- When Megamind's former villain team the Doom Syndicate returns, the newly crowned blue hero must keep up evil appearances until he can assemble his friends (Roxanne, Chum and Keiko) to stop his old teammates from launching Metro City to the moon.
That's the movie. It feels like a machine spit out a potential story idea and they couldn't even be bothered to hire any of the original cast, production team, all of it. Watch for yourself just how bad it is.

I was super surprised to find out that the two writers of Megamind 2 are the same as the original. Those being Alan Schoolcraft and Brent Simons, they who also worked as executive producers on the second film (definitely didn’t feel like it when I watched the film tho)

I never really liked Kung Fu Panda, mostly cause I find Jack Black and his typecasting annoying as hell. HTTYD is a classic though. Idk how I forgot about it.

@@Decepticantbecause it’s better if you enjoy dark storylines, but if you like comedy than KFP1 is better. The reason KFP3 isn’t as dark is because reviews complained on KFP2 that it was too dark to watch with their children, so it’s definitely a good movie if you do enjoy those dark storylines.

It certainly wasn’t uncommon to do a direct-to-video movie sequel right before launching a tie-in tv show, but the wait in-between is what blows my mind. Calling a character “Minion” isn’t even copyright. It’s a proper noun. That’s his OFFICIAL name.
While the characters, “THE minions,” is a title. They each have individual names but “the minions” itself is a title (indicated by the article), not a proper noun used to refer to an individual person.
That’s like saying Apple Jack from MLP is a copy right of Apple, like, the phone company. Or vise versa.

Kung fu panda, Monsters vs Aliens, and the Penguins from Madagascar series were funny, animation lacked, but the gags paid up for the low budget animation.

Wanna know what’s really sad? The voice actors are really good at what they do besides this. Keith Ferguson voiced Lord Hater, Bowlboy, and even REAPER from Overwatch. (funnily enough, he also replaces Owen Wilson as Lightning McQueen in some of the video games)
And the Minion, I mean, 😩OL’ CHUM, voice actor also voiced Mark Beaks in the 2017 Ducktales reboot, and he was SO FUNNY! Not even Sonic (Roger Craig Smith) was safe…

I think minions name was changed to old chum because if someone was to search up "minion" the illumination charcters would show up, so dreamworks changed his name so it wouldn't have to compete the minions in searches.
I just thought they changed his name to Chum because he's not a minion for an evil villain anymore, he's a good friend of the hero

To quote a comment I saw relating to the original writers working on this:
"It could be possible that a lot of the great stuff from the original wasn't scripted but instead ad-libbed. A lot of Megamind's lines especially strike me as stuff Will Ferrell probably came up with himself.
Could also be possible the original's deeper themes and messages were completely accidental and coincidental. As in, the writers only ever intended it to be "haha funny superhero movie but bad guy becomes good guy, villain is nice guy" and the depth just came to be by happenstance. Fun fact, the Doom Syndicate was intended for the first movie but were cut. They were in one of the game tie-ins.
A lot of issues with this new one could very well be corporate meddling and time crunch, but the presence of the original writers and absence of any of the original movie's charm is definitely suspect. The animation is definitely "DreamWorks giving it to the TV animation studio to save money" and "Peacock begged for a show". But the writing should at least have some good jokes if the original writers had the skill to make them. Definitely raises some eyebrows."

Years ago, I had a dream of how the "Megamind" sequel would be:
-It started in the Christmas holiday season. Everyone was happy, Megamind and Roxanne were in a shoping helping the crew with decorations and whatnot, there were kids around, happy to see Megamind, some of them were probably the couple's own children... And then the scene would cut to the town's other side, where some police officers were patrolling, spotting suspicious activity.
Unfortunately, the dream ended there. I don't know what else might have been in store.
To add one more baffling thing: Megamind's ace in this movie was a brainbot with wings, like they couldn't already fly without those.

Appearantly, two of the original writers from the first movie and the short returned for this "sequel" and "series".
I like that the villain's plan kinda copies a plot point from Despicable Me 3 of all things, where the villain also wanted to send part of a city into space. Speaking of Despicable Me, I'm guessing they changed the name of Minion not because of Universal intervening but because Dreamworks thought kids would get him confused with the Despicable Me Minions. It's also ironic that they managed to get Will Ferrel for Despicable Me 4 but couldn't get him back for Megamind 2. Really says a lot.

