@@CyberSpider35 Totally get it! This film was a proof of concept for a longer series or feature film. We really wanted to set up the world and tease out this bizarre cabin in the woods that was bigger on the inside than it was on the outside. Hopefully, we'll get a chance to expand the story soon!

@@dahlia700 horror in short format, right? lots of dissatisfaction can happen. as i watch this one closely though, i start to feel like it doesn't truly waste any of its / our time; the empty dialogue i.e. their guessing at each others' motivations for participating is a clever device i'd argue is likely intentional; it stops the viewer from trying to "outrun the writer" i mean "guess the plot" because there's ostensibly something happening in the foreground as the setup ( weird to call it a setup when we've only time for 3 [ ball, silverware, person ] instances of payoff ) is communicated with visual information. i'd give this another watch. see if you think there's anything to what i'm suggesting -- do let me know what you think if you do, please -- and thanks for your comment regardless. xo -zoe

@@dahlia700 you have such a lovely attitude. it's refreshing to have such an exchange here, & i credit you & i as much as the film. i love-love-love the idea of an escape room. e.g. think of all those films about haunted houses (houses october build, hell fest, need i go on parts 2 & 3 lol) ... obviously, Dahlia, if i may so call you, i appreciate the way you think & the way you express your thoughts. let's say this IS an escape room. we'd have to already deduce (induce, technically) that the pills are either part of character, or part of an underground escape room for people who NEED MORE (what does that have to do with the horror junkies like us that end up watching ALTER shorts!? -- just hoping against hope we'll get lucky enough to find The Study every time!? i pretend to know not) ... what else do we know, and perhaps more importantly: what else could explain the situation so elegantly as your escape room suggestion? could they be (this is almost the same) on a ride at an amusement park!? is it a virtual reality game, wherein every player is at home with a tiny little earpiece in their ear (black mirror episode 0501? whatever black mirror is? ok i love that episode lol) ... i kinda feel you've more ideas than myself, ideas in the same area & maybe way outside of it. thank you so much for responding at all & again if you can more. i'm quite obsessed with this film it seems lol

Sorry, I'm practicing Shakespearean dialogue. I meant the endings of most short horror either p*** me off or I don't understand, like this. Where are they, some black hole?
I agree and I feel like it’s more realistic tbh because even in stressful situations, we (humans lol) are kind of programmed to be polite to strangers for the sake of a good impression, I really liked this short, I thought it was well written
Totally get that! The truth is, we made this on a shoestring budget in only three days. We didn't have enough money to make the full feature film. So this is just an appetizer of what we hope to continue in a feature.
The synopsis states: What happens next leaves the gang scrambling for answers and a way out of the study. Um, that is not what the ending conveys, the ending merely conveys something is amiss with the law of physics. That is all we get. This is a great beginning to what could be a mini series or a movie. I liked it. It leaves it open for more mystery, but doesn't give away too much detail.
yeah id watch this on netflix or some other thing. funny how shudder never picks up this alter stuff, but they'll put on some old movie from the 60s xD

It was like watching the beginning of what could be a really fantastic full length movie. In fact I yelled out "No!" when it ended, as I just wanted to see more. 💯% ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
This one was interesting and definitely left me wanting more. I hope that the idea gets a shot at a full feature. The production was of very high quality. The aerial shot fading into the title card was well done. The close-up of the record needle looked good. The characters were set up with personality and you want to know what happens even if one of them is a possible researcher. The story plays with the cabin in the woods trope and using the racquetball was an interesting setup. The music was perfect for the setting and contributed to the professional feel. The title was good as you have the experiment study itself and the characters having to study each other just like the viewer is having to do. The challenge with a work like this is there are unanswered questions. This does not bother me too much as for me it is a successful tease for something bigger. Here to further success. Thanks to Will Bakke and his cast and crew for delivering an entertaining work that deserves to continue. Peace. Sincerely Robert.

They’re just testing the waters… the writer/director wants to know what the audience thought, and if it’s worth expanding on. It’s like a teaser… I personally would love to see more. However, I definitely think strange cabin in the middle of the woods with some dimensional anomaly, has been overdone. If they’re going to go down that road, they better have a really good twist at the end to make it come together in an unexpected way. Loved it!

Here's my theory - the cabin is kind of a vessel that allows you to traverse through a negative plane of existence. For every person, this plane of existence is different. Since all the subjects (except Emily) took the pills, their personal versions of this negative plane clashed with one another and produced random effects. If only one of them took a pill, this negative plane would be more stable, producing predictable results. The scientists wanted to study the unpredictability that the merging of multiple negative planes would do, hence the experiment. The guy who is here for the 11th time has not witnessed these random effects before, since then only one of the test subjects was given pills, while the others crunched placebos. This was the first time they were all given the real pills. This should be VERY interesting!
Imo the pills were likely just a way for the scientists to get these kids to this location willingly whilst probably signing waivers to the event. The girl said she didn't take hers meaning all these events are happening to them all in the same way. They aren't tripping etc is what It seems to lead you to assume.
Brilliant! Or perhaps the guy who was shot into the abyss, hasn't been on 11 experiments and is, in fact, a researcher ensuring the ball is thrown in the right spot at the right time and convincing the others he has gone missing??

This was really good, but it felt like half of it was missing. I totally get leaving questions unanswered and having ambiguity, and open endings are great - but this literally felt like the ending was randomly cut out by accident. There is a huge difference between leaving an open ending for a sequel and how this felt, it was just such an unsatisfying abrupt way to end. If the intent was to stylize it this way I feel like it should've at least given us a little bit more...
One of the best looking shorts on here, I was getting really invested. Seriously gorgeous. I join the calls for more of this asap! So far I'm getting 'Cube' vibes mixed with 'Cabin in the Woods'. Very intrigued 🙂

true but I have to say you made me think about another thing I wanted to say. Even though these were cliche personality types I thought they were delivered better and then when they did the thing with the one guy calling out all the other cliches I thought that added a really nice sense of irony. The cliche that got me was they killed off one of my two favourite characters right away.
ALTER, you and DUST do this thing where you post these great *short* films and its such a tease because I'd love nothing more than to see the majority of what you post expanded into either a feature length film or a series. This is film is one of them, I think it'd make an intriguing movie.

Smart writing, mentioning the "we fall asleep" part right after the pills so that the viewer does not connect the sudden change of atmosphere to the pills

That sums it up very well. They're an engaging group of characters, and I'd have liked to see more of what's happening and what they go through.

I've been in a bad place lately...Alter definitely knows how to get me back to myself with AMAZING short films!

ALTER, you and DUST do this thing where you post these great *short* films and its such a tease because I'd love nothing more than to see the majority of what you post expanded into either a feature length film or a series. This is film is one of them, I think it'd make an intriguing movie.

Smart writing, mentioning the "we fall asleep" part right after the pills so that the viewer does not connect the sudden change of atmosphere to the pills
