  • I got a sneak peak of the Marble's Exhibition Grade Daddy Toothpick on my Visit to SMKW. I now own not one, but two of these fine specimens. That doesn't include the other "Daddy Toothpick" in my collection. If you're into large toothpicks, you're going to want to check these outs.

Would a manufacturer simply switch shields and try rebranding with a more popular name if they had made a great knife that didn’t sell as well as expected under the first name leaving a significant number of good quality knives unsold? (Also it would be great if they made a bolster lock version!)

Darn it Tobias… another size toothpick!?!
    3, 4, 5 inch… where does the madness stop?
I’ll have to order this soon😅

Those are two good looking knives. I really enjoy all of the back history you give in your videos. I do have one question, how do you store your knives and boxes that they came in? I posted a video on my channel asking for help or any ideas because I am getting to the point where I don't know which way to go for storage. Thanks, Live Long Prosper and Collect Your Own Way!

Those knives deserve a display of their own. Quite impressive. Thanks for the video. Great music, as well.

Great video, I picked one up earlier this month and love it. I seem to have fallen in love with the large toothpick pattern thanx to someone, (Looks at Knife Chats LOL) now I will be searching eBay for the Winchester model. I really like the checkering and have to collect the whole exhibition grade series.

I returned 2 Winchesters due to the weak pulls. Maybe I'll try the Marble's.

These are only marginally stronger so if you’re looking for a much stronger pull you will be disappointed

Good looking set of covers on those knives. I have occasionally carried the large Winchester toothpick and have enjoyed it. Hopefully they will come out with a Gunstock (shaped and jigged) jack.

Awesome that the knife is available again, this time under the Marbles brand. You gave some good ideas of handle material to SMKW, let's hope they pick it up and we have more of the Jumbo Toothpicks to come. Thank you Tobias.

The checkered bone is the nicest feature, like you say, would be nice if the made more big toothpicks, with different sides, thanks for the video, Tobias.

    Hey Tobias,
Love that Marbles version. Beautiful looking piece.
Those checkered bone covers look fantastic.
Great historical information and detective work 😀
Really hope Marble’s extend their options on this pattern.
Great video, really enjoyed this one.
    Thanks brother 😎👍🏻

I have the Winchester collection series and that series cost $24.99 for the same knife as the Marbles knife. That is cool seeing the same knife sold for less. I have the same Winchester model as yours. I believe there were nine different patterns of this knife sold but might have been more. I have eight and the missing one is a swing guard pattern.
All came in the same size box and all the knives are missing a China made stamp. The box however, has China below the Barcode on the Box. Some of the models I have used 7Cr17MoV SS blade steel. The Marbles use 440 blades that might make a difference in pricing but is odd.😆👍

    • @KnifeChatswithTobias
      @KnifeChatswithTobias  ปีที่แล้ว +1

I think the main difference is Winchester just charged more. 7Cr is just China’s name for 440a Stainless. I recall commenting that I felt it was disingenuous the way Winchester and others just put a China sticker on the knife as it meant anybody could easily add USA to the tang and resell the knife without the box.
This was especially problematic as Winchester produced quite a few USA made knives.

I love my vintage Case XX and I have bought my boys and myself the Bear and Son 5” Rosewood for the JO Sheaths like yours I also bought my boys some of those Stoneworks that you recommended However those Marbles look very nice indeed and I may have to buy three more if they are available
Thanks again You have never steered me wrong

Huh. I planned to pick that Marbles up - it’d be my first large toothpick, and first checkered-bone knife. Kinda disappointed that it’s just a reissue of the Winchester. Don’t know why that bothers me, but it does. A different shield would have been nice.

I found out that both were made under contract by SMKW and they were designed under contract there.

Curious that they're similar except for the pull. The first Marbles I had was a toothpick with ram horn scales, and it had a weak pull. Will see what others they have in the Exhibition series. Thanks Tobias,I always appreciate the history behind the knives.

I just got word that the series was designed in house by SMKW under contract for Winchester. So yep, same knives just a different brand.

Did the Marbles have a removable China sticker like the Winchester?

    • @KnifeChatswithTobias

Thankfully not. It will be much more difficult for the unscrupulous to stamp these made in USA.

Amazing and then they all moan about Chinese knives it's bewilders me not harping on about Chinese knives but they get their Steel right are there Rockwell testing right they built things to last and then when two companies in America do it Acer ok it's all perfect and that's it nobody says anything because it's right because it's America people must use their own judgement because it boggles my mind anyway thumbs up cos I don't want to write a novel I'm getting to it too deeply because I know an awful lot if you pay tens 20s and 50s a pounds in China you're going to get something good extra good if you pay 25 all 35 so on and so forth dollars it's like a lucky bag and don't expect greatness because it's called economy and that is the way it is

Just received one this afternoon and the blade centering is horrible. Not quite making contact but darn close. Not sure if I should send back or just mark it off as that’s why you were warned bout Marbles”
