an adult doesn’t mean you have to give up that curiosity, awe, and wonder of a child. Even if society sucks and your job has no room for creativity, playfulness and curiosity are important self care. The more you allow yourself to learn new things and engage in play; the more your mind stays fresh. Play time and learning new things improves and maintains your cognitive functioning as you get older so you’re less likely to experience cognitive declination later in life. I recommend starting with a bag of multi sized googly eyes. Take them to work and hand them out to coworkers. I have a pair on my printer and my tower. They’re married. Sometimes they have marital issues and they stop talking to each other. It makes technical difficulties more fun.
