In this video we discuss the DOP (Depth of field) preview button. The DOP preview button is used to measure the dop (depth of field) in a photograph. Most cameras have a DOF button but most people don't know how to use it. In this video I show you how to use the DOP button and how you might be able to redefine it for a different purpose. I've had my Nikon D750 Pv button set to focus for years. So instead of back button focus I have front button focus. My pointer finger wraps around the grip and is right there. Much easier than a thumb on the back In my opinion.
Hi, unfortunately, it looks like this button is not able to be re-programed on this camera. It looks like the only button your can remap is the SET button (while shooting)
Hi Dio. The depth of field preview button only closes the lens up to your set f-stop. It should not affect the shutter number. Can I confirm that in your question you were referring to the depth of field preview button and not the preview button that displays your photo? Dan

2:15 is absolutely false in so many cameras (I don't know all). Now I haven't gone much past 70D, though I haven't seen the live view actually changing the DoF at all, and just tried to confirm it again: LiveView always shows the highest f/stop (most bokeh) at all times, except when the DoF preview button is pressed. There is a way around it with Magic Lantern though, where you can make the button into a toggle.

That's an excellent tip!

Hello . preview button affects shutter number??

G'day. You are 100% correct. A slip of the tongue from me. Thanks for keeping me honest! :-)
