      Actually he used more? He used Accio, Lumos, Nox (counterspell to Lumos), the banishment charm (was in a charms class in the book. Don't know if the words were said), Aquamenti, attempted Crucio, Expelliarmus, Expecto Patronum, muffliato, sectumsempra, Rictumsempra (tickling jinx), Wingardium leviosa, levicorpus, libracorpus, Impedimenta, Reducto, Stupefy, Diffindo (on Cedric's bag in Goblet of Fire), Episkey (used on one of the chaser's noses in Harry's 5th? Year. When it was bleeding), Langlock/Silencio, Protego, Reparo, and probably more that I've forgotten. That is more than "like 2" thats 22 and possibly more. You can't base the knowledge of how much magic someone does based on the movies. He used a ton of spells in the books. He did far more magic in them that was implied rather than out right cast. I mean pretty sure he would have had to know more than 22 spells to get through his OWLs and he only failed Divination and History of Magic...the 2 that needed the least amount of wand work.
      Now just like like MOST humans have favorite brands/ways of doing things so to will Wizards have preferred spells for solving issues. Harry's signature spells seem to be Expecto Patronum and Expelliarmus. But just cause he defaults to those doesn't mean he can't pull up something else to ruin someone's day.

      This is more like Draco than Harry. And how is Draco's wand supposed to know that Harry isn't going to use it for Dark Magic? And Harry does use the cruciatus curse to great effect with this wand. So according to the wood and core, the wand should still be loyal to Draco.

      Maybe because the wand core and wood kinda contradict one another to some degree, it was entirely conflicted on what to do (likely most of the time) and had to make a choice. Better yet, the wand might have split personalities.

    Grape vine with veela hair could be a very powerful combo for a part-veela witch or wizard. There are many different aspects to consider, and you did hit pretty much all of it... But.... I like to point out things such as Harry being a descendant of the creator of the DeathStick, as well as Voldie, yet having his soul intact (plus an extra part from Voldie's boo-boo)... That had a lot to do with the allegiance of the wand... The fact that he has the blood of the creator, the fact his soul is noy only whole but also gifted something extra... and the fact that the something extra also comes from a blood-bearer. This means harry's soul would have more right and more command over it than anyone else's... at least once Dumbledore died. The wand will always choose the master of death over the one who claims or possesses it at that moment. . . and harry was the master of death by all rights and means. Things like this must also be considered when talking wand lore, and i think olivander overlooked that in his time making wands. Sure he made lots of powerful wands, but he still didnt have the whole picture. Personal theory is that the Elder wand was wanting Dumbledore to have it when he and Grindewald were together doing their thing. That is why theyhad to have the blood pact. . . . because a fight between them would always be predetermined... Dumbledore could not be killed by the wand his great great (however many greats) grandfather had MADE. There are tons of curious things about the wands that shows us we really need to delve much much deeper to truly begin to understand.

    Question: Could a muggle/no-mag with knowledge of the magical world and its workings potentially replicate, perform, or produce facsimiles of some aspects of magic that wouldn't necessarily require the user to be magical? Such as Alchemy, potion making, taming of magical creatures, or spells/charms/rituals that make use of magical items or ingredients that carry their own magic that do not require a wand?

    • @jonathanrodriguez8589
      @jonathanrodriguez8589 3 ปีที่แล้ว +40

      Yes and no. Some things in the wizarding world can be done without magic or a wand, but most things do require the aid of a wizard's magical abilities. As stated by Newt Scamander, muggles have different physiologies than wizards. So yes, you might be able to do some things like potion-making but in the Harry Potter universe, some potions require the use of magic to be done. Also, you may be able to tame magical creatures but certain magical creatures aren't visible to muggles like the dementor to name one. You can attain knowledge from the magical world and may be able to do some things, but if you aren't a wizard, you will not be able to do everything. Now speaking in real life, you can really do things. You can learn to actually use your abilities. Everyone is born with the ability to look and interact beyond this plane, you just have to train yourself and embrace the aspect of that world. In real life, magic is not the same as the wizarding world in Harry Potter.

