Have you tried the Hyperkin RetroN 5. I found it a great way to play old carts from NES, SNES, Famicom, Genesis GBA all to an HDMI display using original pads. Is there any way I can get a physical version of Tortoises in the UK?
@@johnhancockretro That's a shame that it does not work. The only NES clone hardware that I have seen run an EverDrive is Hyperkin's Retron 1, 2 and 3 (Game Saves, but no Save States or FDS games).
Nice video John, recently I picked up a Neo Geo Pocket Color and was wondering if you have some good recommendations for games I should pick up thank you take care
@ Cool sounds like some good stuff on there, I wish some of the games were cheaper but I guess that’s what happens with a fairly large demand and low supply :(
The form factor of this device seems pretty terrible. I expected it would have at least a 4:3 panel. The Gamestation Retro Go might be a better solution when they release it. Although that does not support original cartridges.
I don't know seems like a strange device, who wants to play their og nes carts? When you can just emulate, and this will have lag anyways, it's not a crt. It's a portable device but not portable with nes carts, but I guess some will find use for it, not me.
Let’s be honest this thing sucks. Can’t use other controllers aside from the one provided… please. And that sound is just awful. Okay idea, poor execution.
Personally, I've been such a sucker for the Japanese import famicom clones made by Columbus Circle so it's interesting to see some thing made for a US market.
Basically, the only alternative (in 2025) is Columbus Circle -delightful to some, disappointing to others. Powkiddy, Anbernic, etc., did not move in this direction. They moved away from it.
Imagine asking for $120 for this garbage, lol. Sound is off, color is off, mandatory proprietary controller that comes seperate, and as a handheld its every bit as clunky and uncomfotable as using an actual tablet. This should be no more than $49.99 at most.
I'll be honest with you bro BGM while your talking and showing me something like an unboxing is unpleasant to digest, it's really too loud, but honestly I would prefer 0 music while your speaking and showing me a physical thing like an unboxing.
As of posting this video, this is on sale for $99.
Looks kinda like a giant 2DS. :D
That's what Gertrude said but then I started taking classes? Id iot

I hadn’t seen or heard anything about this device in a long time. Great video John!
It’s been around for a while but new to me :)
The game music sounds so bad when the game is played, so different!
John Hancock 🎉❤
Handheld time with John Hancock
What a cool-looking device. For $120, I think it's a good deal. So worth it. Thanks for the video, John!
On sale for $99 right now.

@c.vergara570 What do you mean? Are you referring to the Hyperkin? Do you think it's no good? Or are you suggesting dogs shouldn't eat cauliflower?
Oh man, if it doesn't run US Castlevania 3 it's definitely not gonna run Akumajou Denestsu. I am assuming the EverDrives are out.
I mention everdrive compatibility in the video ;)

Cardfighters clash remember is good as well as the samurai showdown game. Metal Slug 1 and 2 for it.

Do you have the Hyperkin NES Portable System FC Mobile II? I wonder which one would be better. There both portable NES.
I’ve had this since day 1 when it was released , wow I beat Hancock
Sound is terrible
The sandbox is too warm
No amount of positivity in the world is going to convince me to buy this thing. $120? It looks like it's from the late 90s, early 2000s.
Yeah but dog spinach in the bunghole times infinity

I suspect that the availability of 16:9 panels is so much easier to acquire, that is why you see that here.
@@johnhancockretro 8" panels (with 1024x768 resolution) are quite easy to find at aliexpress. I wonder if this handheld could be modded to fit one in.
@@johnhancockretro You can get an 8" panel (1024x768 resolution) from various sources. I wonder if this device could be modded to fit one in...
Thanks
You’re welcome!
The music on these games are awesome
Nah dog head cauliflower

Flat dog is upon us though. Tell Amanda
This console is using the same asic that's been around for the past 20+ years. Castlevania III doesn't work and sound is wrong.
Very interesting system for sure!
Is their input lag? I always fight Tyson to gauge whether a bootleg NES device is up to snuff.

It’s a nice way to test out and play with NES cartridges without having to dig out and connect the entire NES.
Could be better, yes.

Best retro TH-camr
This is a great device. . .
The sound on these things are always bad. But for what youre using it for, it'll pass. For the price, it should be more accurate.
