What's happening in Ireland is that the government wants the population to increase from 5 million to 10 million by 2050 for the purpose of growth and to make infrastructure projects viable. The problem is that the birthrate is only 1.6 which is unsustainable and successive government policies have discouraged or made it impossible for people to start a family. Their solution is to import young adults who can immediately enter the workforce and therefore lessen the burden of child rearing on the state and business productivity. It's an economic decision that will do untold social damage.

I’m less convinced by the ‘false prophets’ statement. As Catholics we are obliged to be obedient to the Pope. Does he utter statements that are questionable? Yes he does but unless something is scripturally inaccurate, we must be obedient. The current tribulation in Ireland is as a result of us, as a nation, voting in abortion and we also have gay marriage. The significance being that when you evict God from a society, and that is exactly what we’ve done in above referendums, someone else moves in to take up residence. We are reaping what we have sowed.
