    I'm an aviation mechanic for the last 27 years. I've had the Craftsman foam wrench holders in my box for 20 years and they are still going strong. Your right about mounting them to a drawer liner if there's only a few wrenches, but if you have your 3/8 thru 1 inch in the rail, the weight of the set will hold it down nicely. Also the group eases up after a little while making it easy to get at your wrenches. Lastly, they have lasted me 20 years and I've transplanted them thru 3 box upgrades. I like them the best of all the ones I've tried. Too bad you can't get them anymore.

    The Tekton wrench racks are made by Ernst. I think Ernst is still the best bang for your buck, no matter which style you get. And, if money isn't an obstacle, Snap On sells rebranded Ernst wrench and socket rails in lots of other color options.

      TheQuartermaster55 ya I have really enjoyed Ernst as well. Both socket rails and wrench rails. They are great and pretty decent on prices as well

    Great video Tony. I need to do something with my wrenches. I was looking at something a little different as well. They're called Sort-a-Tool wrench trays. If you look them up, you'll see that they hold both SAE and metric in the same tray. I would buy 2 trays myself (if I go this route) use one for each. They come with the sizing stickers that you have to apply. For 10 minutes of work I can cut them apart and apply them accordingly, metric ones in one tray and SAE in the other. They hold 28 wrenches total each. 6-19 mm and 1/4"-3/4". They are regularly $10.99 each at Sears but are sale this week for 10% off at $9.89. These can be found on both Amazon and eBay but not this cheep that I have seen.

    • @TonyTheTechnician
      @TonyTheTechnician  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Mark Hetzer yes I have seen those. I almost bought those when I first bought my box. I think it's a good idea to buy 2 so you can still keep them separate.

    I just got a set of Ernst wrench rails that I like. I've also had a set of 2-piece rails that were awful. I'm probably going to do a 3-way side-by-side comparison when I get the new Tekton wrench sets in the grab and go carriers.

    Great video and review! The last 6 months I have been trying to not only build my tool collection but my knowledge of the mechanics as well but unfortunately a couple weeks j had to put the tools down due to cancer, hopefully if all goes well in a couple months I will back turning wrenchs but I couldn't help but notice your shirt and man, I like it. Did you purchase it somewhere or was it designed by you because I'd really like to get one. Keep up the great videos and if u did happen to make those and have an extra, would you sell one to me? Have to ask thanks again

    I use tools everyday to make a living, I have a service van with tools, I have a shop at work with tools, I have a shop at home with tools. My shops are nice but they are not tool displays. Everything in your videos looks absolutely brand new! Do you actually even use your tools? Do you know how to use tools or do you just display them like most the Posers on you tube that give tool reviews and tool box storage advice.

    • @TonyTheTechnician
      @TonyTheTechnician  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I use tools every day to make a living as well. But guess what. I can keep them clean and not be a dick. So I guess that's two positives. You should work on both. Thanks for watching.

    • @AAA-nq6bo
      @AAA-nq6bo 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      TonyTheTechnician I am by no means perfect and yes I have a ton of faults! I’ve worked in the trades for about 35 years and worked with thousands of trades guys from just about every trade discipline you can think of. Talented trades guys are billed out from $60 to $200 an hour and if the guy/woman signing the pay checks saw any one of them polishing, cuddling, and cradling their tools on the clock they’d be unemployed! Tools are readily available and cheap....Skilled labor is hard to find and expensive! Yes... take care of your tools but don’t get so obsessive about it that you become unproductive.

    • @TonyTheTechnician
      @TonyTheTechnician  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@AAA-nq6bo if the tools are regularly cleaned and wiped it doesn't take but a few seconds and no one said you had to do it during a job. It's super easy and way cheaper then buying these cheap tools you speak of. A work truck will also serve you alot longer if you clean and maintain it regularly but by your logic just send it and you will be buying a new service truck sooner then you should have to. This rule applies to alot of things in life. The way someone thinks and handles themselves along with the property they use to make a living says alot about a person and alot of the time shows how professional and successful they will be in life. And yes I know that's not true in all cases but it's proven most people who are organized clean and professional with the proper mind set can be very successful in life. Just bc I'm not a person who like to leave everything dirty and unorganized does not make me unsuccessful. I think after 8 years in the army then going to college and working as a mechanic on a professional race team I'll keep doing things how I'm doing things. Best of luck to you as well

      @@AAA-nq6bo thank you and by know means am I disagreeing with you either. I completely understand there is a time and place for maintaining the tools and equipment and definitely shouldn't be done during the time given to get a job done. Thank you for sharing your thoughts 👍

    I wish there was a good way to organize a field service truck. It's a bitch trying to keep tools in place. Problem is that most drawers in a truck are smaller than normal toolbox drawers. Good video.

  • @rodw
    @rodw 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Another great video, thank you for sharing once again. A couple of thoughts I'd like to share, on the first rail you showed, couldn't you use a dremel tool to cut the front part a little bit to loosen the grip but still hold the wrench? If a person wanted to use the foam method seems like it would be a lot cheaper to make it rather than buy it. Now I need some advice. What do you think about using Styrofoam on bottom half and regular foam on top? I also saw kind of diy video where a used wood and a comment was made about the weight? but I thought he had a good idea, he had a small set he put on top of others that ran along front and back of the drawer after he waxed bottom of the board. You could add a hole to move it back n forth

    • @TonyTheTechnician
      @TonyTheTechnician  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Rodney Widger yes you could do that and save some money. As far as the styrofoam combination I believe would also work but you have to have extreme patience with that bc it’s going to take time and if not done correctly it could either look horrible or just not last very long. I would say that is the biggest problem is the longevity of foam. The wood idea is great as long as it’s not to big and heavy. Thank you 👍🏻

    i had a hard time figuring out my wrench's there were a few cheep magnet wrench holders that i grabbed because of the name ernest and it was cheep also love the socket organizers and it held 40 i think i have the metric and sae set that goes up to 1 1/4 and 26mm i think so i have a bunch...not the name brand real expensive sets just the harbor freight cheeper variety ... but there are still not a bad option in my opion... and the problem with the magnet holder when you put th wrench away some times you knock it over it is kind of a pain...and with all the little ones and wrachet ones i have it would be better if the magnets were stronger i may some day just remove them and throw them in the drawer ....ya there are really no good choices for the real big wrench sets i like the little plastic tecton i almost wish there was a 40 set instead of the 15... maybe someday..

      Every time I've bought cheap tools I've regretted it. They are a waste of money and pain to use. For example I bought one of those cheap wrench sets from harbor freight, and they are not sized to an exact tolerance to tighten a bolt, they slip and strip the bolt head. Seriously a good tool will last a lifetime and bring you joy to use.

    Does it require 15 minutes to bitch about products that dont work? How about 10 minutes dedicated to cost effective solutions for tool organization and some helpful tips on tool grouping.
    As years pass, for me my tool set has grown and it gets harder to keep certain tools with other tools in a similar category. I have found that I have bought items and only used once and a year or two passes and you forget you have a certain something the next time.
    I would love to see a video of a tech that has really got it figured out so I can learn and mimic their success because I suspect a lot of us have similar issues. I'm not to proud to copy people whom are better at things the. Me.
