Tony is doing a tool review, showcasing the battle of the SDS's Makita vs Hilti vs Festool
This tool review begins with the Festool SDS which is about 8 years older than the Hilti model so to make it a fair comparison the hoover attachment will not be used
On the first test its neck and neck to see who wins out of Hilti and Festool, the Festool boasting a lighter weight and Hilti boasting a bit more power to drive through the brick.
The next test is Makita vs Festool and their contest is a bit more one sided until the very end

Really love your videos. Have the 12 volt makita sds, its very slow but powerful, used it with 1 metre 10mm bit and went through a double skin of brick no problem. Very annoying that they don't stay upright. I think the Mak you used was the sub compact version. The larger 18v doesn't fall over.
Unfair to put the Makita in there as it’s the small version without a hammer only setting. The bigger one is much better. Although it’s light weight and great for quick and easy drilling for smaller screws.
And it has a fake battery in it
Great review Tony but price comparison is very different in the makita to the other two I think ,
They all do the job. All within 1 - 3 seconds of each other. You'd never notice a difference unless you were using them side-by-side
my festool is great, comfortable and lightweight but i wouldn't recommend it to anyone else except maybe a kitchen fitter just because it doesn't have a chisel function and is a nuisance when i have to get the corded out for a little job. so for me the hilti would win every time
This!! It’s the only time I pull out a festool and think there’s other brands that do this job better.
I have the festool and used the DeWalt, Bosch and Makita. Thinking of getting the DeWalt or Makita as the festool has no chisel function which is a major let down as have to go get my corded old big Bosch and extension lead from the van when a bit of chiseling as most time on the job it's always needed where as most other sds have that simple but necessary function. Love the festool for light, anti vibrate, power etc but major let down for lack of chisel.
They have a new one now with chisel function
thats the baby makita sds, nice and light for 6mm plugs really... dhr243 is the one you should of used for a fair comparison though.
Hi Dinglebell I will try that one against the Hilti because the Makita dhr243 is about the same money as the Hilti but a lot more than the festool all the best Tony 👍
Not sure which model Makita you had there? But my Makita SDS drills don’t fall over like that, I can see how that is annoying! I also really rate the Makita 18v SDS drills I’ve got, I will pick them over a corded SDS anytime, not for convenience but for productivity, they really do pack a punch I think. However, I’ve not got much experience with other brands, so the Makitas might not be as good as I think they are, but I’m more than happy with them.
Which would I buy? The one I had the battery for. Makes the tools much more likely to be used if I always have a charged battery ready to go. If I am on Festool platform I go that way and vice versa
Love my Milwaukee Sds, I have used Hilti and enjoyed it though
Cool vid. We use bosch 36v and 18v milwaukee dewalt and mikita sds's on our firm. Tbh my fav is the milwaukee but they all do the job. The bosch is a big old beast that we normally use for the more taxing jobs and the dewalt is the smallest, it surprisingly powerful bit of kit, but for general day to day and hanging off ladders, I love the milwaukee. So much power and pretty lightweight. Goes through anything ive chucked at it. Good chiseler ,overall very nice.
Really fancy a play with one of those hiltis though. Years ago we had an older hilti was a great tool😮

Milwaukee is great stuff personally I feel the Hilti is to expensive considering what you can get for a better price tag, Hilti petrol is absolutely useless only good thing Hilti do really is there breaker range massively disappointed with there service as well, Hilti use to be great but really gone down hill have a cracking bank holiday all the best Tony 👍

That little makita is only for red plugs. Get your hands on the 40v one, its an animal.
I’d be keen to see how the DeWalt DCH273 compares to these!
The truth is they're all great tools. If you don't believe me try using a Rawldrill as a comparison and count your blessings.
Thats not even a real makita battery, its a knock off.
milwaukee 2912-20 also good. festool cannot remove floor tile.

Actually it wasn’t just peppered the drill holes were used for all the fixtures of the system used 👏👏👏👏 so you haven’t got a clue

You can have 2 1/2 makita sds drills for the price of the festool. Take into consideration the batteries and chargers and the makita becomes even better value.
Only my opinion but the festool isn't superior enough to warrant the extra 💷💷💷

Bare unit Festool is £229 on ffx

@@jrsuk1170 bare units are different definitely but the kits there’s not a lot between them, I think the next Makita up might be a better option because of taking more power but that’s more than the festool kit when you buy them apples for apples but it is all down to personal choice

How about you use a genuine makita battery on it instead of the shitty fake one. If it had a genuine 5 ah battery it would have come 1st or guaranteed 2nd

That makita is baby makita the other version doesn't fall over it does 24mm in concrete as the festool only does 18mm so no good for plumbers gas engineers