At 3:42 his minion has very human body language, but he lived his whole life as a fish in tank controling artificial body. This means theese are not his normal reactions, he learned what other humans do and every time makes concious decision to make his body "react" how human body does.

Fun fact, the director of the new Megamind movie has never produced a single notable piece of film in his entire life. How he happened upon megamind is most definitely an affront to god.
All they had to do was have the second movie be about metroman wanting his old job back after getting bored as a musician. Basically have them compete in a bunch of games to decide who should be the protector of metro city and then have them team up to stop some kind of disaster like a metior or something about to hit the city. Then have a fragment of that meteor be shown to have been a pod and bam you could even make a third movie if you want to with the alien from that pod as the main antagonist of the third movie.
If they had done this along with getting the voice actors and original crew who wrote the script back then this movie would have been just as good if not better than the first movie.
that goes against literally the entire point of his character in the first movie...
@@Ryan41707 Not necessarily, sometimes artists (such as musicians) fall back on their dreams due to self doubt. They could have that be apart of the main story too having megamind help him recapture his love of music and even add PRESENTATION! to his concerts.
The Minions (a species) have actual names, like Bob, we love Bob. The fish's NAME...was Minion. BIG difference.

ok so the way i remember the megamind ending megamind and roxane were 100% not together, he lied to her and betrayed her trust they are not together, but they're at a point where going forward its a thing that is possibly going to happen. this thematically has to be how the movie ends to make sense, because you can't end a movie where the main villian's thesis is "i'm the hero duh i deserve the girl" with "and so the girl forgets everything the hero did to her because obviously the hero gets the girl" the whole theme of the story is about how tighten treated roxane like she was the corner office that came with his position as the new metroman, not as an actual person, you can't just give her to megamind in the end like a prize.
I didn't even know that 0% was possible, that is impressive in its own way.
Megamind is my favourite animated movie ever, and it's animation is perfection. Megamind 2 just sucks.
I should point out that the writers of this are the exact same writers from the first movie.
Also, Megamind's voice actor here is Keith Ferguson, a veteran voice actor who has voiced Megamind before in quite a few videogames where they obviously couldn't get Will Ferrel to reprise his role.

Here's something I would have done if I was given the task to make a megamind sequel first things first I would re-watch the original film 2 to 3 different times so I can get a really good grasp on what the concept of megamind is about
Then I would bring in the Doom syndicate into the sequel but give them a new origin story making the megamind video game not canon to the franchise at all which is perfectly fine since nobody really played it or cared about it
Possibly give them new designs to make them more intimidating as villains
And give them a new origin story an origin story that could be as simple as this
One of the members of the Doom syndicate could be a scientist while other folks could be random civilians who happen to have gotten power similar to that of what we see in the actual sequel itself but they actually look interesting
The first try to use their powers to mess with megamind and then they tried to take it a step further of trying to take over the city and possibly the entire world and megamind and his new crew have to stop him
For that girl character who's meant to be a sidekick I do one of two things either write her out of the story entirely or try to make her either be a parody of the sidekick archetype while also making her an interesting character in her own right that makes her worthy of being part of this new team megamind tries to form with her and Roxanne along with minion speaking of him I would also have him keep his name
Another thing I would do is that if I want to make it as a sequel where it expands upon the themes and ideas that the first film did I would take the themes of the first film did and expand on them without contradicting the original themes and characterizations of how the characters were in the first movie (basically not pulling a Toy story 4)
I will expand upon its themes and ideas that the original film had did without making the characters feel out of character or without retreading the same ground
That is probably what I would do if I were to be given the task of making a true megamind sequel it probably won't be perfect but it'll at least be something
Even if I wouldn't have the budget of the first movie to work on a project like this I would at least put some form of care into it as not only a standalone movie but as a true sequel to megamind if I were to be given that task

also btw the VA for megamind vs the doom syndacate acually played megamind in the video games so its not his first rodeo and yes the writters of the first film did write this as well.....film still sucks
