    I purchased an 80D a few months ago, the new 77D looks like it could have made my decision harder if it were out at the time. However I think the weather sealing (I am unaware how great it is) is what would still steer me to the 80D. I do love it.

    Do you think Canon will lower the price of the 80D now? I'm confused why the 77D w/ 18-135mm kit lens and 80D w/ 18-135mm kit lens are exactly the same price right now.

    When I heard about the different user interface I nearly had a stroke, Canon's menus are probably the best in the market. It looks like it's mostly an aesthetic change though, so I guess that's fine xD

      Random Ibis it still has the usual interface. You can configure the UI in the settings. Canon added the new interface to make it easier for beginners to start out on dslr photography.

      51.200vs 25.600 iso
      AF Pnts : 45 vs 19 thats 26 more focus points
      6.0 fps vs 5.0fps video
      Battery Life 600 shots vs 440 shots
      Weight 540 g vs 565 g

    i shoot canon......getting pretty sick of them banking features in fear of sabotaging there higher range cams.....sony are going balls deep against everyone, 4k recording in even there lower class cams.....i mean my dam phone can manage 4k and 1080 slow mo, but my £1000 canon....1080 30fps
    if they dont trickle down decent features by my next due update....bye bye canon hello sony.
    canon clearly cant keep up, if they give decent resolutions to say a mid-range 80d they will instantly make a mid class cam out spec higher class cams and video cams so the lower end stuff ends up stuck in the past.
    personally i think canon need a slim down on their product line. entry, enthusiast, and professional product lines is all thats needed......and the new 77d???? wtf is that....an entry level cam marketed as a enthusiast level cam......it used to be simple 1000 series: beginner, 100 series: entry level, 10 series enthusiast, 1 series: professional......now trying to fob off cheap recycled parts as a semi professional cam with the 77d.....they are going backwards, they used to make badass solid, metal body workhorses for even the midrange stuff but now its just getting cheap plastic designs with only the higher end gear being built to last.
    after all that said i do love my canon.....thats why i just wish soooo bad they would pull their thumbs out and fire back at sony with some badass up to date cams....maybe one day.

      It is if you want to get the most out of a crop sensor that is already 10% smaller than the competition. This is supposed to be Canon's enthusiast/professional line of camera bodies. They're going backwards rather than forwards, and pushing loyal customers towards mirror-less brands.

    • @tamasvarga67
      @tamasvarga67 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think most of the people have no clue about it and just don't bother... This is a lower level camera and the target audience will be happy with the 24MP sensor, 45 AF points, DPAF and the rest. For $200 more you can get the 80D with pentaprism.

    • @patrickfitzgerald2861
      @patrickfitzgerald2861 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree, so it really belongs in with the "Rebel" products, not the **D lineup, and at $899 it's over-priced as well.

    • @tamasvarga67
      @tamasvarga67 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes it's more of a Rebel than a x0D (it should have been called T7s) but the price will come down soon I think. Many things are overpriced these days...

    Canon, improve dynamic range, bring in body stabilisation, 4k in full frame, not fucking 1.8x crop, and so most of all, start to replace the lenses that are almost 30 years old like 50 1.4, 85 1.8, and so on. Stop reshelling old cameras and calling them new. That's not how you get back in the game. One word : Sony

    • @dropyvisuals4355
      @dropyvisuals4355 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Brandon Wu oh i see, i just thought todays crops sensors can perform on par up to atleast ISO 3200.
      Thanks for the information, since the 6D is pretty close when it comes to price in My area, I'm gonna go for the 6D for ISO performance.

    • @brandonwu765
      @brandonwu765 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Idk it depends what you define as usable
      My friend with his 6D says he tries not go past 3200 with it
      But if low light performance is your thing, then the 6D might be the better option.
      Wait the 6D is around 1-1.1k for me, while the 80D is 850ish. How much do you plan on buying the 6D for?

    • @dropyvisuals4355
      @dropyvisuals4355 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      In My area it's a 100-150$-ish difference compared to the 80D, I think the 6D is getting cheaper because of its age, but the low light is just good as I tested it in the store.
      But i think that the new generation releases are more fast in AF. But I need both aspects, the 5D's are out of My budget tho.

    The EOS "77D" is for real a EOS 770D or 780D....in Canons Name Scheme. No Weathersealing, no 100% OVF, and especially not a bright, big Glass Pentaprism Viewfinder, but a smaller & dim Pentamirror OVF with about the same Eyepoint and View like the 760D.
    I do own the EOS 10D up to 50D, but since the 60D, no more alu-magnesium alloy build quality - only onto the 7D/II & 5D Series nowadays, it's a shame. It was too expensive for Canon to produce this very sturdy Body. And DR still lacks behind the Nikon/Pentax & Sony Competition, but the 80D is at least better then all their predecessors.
    Bottom Line: If one does really need the 24 MP, i'd get the 80D, not the 77D, even the 77D got a upgraded Digic, but that'll lead to more sophisticated JPEG processing mostly (only). With RAW, there should be no difference.

    Isn't dual pixel purely a function of the live view and not related to the 45 pt AF system?
    I mean the dual pixel on the sensor contribute to the snappy AF in live view only and not while using OVF.
    The 45 point phase detect system is only used in OVF mode where the sensor is covered by the mirror, hence no question of dual pixel coming into picture.
    Also in Dual pixel possibly every pixel turns into a phase detect point, so it cannot be 45 points.
    Correct me in case I'm wrong anywhere.

    hmm dual pixel af is used in lv and video, the 45 cross type af are on the af sensor when used without lv... The dual pixel af has much more points than 45 even in the 70d (because its every pixel on the actual sensor that could be used for af in dual pixel af mode...). Does the 77d now have the af sensor (under the mirror) from the 80d?

    That camera has no business being this expensive for the outdated features it's offering.
    I'm not even mad about the 4k. But the fact that they don't offer video features like a flat picture profile for better colour grading, focus peaking, zebra, and other things like that is what angers me.

    Buy a Pentax K5 used for $200 and get magnesium weather sealed body, in camera image stabilization, AF button on back, LCD on top and 7fps. Basically a 7DMI except better. Don't waste your money on Canon's "new" camera that is not as good as used 5 year old bodies. Used K5 with a new Tamron 17-50 2.8 is still less than 1/2 the price of this.

    Will the picture quality on the 77D be the same or better (Digic7 v Digic6) than the 80D?

    • @1barnet1
      @1barnet1 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, there has been no difference to the Eos M5 and the 80d.
      So there won't be here.
      It does have some M5 related features that the 80d lacks.
      Such as the electronic stabilisation for video.

      I don't think it's that useful here. It has a Fully articulating touchscreen.
      Normally we'd use it when mounted on a tripod. But with dual pixel and the beautiful Touchscreen it makes much more sense just to flip the screen out.
      It allows more precise framing, more precise autofocus/manual focus then the rather lackluster OVF. (in this particular case)

    • @AcidTripwire
      @AcidTripwire 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      1barnet1 The whole point of the LCD is so that you don't have to use the screen. Therefore the battery can last for days or even weeks. When the screen is turned off, a DSLR uses essentially no power.

    • @AcidTripwire
      @AcidTripwire 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      1barnet1 I also personally find the top LCD very useful for checking and changing settings at a glance as I move around and lighting changes.
