I love the level of sophistication here and the attention to details. Great keyboard !
Hey Frank! Awesome video. I've been building boards for a couple years now and have a couple tips if you're interested:
1. You can use 205g0 on all parts of your stab. Just brush it on the wire like you did with the stab housing. Also, make sure you lube the stab insert too (the part that you clipped).
2. Hard to tell, but it looks like your switches are not clipped into the plate so it's just resting on the pcb. I've also bought that plate from spacecat and I had the same issue. The switch cutouts are too loose.
3. Leaving the middle screw out won't soften your typing experience unless you also remove the standoff. The pcb is just resting on it now and likely making noise when it smacks against the standoff.
4. I know you said that switch you lubed was messy, but just in case, that was enough lube for about 3-4 switches. You want just enough that there is a slight gloss texture to the plastic. There should be no white globs or areas of excess buildup or the switch will feel gumed up and sluggish.
Otherwise, this is a heck of a first build. My first "build" was literally just a switch swap, haha.
Ensaum for stabs it’s better to get dielectric grease and superlube, 205g0 is still good tho
@@ferni0 I've done both multiple times and gotten better results with 205g0. Personal preference though I guess.
Ensaum I’d say for beginners superlube is easier because of availability, when you start lube is tricky to find
Can i mix dielectric for wire and thick lube for sliders?
Nevermind lol
Though I would've personally preferred the fun of soldering a build, you checked all the boxes for your custom :)
- clipped and lubed stabilizers
- lubed switches
- dampened the case, especially considering it's a tray-mount
- purposefully omitted mounting the middle post to have sound/feel to your liking
- high-quality (custom) keycaps
- custom cable
- desk mat
Great stuff!
his first custom was soldered so I guess he just liked the benefits of hotswap more.

the keys sound absolutely amazing
I just built my first custom mech yesterday with that same PCB, and it's so great. What you could do is remap the right shift, control menu and fn keys with QMK to arrow keys with tap functions, so you get the benefits of a big board in a smaller form factor.
Why not just remap w a s d to arrow keys on other layer with fn1/2 key
So you don't have to hit a button to activate another layer everytime you want to access arrow keys
