Charlie Morton. 3 years of 200+ k’s AFTER age 33. 3 wins in game 7’s. Still making batters look like fools on his curveball. Clubhouse presence is definitely a plus!!! Where would the Braves be without him….. still the best team but beatable in 7. His next game might be tough, but after that, he will be spot-on.
I have collected Don Mattingly since about 1990 (when i was old enough to buy my own cards). I totally get it. Personally I would be fine with his prices going down to make acquisition even cheaper. haha.
Hey Scottie, I have some questions and need some help. First, do you use card ladder to find out previous sales? If not which one do you use? And second how do you find out how many rookies cards or rookie refractors a player has from previous sets like Chase Utley for example?
I'm the same way. The most expensive card I've ever bought was an Aaron Judge on card auto for 140 bucks back in 2019. I really don't like to go higher than 50 bucks for a single card.
my most expensive card in my pc is like $100 and it takes a big drop off after that. theyre cool to look at and have, but at the end of the day, theyre just a cardboard photo.
Mark Grace is one I collect knowing his cards aren't going to go up. Fan favorite for the Cubs and one of my favorite players growing up. Any thoughts on yesterday's (Shohei's injury game) Angels game stub being of any value. Me and my son just happened to go. Great to se a slcouple k's and a nice jack to right but he may never pitch as starter again (or ever).. Kind of seems like a significant game (ticket stub wise), maybe not
I have tons of failed prospects cards from the 90s and early 2000s still in top loaders lol. It's hard to resist the idea of buying a box of bowman chrome or regular bowman hoping that you pull someone that will pan out but most end up not worth much in the long run.

Really focusing in on PC'ing Ha-Seong Kim, dude's going to go down as the best Korean player ever it seems. Juan Soto seems to be the safest to collect out of modern players. Hasn't been hurt (knock on wood), young, and in the Ted Williams category already. Sure he walks a lot but better than striking out. I swung and missed big time on Wander Franco. Sticking to Soto. Only thing I think could get Soto in trouble is if he lied about his age 😂

I have a lot of cards that I no longer want and am looking to sell them, they are not just baseball cards I also have football and basketball cards as well. Have not collected in years so my collection is older
I’d say that if your trying to make money in the hobby, long term holds aren’t the way to go. Anything can happen to a player long term such as injury or off the field issues (Wander Franco). You also have to factor in new players entering the league and taking away the hype from some guys. Every year new product comes out people will be paying attention to the new rookies, and not care as much about other players from years past. Guys like Luis Robert, Yordan Alvarez, and Juan Soto, while they’re still good, and have card followings, are getting overshadowed by Elly, Acuña, and Ohtani. Even someone like Kyle Tucker who’s been really good, and been a key player in the Astros dynasty, doesn’t have the same “hobby love” as the top guys previously mentioned. I’ve personally found some success flipping, most recently on COMC. Flip Low-mid end, and buy PC cars with the profit.
I disagree…what collectors/“investors” are doing now…short term flipping…is a horrible strategy and you’ll make much more IF you buy and hold at a sweet spot of a players career…large enough sample size but not toward end of career…
If you are only collecting hyped players and buying top of the market you are screwed. We hit the top of the market and we won’t see this again for many years. Plus modern cards are way over printed. Once people start dumping their collections we will see another huge decrease. His is getting close especially with all of these can’t miss players are becoming duds. Remember Brien Taylor and Dan McGwire? Don’t be stupid!
You put some bizarre things out there in this video. For eg, ‘If he’d (Markakis) have played for just a few more seasons he might have gotten [sic] to that point.’ My boy never in his career had 200 hits in a season. 2388 hits is a lifetime away from 3k hits when you’re getting old. Not only do your stats deteriorate with each passing year but you’re also likely playing less not only because you’re not as good but also because of injury. Suggesting a few more seasons and he’d have hit the Clemente Club is a little ridiculous. While WAR alone doesn’t assure a player does or doesn’t get into the Hall, there’s no reason to even consider anyone under a 40 WAR nowadays. (Ignoring pitchers obv). It’s a waste of time. A player can have value even not making the Hall but they needed a short burst of superstardom almost during their career. (And scarcity of high graded rookies wouldn’t hurt either) Such as an Eric Davis whose ‘85 Topps junk wax central PSA 10 (almost 1,600 graded and only 48 PSA 10s, ~3% of submissions) goes for around $1k+ generally. Eric the Red still has pull because during his career he pulled.
The is understanding there's 2-3 athletes per sport every decade that meet the criteria for in game performance and mainstream hype to keep their cards going up. NBA: Curry and LeBron Soccer: Messi and Ronaldo NFL: Brady and Mahomes MLB: Ohtani and ? If you look at it from this perspective, speculating isnt an insurmountable feat, you just have to pick your spots and wait for a guy to do something that makes him look like he could be the #1 or #2 guy for this decade in that particular sport.