    • @Cwronaga216
      @Cwronaga216 3 ปีที่แล้ว +19

      @@jonathanrodriguez8589 as far as the wizarding world is concerned for things that require magic such as some potions you could instead use a magical object that has its own magic as a substitute for what you lack. A scientific mind within the wizarding world if they had the resources could basically brute force their way through most situations. One could theoretically overcome muggle limitations and "physiology". Ive always thought that the wizarding worlds greatest flaw was ignoring muggle science and not applying it into magic. Magic even though wondrous and capable of things people couldn't imagine is actually outpaced by science in many regards in the wizarding world. This is mostly however because the wizarding world has change very slowly and stagnated due to remaining separate from the majority of humanity.

    • @jonathanrodriguez8589
      @jonathanrodriguez8589 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      @@Cwronaga216 YES!! There are also some things in the "real world" that you can use to express your abilities such as Crystal's which are known to aid in whatever it is you're doing with magic. One person in the fiction world that I know to use science is Doctor Frankenstein and I see that as a type of magic. He uses science to achieve various things. His knowledge in science was powerful but like magic, was also limited. You can also use common things like salt or water. Mostly anything you use in real life can be used magically, which is something mentioned but not commonly refered to in the Harry Potter universe such as elemental magic. Divinination was probably one of few things that was actually explained that muggles can also do.

      I believe that although a second wand made out of these specific items would be extremely powerful, it wouldn’t quite measure up to the power of the Elder wand.
      This mainly would be due to the fact that the Elder Wand was created by Death itself, and is a physical representation of Death, which in both real world and Harry Potter lore is one of the most powerful spiritual elements known.

    • @jasonwright1687

      Yes, and no. The myth is that death made it.. In reality it was one of the peverrel brothers. The one Dumbledore was descended from. That guy actually was a gifted wand maker. He made a number of elder wands... Many attempts failed... A few succeeded. It takes a wand to make a wand (of that skill level and difficulty) and after much practice and failure, he was finally able to get one hair to align properly and "take"... Hat was the first elder wand. He used it to then make a better wand, which in turn was used to make a better one. 7times of creating an elder wand, 6 made while using an elder wand to make it... The final product was the Death Stick. The runes on there are to bind the magical power of the hair and control / duct the flow of energy. The flattened part on the end is meant to help it rest on the part where palm meets wrist (this is the epicenter for flow of magic from the hands when spellcasting)... Ultimately, it has an actual special ability no one talks about. It specializes in wands.... A wand made for other wands. While most are made to channel a wizard's energy, this is made to make/repair/destroy wands. This means it had the power if command when facing other wands. That and the fact that the wielder almost always gets a major confidence boost (making them more sure of themselves and thus more likely to succeed in the casting as well as all around more power behind it).... (How Harry knew his patronus would work... The confidence of knowing it had already done it...)

      The Elder Wand is the only Wand in the Harry Potter Universe made out of 3 parts (as far as i know.)
      Wands are Made of Wood and Core however the Elder Wand is made of Wood,Core and Will. (not official but i call it will).
      Why the 3rd material ?
      Death tricked the 3 people which cheated death with items that are in truth meant for killing them. Thats why i call it "Will" because it is the Will of Death to bring death. Its a cursed Wand and sooner or later the owner will eventualy die.
      Take Dumbeldore as Example:
      He was killed and targeted mainly because Voldemort wanted his Wand just like all previous owners were killed for it. On top of that Dumbeldore came in contact with a second Cursed Item made by death which resulted in Dumbedore wearing it and being cursed by Voldemords curse on the ring. However deaths Will made him wear it in the first place because even the mighty Dumbeldore couldnt resist it. Nothing is knows about the Cloak as far as i know except that the original wearer also died because of it.

