It's a joy to watch this fella demonstrating his art. IT beats all the talking in the world. Other people need to learn the art of teaching like this man. Teaching is showing it being done Maths teachers should learn this technique instead of chalking formulas on a blackboard confusing us all. Dont talk about it show us what your talking about so we can all watch and learn something.Well done mate your really inspiring

I took a carving class from Master Animal Carver Midge Schmitgen and I was using a small detail brush to paint some fur on a Tiger. She said I was going to be there forever. She pushed a huge brush in my hand and said paint it like you were painting a barn. It came out amazing. Sometimes detail is just a time waster and you gotta just get er done. Your no nonsense, here is how I do it, wrong or right, no apologies attitude is awesome! That's how every artist should be. Great work

Didn’t read comments for the answer to your question?
    Was it Sasquatch? Jk 😆
Sounded like metal on metal, maybe train tracks? Something a horse knocked down that slid down metal siding?
Was scrolling through to see if I missed any videos durning the summer when I’m busy with work, and found this one. I so needed this, I want to be able to do feathers, I have a couple birds coming up, and I need to get to practicing. I did however make a single standing 3’ feather, like Chainsaw Chad makes.

New at this in June, way too much time on my hands.
I lucked out by NOT being hard on myself...Bear #1 SCARY..fish #1 many compliments one it's SIMPLICITY. .....each different carving got/& still gets better.....have I come a long way ...yes ( thanks to the awesome encouraging YT carver masters suggestions ) but its still a " Long and windy road ".. .today 3.75 months later , an acreage owner took a chance on my " potential " ,and I've just completed Bear& bald eagle Driveway entrance Posts.....only stipulation I had to be happy with them when I reached the limits of my " ABILITY ".......
    BEST SHIT I'VE MADE
TO DATE & 6 Ft in the air.
Best customer in the world....not pressure, no expectations. ...try and wipe the SMILE off my face...NFC.
Ryan oh wise one please keep stressing the fact..,enjoy whatever you make......the process is just as much enjoyment as the final product .
    Please send wood !!!!!!

It will look like a baby owl sitting in a nest with multiple wood spirit faces stacked down the cane shaft. So far its looking good.

Hi, love your work, I'm an artist my self, like to play with metal and wood, but never tryed wood carving. Have a pine tree that I want to cut down, but leave about 2,5 meter of it to make a owl on top, and 2 wood spirits under. Its that ok to leave it on the root like that? It will be a nice view for people passing on the road 😊

Ryan, this is a great video. I appreciate you taking the time to do this.
I think it'd be amazing to see you really slow things down and explain everything for the absolute beginner. I have watched a few of your tutorials and enjoyed them, but I have noticed they can move a little quick. Not so much in this video, but in others you explain the entire process and then tape yourself doing it entirely. It would be great if you slowed it down to an almost painfully slow video to teach the absolute beginners, like myself. The more detail you can supply for each moment in the carving, the more we learn. Assume we know absolutely nothing, especially on videos for beginners. Explain a step or what you are about to do, then show yourself doing it in real time.
If you're videos get lengthy, break up the series and place them in a playlist. You could have playlist for a lot of animals or different carvings. The plus side of doing this is you can refer people back to these videos and not have to answer the same questions 600 times.
I also understand you are working for a paycheck too, and may not have all the time in the world to do that.. so it's ok. I've been enjoying your channel, so please don't think I'm trying to tell you what to do. Just a suggestion from a fan.
    Keep up the great work!

    • @RyanCookCarvin
      @RyanCookCarvin  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Thanks I’ve thought that. I’ve been struggling with that cause I found that if they drag on they some people click off. I’m gonna do a membership thing soon.
And I’m gonna do long form videos and also even private lessons too. I’m literally trying to learn this all at rapid pace as thing are kinda exploding. And I’m trying to balance carving , filming , editing , and being a good dad.
So I’ll try to come up with something that will work for you and others who have asked. It’s a good idea to do multiple vids.
I’m now done my small owls and bears and moving into big winter commissions for the next few months. So there will be some real coool big carving vids broken up.

      As a new carver myself...might I suggest " any thing "
      I know....sounds dumb and unhelpful.
      BUT
as long as its meaningful to you and you try your best......hopefully someone else says " hey that'd a ??????? " .......that in itself should be all you need.
Key thing to remember........its your 1st i stress that you keep it or atleast know who has it......( on # 10 you'll u derstand )........somedays its a 1/2 a step back.....tomorrow its 2 steps forward ( that might mean level eyes and nose holes )...... everyone that you do is different......and youre doing it " the best of your ability " is what matters the most. The o ly persons approval that matters is yours .....
Oh.....you will always see a part that needs work...ALWAYS
SO work on that on the next one
      Or Fick it
      Try something else.

Hey Ryan! It might sound lame but I'm kinda being held up on how to finish out the base of the carving...do you think you can do a quick lesson on that subject? I carved an awesome eagle and the base just isn't doing it justice!!
