This cover of the Wailers that Eric did brought Bob Marley to the attention of a lot more people around the world. Jamaica was a previous British colony with ties to England so Reggae reached England and Eric covered this and the world took notice.
This is true, there’s an interview with Marley where he says that because of Eric he became famous overnight. Eric brought not only the blues but reggae to the light to people who never heard it.
I totally agree. The bass was excellent. This is one of the best Clapton performances I've seen, guitar and vocally. As many drugs as Clapton did in his younger days, it's a wonder that his career has been so long and so excellent.
I do feel lucky to have been turned on to Clapton at an early age, which of course turned me on to Marley, JJ Cale and numerous blues greats. After all these years i still listen to all of it. Great music easily stands the test of time.
I was 13 in 1970 and have very diverse taste, including blues! I saw Clapton in 78? Slow Hand Tour. Been to many concerts. Live music is my oxygen lol I've seen Johnny Winter, Muddy Waters, Bonnie Raitt, Little Feat and Stanley Clarke to name a few.. .. I'm more of a rock chick too Just love great music ❤
This song came out in 1973 and I remember it well because it was this song that put Eric Clapton on my radar oh boy I had to hear more of this amazing artist!! He is considered one of the best guitar players of all time.
Killer guitar solo! Eric Clapton scored a hit with "I Shot The Sheriff" in 1974. I remember one of my older cousins goofing around singing the chorus one summer back then. We had no idea at the time who Bob Marley was much less that reggae music existed. We were kids afterall. That was before The Police, but after Paul Simon and Led Zeppelin infused reggae into a couple of their songs and Johnny Nash took "I Can See Clearly Now" to number one. I figured out who Bob Marley was by the time Blondie took "Tide Is High" to number one half a decade or so later.
I Shot the Sheriff" by Jamaican reggae musician Bob Marley and released in 1973. Clapton loved it so much he recorded it in 1974, and it became a #1 hit. Clapton's international fame helped bring reggae to a wide (white) world audience. Bob Marley and The Wailers sold millions of albums (I Know, I have them all), with "Live' and 'Babylon By Bus' (also a live album) at the top of my list. Clapton loved all types of world music and styles. Thanks as always, Big Soul Biz.
🎸💯 Eric Clapton is crazy great in concert‼🔥 🤯 I've seen him 4 or 5 times over the years & I've loved his music since I was REALLY young‼🐐 BizMatik, you should dive deep into EC & listen to everything of his that you can‼You won't be sorry‼☮ ❤ 🎶
I think you would like the show Eric Clapton did with The Allman Brothers from the Beacon Theater. The whole show was fire!.Maybe react to Little Wing,Stormy Monday or Key To The Highway from that show
Hey Biz!!! I personally think Clapton is the greatest blues rock guitarist ever! He can play so many different genres of music and done it for what 50 yrs
I got to see him during a blues tour in '94 in Indy. Jimmie Vaughn opened. It was great! May I recommend the "greatest guitarist you've never heard of," Roy Buchanan. Try his version of Hey Joe from '76. It'll knock your socks off. He died young.
Can never forget seeing Bob Marley play this in his London Rainbow set so to be honest, nothings going to come close to that. This EC version has definitely got soul and gospel running through it's veins, staying true to the original. Thanks for the playing this.
Wow…. Never seen this music clip ! “Eric Clapton” (Legend) this might be the best version of this song ! 🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸 Love what your doing on your wall ❤️🔥❤️
Clapton, Marley and Cale all kinda merged into my life at once. I'd heard Bob b4 this became popular. My sis was a travel agent way back in 80s and she took her 1st cruise, stopping in Jamaica, she fell in love with Reggae and the culture, she went just to the island 3 different times in 80s, immersed herself, so I learned from her, Jimmy Cliff, Bunny Wailer and Bob. When Eric came out with this...😯 And then the entire "After Midnight" album, my ears nourishment. Saw him 3 different times...incredible!! ❤🔥🥳
looks like Ron Wood of the Rolling Stones in the audience.....The great Steve Gadd on drums, and the back up singers were killers...better then the original.
I don't know where Clapton finds these band mates but they are taking this. As much as i like Clapton the whole band absolutely upstages him on this one. Fucking TIGHT.

Eric "Slow Hand" Clapton barely looks like he is trying ..

Every song Clapton does is golden - an amazing talent!

The amazing thing about Eric Clapton. This is his only number one Song hard to believe.

Any Clapton fan can hear his play....perfect timing. Perfect sound. Clean, crisp, and no one else plays like that.
4+ decades of showing up ready to deliver. I was fortunate to catch one EC concert during his Lay Down Sally tour, very cool.
Raised on Clapton. His music helped me get through some tough times.

Sharon White on back vocals, a blues angel. She make wonder bread sound good.

There’s some live Bob Marley versions of this that you need to hear! 🖖🏼
I prefer Bob Marley's version, Clapton made this a radio hit in the 70's.
My personal favorite from that Crossroads was Tell the Truth
Tuvak on bass kills it! 😄
The Best versions of this song by him are Crossroads 2004 and MSG 2004. Both amazing
I do like this version, it sounds much closer to the original
Great song! Glad you enjoyed it. I hadn't seen this amazing performance before!
One of the best Clayton solos I have heard. Eric was out of his mind. Fire Cover.
You have a killer performance on your hands with this one!Ty brother!
Can never forget seeing Bob Marley play this in his London Rainbow set so to be honest, nothings going to come close to that.

Saying you like this, on Clapton's "There's one in every crowd" album, Clapton wrote a sequel to I shot the sheriff, called Don't blame me.
The back singers add so much
Clapton is a legend😊...great band also!!!
"Every day the bucket a-go a well,
One day the bottom a-go drop out,
One day the bottom a-go drop out"- Robert Nesta Marley
theres a reason clapton is a legend
Great arrangement and performance.
Clapton shot the sherriff, but BizMatic shot the breeze. Good tunes. I remember this hit. Do some Bob Marley reactions.
This is a great live version of this song

Ridiculous!.. back up singers are beyond talented and SMOKIN!
I tell you Biz, 461 Ocean Boulevard is great.
Clapton was a close friend of Bob Marley
looks like Ron Wood of the Rolling Stones in the audience.....The great Steve Gadd on drums, and the back up singers were killers...better then the original.

Ok. Who shot the Deputy??? Some one tell me. 😊😊. Someone will know.
I like the spoof version "Andy's the sheriff, and Barney is the deputy."
The radio version is better in my opinion