      There's a saying in the wizarding world about this: Wand of Elder, never prosper. Having an Elder wand is seen as being very dangerous because of its ties to _the_ Elder wand and that you won't get far with one (probably because someone's going to kill you for it thinking it's the Deathstick) so I don't know that many people would mess with that combination, let alone Elder wood.

    I would think Thunderbird feathers to be even rarer than Phoenix feathers due to Thunderbirds inability to resurrect themselves from their ashes. A single phoenix might be able to produce several feathers suitable for a wand core over its almost infinite lifespan. Whereas a Thunderbird doesn’t do this and once one dies, that’s it. Also in real life mythology the American Thunderbird is fairly sparse just like a phoenix so I’d imagine theirs probably comparable numbers or both bird types.

Either way I would think a Niffler Hair would be a cool wand core, and the Hippogriff, would be an awesome wand core as well, very loyal to those that show respect, and I would think highly intelligent wands from the Hippogriff, And lets see, The Manticore, That might produce some interesting wands as well. There are just so many

    To be fair, these 20 wand cores only seem to represent what is available to wizards in Europe, North America and Brazil. But what about wizards in Asia, Africa, Australia or the rest of Latin America? Surely there are more magical creatures from which to select a suitable core from for the witches and wizards living in these places. So worldwide there really must be well over 20 types of wand cores.

    Going by how ordinary shell can be used a wand core, I’m guessing that any ordinary bone can be used as a core too and not just bones of magical creatures or humans. Going by this, I wonder what would happen if a muggle who is very knowledgeable about the magical world, were to make a wand for himself/herself using one of their own bones as a core? Say he/she lost their pinky toe in an accident but they used the bone inside to make a wand. Would the wand still knock the muggle backwards or would it allow the person to wave it and use it because the wand is quite literally an extension and a part of the muggle? Granted even if it didn’t kickback against him/her nothing would probably still happen because a wand is just a tool to channel magic from the magical human/creature. And if that human has no magic in them then a wand is just a stick.

It is said that the possessor of an apple wand will be well-loved and long-lived, and I have often noticed that customers of great personal charm find their perfect match in an applewood wand. An unusual ability to converse with other magical beings in their native tongues is often found among apple wand owners, who include the celebrated author of Merpeople: A Comprehensive Guide to Their Language and Customs, Dylan Marwood.

    Theory: Vernon and Marge Dursley are squibs.
    We know nothing about their family and it would somewhat explain their absurd level of hostility to Harry

      What about the fact they know nothing about magic? They’re just really mean muggles.

      There was a fabric, The Dursley witch where Vernon and Marge are squibs. It also has an OC, Roisien Dursley, who is Dudley's twin sister, a witch, and is sorted to Slytherin House.

      @Herro Jonah Squibs not not necessarily see Dementors plus no Dementor was ever in Marge's or Vernon's line of sight.

    I took the wand core type quiz, and it gave me the Elder wand! Cool, yet.... not exactly a wand core type. I guess it kind is... since its the only thestral hair core

    With all the magical creatures in the HP universe, I find it hard to believe their are only 20 core types for wands. I mean no thought about using hippogriff feathers? Or what about mermaid scales? Pixie wings?

    This is a great countdown also my favorite ward core would be dittany now because it might be the only plant used for a ward core.

    So the unicorn core is just the exact oppisite from the dragon core.
    While a dragon core wand can be easly turned to the dark arts the unicorn core is the hardest to turn to the dark arts.
    While dragon core wands can change allegiance if won from their original master the unicorn core wands will always be strongly attached to their first owner and faithfull.
    While dragon core wands is the most prone to accidents being somewhat temperamental the unicorn core wands have the most consistent magic, and are least subject to fluctuations and blockages.

    If Dragon cores are prone to accidents, wouldn't it be safe to conclude that Seamus Finnigan's wand has a dragon heartstring core?