My boy Xander made your list. Love it. Who collects Hosmer?!😂 sorry for being mean. I collect Padres players for my PC. If Soto signs a long term contract with the Padres, does that mean his card value will go up? I also see his stats improving as he gets older. He is still pretty young. I think 24? #LFGSDPadres 😊
I purchased two PSA 10 Corey Seager rookie cards last year for really cheap: 1 chrome, 1 flagship. I did this due to your statistics,...that he would statistically benefit most from the 'infielders rule change'. Looks like he's doing a little better than statistics showed last year, except for his injury earlier, of course. Not sure if I should hold or sell. I think it's kind of fun that the value went up a tad. 😀 But what happens if he comes down to earth next year? Oh well. 🙂
Me: collecting Luis Garcia Nats and Victor Robles. While I’m pretty certain Robles will no longer attain any kind of future value, I still think Luis Garcia is worth giving a chance since he is still only 23.
I seem to gravitate towards players that no one else in their right mind would collect, lol... Trent Grisham, Franmil Reyes, Patrick Wisdom... I mean... why? Why do I do that?
I agree. While he's one of the most controversial case in all of MLB history, he's also one of the greatest to play yhe game and I put him up there with Ruth and Aaron. Call me crazy, but I think he could've broke the homerun record without the steroids.
If the hobby really existed in 1955,would collectors have gone gaga over Karl Spooner? He broke in with 2 shutouts in '54,striking out 27. As it is,Dean's Cards is asking $205 for his rookie card. What would it have been had he not gotten hurt?
If you’re a collector/investor or just an investor SURE FIRE HOFers are the only way too go…example Harold Baines RCs horrible but Hank Aaron best of best…more modern Scott Rolen horrible Mike Trout and Ichiro…golden…
Comparing u to jabs family - he buys every type of card open every type of box set and that be expensive and not efficient in an investment mode - u on the other hand look for quality of prime player on the majority and I believe this is what ur strategy is - I have changed my plan to mimic urs - quality over quantity- I have gone thru ur library and learned from and set me new outlook on cards - the hobby is frickle and it has a new outlook - good luck and ur show is dynamite !!!! Before you spend over 100 dollars on one card just think of these names. Aristides Aquino Yermin Mercedes Austin Meadows and of course Wander Franco. All of them players had at one time their rookie or 1st Bowman card over 100 dollars. Franco is the only one that is still in the league but maybe not for long.

This is the sad fact of the hobby; most of these cards will be worthless, topps knows this, which is why I've always been an advocate for them to lower the price of boxes, today especially when you hand them 200 dollars a box, and get 15 dollars worth of cards inside
People and collect however they want, but if you're collecting anything but vintage for long term vaule, you deserve what you get. I just collect who and what i like. I dont care about value
Each year there are only 1-3 HOF RCs in each Sport. Look at the the HOF Inductees - the list is bigger based on Players making it in through the Veterans Committee. I have always collected Players I liked from the Draft, International Free Agency, Minors, Majors or Negro League after hearing or reading their stories. $50-100 is the top of my range for the biggest card with a few exceptions. I have spent up to $360 for NBA Autographed RCs, but the NBA is a lot more predictable as for Players Development. Between 2012-2018 it was much easier to speculate on Sportscards; now that Sportscards are so inflated then I pull what I pull and that’s it. I only buy and keep a few Players since 2018…what PSA deems as Ultra Modern…the era of overproduction. 😂⚾️🏀🏈🤓
Let's guess how many Tommy John surgeries Ohtani will have. I definitely feel like only 1% of players prospected on in the last six or seven years will pay off.
Yeah he couldn't have picked a worse time to get hurt with his MVP race and contract negotiations coming up. I think he'll be forced to pick pitching or hitting.
A team that's equipped to knowingly stabilize a HUMAN, of which Ohtani indeed is, can make him an incredibly good long-reliever/setup man as to not overwork him and have him hit per usual
No card is worthless if you enjoy collecting them. I understand people wana try and maximize profits in every area of their life but doing that for a hobby is just ridiculous in my opinion. Its just the system we live in tho. Gouge people trying to have a good time.

NBA: Curry and LeBron
Soccer: Messi and Ronaldo
NFL: Brady and Mahomes
MLB: Ohtani and ?
If you look at it from this perspective, speculating isnt an insurmountable feat, you just have to pick your spots and wait for a guy to do something that makes him look like he could be the #1 or #2 guy for this decade in that particular sport.
Ohtani and acuna
Oh well. 🙂
What happened to Juan soto
Lindor is way ahead of Seager Correa and Bogaerts to get to the HOF. He’s 29 with 47 fwar.
Who is going too win AL mvp now?
Ohtani. He won it in June already
Is the title a rhetorical question, I generally don't answer those.
Dustin Pedroia?
I'm a Jim Edmonds collector...he has a 60 total WAR and was dropped off the ballot his first time on. I guess my PC player isn't worth a damn.
Me: collecting Luis Garcia Nats and Victor Robles.
While I’m pretty certain Robles will no longer attain any kind of future value, I still think Luis Garcia is worth giving a chance since he is still only 23.
You jinxed Ootanee maaannnnn! Thanks to you I am about to lose millions!!!!!
