RLRR LRLL is 'what' to play - DUTT DUTT is the 'how' to play it - to those unknowing drummers may wonder why they struggle and get confused as to how to add the accent comfortably without the use of a preparation stroke (the up stroke). By playing the PD using the motion of DUTT = flow = speed. Once a certain level of speed is reached, to progress further up the tempo scale, controlled double strokes (bounce & snap) are needed to play each 'diddle'. Without the use of controlled double strokes within the PD, again some level of confusion and frustration are likely to occur. Another little exercise to help build PD momentum is to think of returning to the beginning of the PD as a Drag 'rrL and llR'. If you can play nice controlled drags this can help propel your PDs forward. 🙂👍
