I love this game. My best point for the game is the variety and multiple ways of planning your strategy as a factor of what turns up in the board and cards. My low point are the end game triggers, that actually can vary from less than 30 minutes to two hours. At times, we were avoiding meeting an end condition that was just too easy or short, just to prolong the experience.
To avoid the randomness of time length, my gamegroup decided to accomplish two end game condition instead of one, it's been such good choise for the experience and strategy.
I can say that when this first came out back in 2018 and I saw it in the FLGS just from looking at the box and not knowing anything about the game I brought it. Oh and back on March 18th and I was back in that FLGS and sitting there in the area for new stuff was Archive of the Ancients along with the playmat and both new expansions I also got those. Orange Nebula does not put out a lot of games (only two with Spirit Fire coming this year) but they do a great job with the games. Yes it is a Cube pusher (which could be almost considered a work placement) but there is so much that is happening in the game and depending on that starting companion or the areas that you reveal as you move can change the game for you. Yes the game can end very quickly due to those triggers but the there are ways to ensure a longer game; you can only draw one at the beginning or push out the trigger sitting at 25 out to 100. Now I think that if you are using two of the same tiles that they probably should not be placed next to each other but that is a bit harder to do since they might be the last two tiles revealed.
Vindication is awesome and yes, the end game triggers are sometimes bad. Had a 2 player game where the other player got card that let him get 5 cubes into conviction so he took fast control of different map tiles leading the game to end after only 20mins......that can be houseruled easily and other than that this is just perfection! 😁
I finally received my copy of Archive of the Ancient and had a mixed experience ... we loved the game because it gave us a strong reminiscence of the magic of the gathering... we played religiously 25 years ago ... but depending on settings, modules, and tiles you pick for your game you may end up having either fantastic or terrible gaming experience... My advice to anyone new to this game is not to give up on it after your first play, give it a chance and experiment with settings and modules ... remove problematic tiles and modules till you find those that work for you ... there were tiles my gaming group hated: for example, once players get companions to generate attributes, they park near one of such tiles that may generate points and do nothing else for the rest of the game ... for example ... The Fear gauntlet lets you roll your attribute dice and then score 9 points if you roll 5 of them ... as result through the entire game we had 2 players just sitting/ moving 1 space back and forth around that one tile rolling attribute dice and doing absolutely nothing else ... the rest of the map literally did not need to exist for them, the entire map might as well be just that one tile ... The trinkets shop seems to do the same for some players.... they think why not just sit next to it and keep buying loot items, with each you score 2 points... its easier than trying to control the area for the same amount of points and wasting time moving around... as result, Vindication may be a very bad experience ... but once you remove these tiles and force players to think strategically, and work for their points rather than use a lazy tile strategy... Vindication becomes an amazing game!
Yes the price could be a minor issue since with everything it can be close to $300. But I think that availability might be a bigger issue since Orange Nebula isn't in the mass production market and go with Kickstarter/Gamefound and many individuals stay away from these. I was lucky that I have a great FLGS that had the game with it expansion back in 2018 and recently got Archive of the Ancients, Playmat and the two new expansions. It is a beautiful game with many different ways to win, but you need to get focus on just a few ways since if you try to do everything you are not going to do well.
Ummm guys ,i don't know about this strict 10 minute restriction.First off it kinda gives me anxienty, secondly just when the conversation gets interesting, you cut it off?Wtf? The youtube algorithm isn't going to subscribe to the channel.Normal people who want to watch a normal video from start to finish, will.
Finally getting my fully loaded archive of the ancients today. So stoked for this game

@@QuackCo Gotta echo what Javier said. Subscribed.
Whoa, that was a fast intro. I considered stopping when you said "point salad Eurogame". I'm glad I kept going.
Glad to see you treat my #1 game nicely...
More on the way!
Have yet to play vindication but it is on my wishlist!
It is lovely!

I dont understand why this game isnt rated higher on BBG. Could it be the price?
To be clear, it's rated well, it's ranked a bit lower. That means fewer people rated it, which could be a factor of price.
@@QuackCo okay, maybe i should ve said listed instead of rated. Cause this game is awesome!

An excellent game, but end game conditions are far too easy to trigger.