I seem to gravitate towards players that no one else in their right mind would collect, lol... Trent Grisham, Franmil Reyes, Patrick Wisdom... I mean... why? Why do I do that?
...If it makes you feel any better, i PC JBJ, Boof Bonsor, and Wes Gardner🤣🤣🙄😬
Thanks boss.
Bonds is so undervalued...
I agree. While he's one of the most controversial case in all of MLB history, he's also one of the greatest to play yhe game and I put him up there with Ruth and Aaron. Call me crazy, but I think he could've broke the homerun record without the steroids.
@@vintagecollector5340I’d rather invest in a sex-offender than a drug-abuser
@@GabrielAlcala956 That's your prerogative.
Sounds like you have a lot of Wander Franco..so sorry@@GabrielAlcala956
If the hobby really existed in 1955,would collectors have gone gaga over Karl Spooner?
He broke in with 2 shutouts in '54,striking out 27.
As it is,Dean's Cards is asking $205 for his rookie card.
What would it have been had he not gotten hurt?
Well done
If you’re a collector/investor or just an investor SURE FIRE HOFers are the only way too go…example Harold Baines RCs horrible but Hank Aaron best of best…more modern Scott Rolen horrible Mike Trout and Ichiro…golden…
If you’re just a collector anything goes…
Well troy played for a bad team for most of his career. That has a big impact on value and HOF.
Kyle Tucker!!
My pc is Dustin Pedroia.
I love collecting cards that lose value. It builds character. 😂
Cheers
Jabs is a breaker not an invester
@@Susbus69 that one way of personifying the shift in mentality in sports cards but one would be a moron if we buy sports cards and don’t foresee a payoff in the future mate
@@marroyo372 I mean I think he’s fine cuz he sells the packs and makes a profit off of it
@@Susbus69and disgusting as well
@@fishepa I enjoy watching him cuz I couldn’t afford 1/1000th of the cards he buys
Sad to see Ohtani getting hurt. Part of the reason I don’t like spending big money on guys unless they are sure fire HOFers
Sonny Gray is my Billy Butler. Evan Longoria is another I like to collect for fun.
Luis Arreaz on anyones radar? dude has been crushing since 2019
Before you spend over 100 dollars on one card just think of these names. Aristides Aquino Yermin Mercedes Austin Meadows and of course Wander Franco. All of them players had at one time their rookie or 1st Bowman card over 100 dollars. Franco is the only one that is still in the league but maybe not for long.
Ohtani will still hit DINGERS. His pitching is on pause but will still keep hitting.
Definitely not as good as he's been hitting. They can also shut him down
@@gamerzeject He’s currently the HR leader. He won’t let that get away. It’s Ohtani. Hope he breaks Judges record although I know it’s impossible at this point.
@@IeldudeI I hope you're right, but the odds are against it.
This is the sad fact of the hobby; most of these cards will be worthless, topps knows this, which is why I've always been an advocate for them to lower the price of boxes, today especially when you hand them 200 dollars a box, and get 15 dollars worth of cards inside
Topps knows that no matter what, their product will continue to sell, so why bother shooting themeselves in the foot
@datass666 that's the messed up part about this whole thing, and fanatics greed is making it even worse
It 100% is... I wouldnt be suprised if Fanatics just saturates the market until it implodes, takes the money and walks away@@SmackyThaFrog24
People and collect however they want, but if you're collecting anything but vintage for long term vaule, you deserve what you get. I just collect who and what i like. I dont care about value
Boegarts is not an HOFer in my opinion but a real good player for sure.
Not always about money
Yep, I collect junk, and I love it
Each year there are only 1-3 HOF RCs in each Sport. 😂⚾️🏀🏈🤓
I think any good player's cards will sell but some of them will lose value.
Let's guess how many Tommy John surgeries Ohtani will have. I definitely feel like only 1% of players prospected on in the last six or seven years will pay off.
He should get one more if he wants to make big bucks in the offseason at most if he doesn’t is 400 mil or the owners would be stupid
So far he’s had 2
Yeah he couldn't have picked a worse time to get hurt with his MVP race and contract negotiations coming up. I think he'll be forced to pick pitching or hitting.
@@custum18I’ve been saying it since 2021 that he’s gonna have to do that
The angels over used him for a pointless cause should have traded him
Agree. With likely a record breaking contract incoming he's a massive gamble for any team. They'll protect him like he's made of glass.
I actually think Bobby Abreu has a good chance to get in.
The majority of my cards are $10 cards.
Collect hockey if you want these type of players to be worth something.
Mookie Butts for MVP!
starting to go that way vintage in demand cards will always hold value ie intrinsic value // modern have none period and fanatics bout to overprint and overprice EVERYTHING with shitty QC and awful customer service and crappier quality of cards overall
Nolan Arenado to me is one guy who feels like hes a future HOFer but time will tell.
If Rolen got in, I don’t think there is any way Nolan Arenado doesn’t get in…
Um no a player who played for 4 teams is not a career 1 team player
