I ran into him years ago when his career was on fire. I’m talking New Jack City years. He hung out and talked to me and a friend of mine, like he knew us for years. He was really down to earth, and generally a nice person. He didn’t seem to let success go to his head. May God continue to Bless Him.🎬

Back in '94 we went to " Unity Day" in Philly. After hanging out all day my dad took my brother and I to the restroom so my Mom wandered off. When we all finally met up and got in the car, she was telling us she ran into a actor but she couldn't remember his name. She was at one of the tents trying to see what they was selling. She was talking to herself what she liked. She didn't realize a guy was standing next to her. And she apologized. They spoke for a few seconds. He was wearing dark shades and had locs. She said his voice sounded very familiar. She said " Wait A minute I know you" I know you are that actor but I don't know your name". He slid down his shades and said " wow! Really? Its like that? I'm an Actor but you don't know my know Name? Joking with her. He told her his name. She said he was very sweet and they shook hands. But she could tell he was wearing a Wig as well trying to be Discreet. Still to this Day I think he is very handsome. I've always had a crush on him.

Jason's Lyric has always been a personal favorite movie of mine too. He was so dreamy in it... I loved him and Jada as the lead characters.

He is legendary to me and has proven this in his staying power. Even when he took time off during his beloved mothers transition, you could see his commitment to family first then everything else. Good brother and we are blessed to have him till this very day.

Allen was a good friend of mine back in the LA in the early 90s. We used to work out together & I helped him get ready for the movie Jason's Lyric. I have to say Allen was the most down to earth celebrity I've ever known. I guess we connected bc we are both Native New Yorkers. I miss my old friend. I pray you're doing well Allen. S/O to comedy Hype/Hype+ for this post on one of the most underrated actors, but one of the most talented actors that came out of the Black Film Movement of the late 80s-mid 90s, Al Payne. His phenomenal portrayal of the loyal but tragic Gerald "Gee Money" Wells in "New Jack City" is forever etched in American cinema. Al was an actor, but he was really about that life. He knew all of the scramblin' dudes in Harlem and the Bronx, and they knew him. Al rode motorcycles with Alpo up and down 8th Avenue between 155th and 116th Street. Rocking the "German" (motorcycle helmet) and popping wheelies along with Alpo. The day before Mario shot the iconic rooftop scene between Nino and Gee Money, me, Al, and Wesley rehearsed the scene at Wesley's brownstone on Washington Avenue in Brooklyn. The next day at Silvercup Studios, between 10pm and 3am in the morning, Al and Wesley Went In. Almost 30 takes. People see Wesley's tear drop, but Al was crying from the first take (known only to those who were on the rooftop of Silvercup Studios, because we saw the reverse angles of Al). Each of Al's takes were richer and deeper than the one before. Al didn't act that role, he breathed it in. I remember at the NY casting for NJC (in the Spring of 1990) when I saw Al in the hallway of SIR Studios on 10th Avenue, I told the late George Jackson, "Yo. That's Gee Money. That kid right there. He even looks like a young Guy Fisher. No need to audition anyone else. We found our Gee Money..."

What a coincidence! Last week I was taking a plane to New York. As I was seated and waiting for the plane to load, in walks Wesley Snipes and sits beside me. We actually got into conversation and he was very pleasant up until I happened to asked “Hey, what ever happened to Alan Payne”. Suddenly his whole expression changed to anger, and he actually yelled at the top of his lungs, “Am I my brothers keeper!” Then all the other passengers yelled in unison, “Yes I am!” Interesting flight.

New Jack City, CB4, Jason’s Lyric, BlueHill Avenue(it was sad & a point of accepting responsibility when Tristan, Money, EBone & Simon started to see that their drug dealing for all those yrs in Boston in the 70’s caused the downfall of their individual families, friends & community by the late 70’s into the early 80’s & later 90’s-00’s), The Perfect Storm(an amazing movie), 1995 The Walking Dead, Vampire In Brooklyn, 1995 The Tuskegee Airmen(His character was Walter Peoples, this is a very slept on WW2 movie), The Cosby Show, A Different World, Malcom & Eddie, The Fresh Prince, ROC(starring Charles S. Dutton), BayWatch, Knight Rider & the list goes on.
He’s made a tv show/movie appearance in movies for every era starting from the 80’s to the 2000’s.
The 1st movie that i ever saw him in was CB4 & I was 7yrs old when I watched that…….
(I had NO business sneaking & watching that on VHS in my room in my VCR)🤦🏾♂️🤦🏾♂️ but I instantly became a fan of his artistry, next was New Jack City at the age of 9.
