I’ve had a GZRW 12” for a like 4 years now. It’s not my daily but was for a solid year. Awesome sub. Takes serious abuse. Doesn’t look very special but definitely is. Comparable to a Sundown SAv2

I was thinking the same thing that looks like more than 11 mm one way

2 of them I’ll predict a 149 sharp. In a good enclosure that is...

B I no you specialize in building boxes. Do you build baffles for rear decks of cars if the rear deal is big enough? I'm thinking 4 8s in the rear deck of my Cadillac brougham.

That’s an easy car to do what you’re thinking but do it right.. you can fully remove the rear deck and put a box in its place..
MBE doesn’t do this type of stuff.. this is a hands on-site deal not build a box and ship it thing..
What you’re talking about is a free air baffle setup.. that’s hard and labor intensive to do right. The easier way to do it is build a box under the m deck basically replacing it.. I understand what you’re trying to do which is not take up trunk space while using the trunk as the box from the cabin area.
The best way to do this would be build a narrow but tall box that slides just under the rear deck and takes up little trunk space in return. With 4 8’s you might have to go to ones that like bigger boxes to do this right otherwise the box would fall short of sitting on the floor in the trunk.. I’ve seen this done many times with 2 15’s tbh.. takes up a little more space in the trunk but overall factory like finish is better..
Been 20 or so years since I seen a setup like this.. 15 or more since I seen the trunk layout of this car.. anyone building you a box for this is gonna need to know the height from floor to deck, the distance from seat back to rear of the deck. And the width of the trunk opening..
The box would have to be built short to fit in the trunk and covers added to the sides to fill in the gaps to make it look factory.
I pray you don’t already have the speakers cause this is a build the box first and then buy the subs that work within this box parameters after type thing.
You’d have to give up min 10” from rear seats to back of trunk in space for 8’s.. I think 2x 15’s or maybe 3x 12’s would my work better otherwise you’d likely have to brace the underside of the box up off the floor with brackets.
If I understand what you’re trying to do you’d be looking at 10” deep by whatever the trunk lid width is.. I’ll go off day 42” for now.. so you’re 10x42x height guessing here but gonna say 18” from floor to deck which is pretty common across all cars could be as much as 22”.. you’re looking at 4-5cf gross..
Actually smaller then I first thought just about any decent 8’s would work in this after port and displacement.
The box would have to be shimmer up tight to the rear deck.. trim the deck for the speaker holes and port hole.. then mount the speakers through the deck into the box. Filler pieces would have to be made to flush out the box with the deck, sides of the trunk and the floor so it basically becomes a false wall in a sense.. you’ll lose 10” of trunk depth though.. this is the single best way to do this imop cs trying to go full free air baffle.
Also my 10” is inside box dimensions to have proper mounting surface for an 8” driver.. outside would measure closer to 12” of depth lost in the trunk.
No matter though this is going to be like a 3k install and you’ll be wo the vehicle for about a week. Finding someone in your area who’s 1) able to do this properly 2) is actually able to do it cleanly is not going to be easy unless you’re in a massive city with lots of custom builders.
Even then I’m not sure back glass clearance to deck if there is even room to install the screws to mount the subs..
You’ve gone from custom box building to an entirely different level with something like this.
I went to Hs in late 99’s with a kid who had same car in that old school gold color who was rocking 2 15” PPI off a soundstream amp and it was done exactly like this only the box being 15’s took up the entire trunk but were fired up through the rear deck and it was super clean.
You trying to go free air baffle and with 8’s tell me you don’t want to give up the trunk space..
But to do this right and have it sound like you want or expect it took.. you’re gonna have to either give up 12” for 8’s or 8” for 6’s mounted like this. And really since it seems the design within the car is more important then you won’t even know what subs you can or can’t use until it’s built. In a good note the side cover pieces should completely hide the amp and all wiring and the box itself making it look 100% factory inside the trunk and you’ll be able to use the trunk normally wo fear of hitting anything important.
But seriously you’re non 3k starting price maybe as high as 5k to anyone with the ability to actually do this and make the box right as well as finish it off and make it look car show clean and factory

Does it come with a trim ring? Seems to free air ok, but looks like it’s meant for inverted mount.

@@Chuck_SandersYea cheap gasket but it’s on top of the sub. Maybe you can put it underneath or I’m lookn at it wrong.
