As much as I love the presence of McLaren's, I'm still not sure if I'd actually ever buy one myself. Vin Wiki's stories about how multiple 650S's all died on the track (within hours of use each time) and McLaren refusing to replace them or even pay for repairs each time, all because apparently they weren't officially designed for track use (lol), and this also despite all the other super cars they used for track days not having the same issues (Ferrari, Lamborghini etc). Then you have yourself, Solomondrin and others who have had awful reliability and issues with theirs too. These cars simply do not seem particularly reliable and the customer service appears to simply be awful unless you're some TH-camr with hundreds of thousands of followers or raise a massive social media stink or whatever. Honestly it seems like unbelievably poor customer service that it even took you this long to get a solution, especially for such premium priced vehicles.

My friend, take my advice. Do not just go according to what you heard in this video. This guy is just one McLaren owner. Rather, do some research into the brand (and especially the McLaren model you are interested in), by going on forums and or talking to other McLaren owners. There are several other McLaren 720s owners who have stated they haven't experienced problems with their car. Brooks of Dragtimes is one such person. And he often race his 720s. And I find it rather strange that someone would make a video encouraging people not to buy a vehicle from a band, simply because he's experienced problems with one particular model. And this guy seem so desperate, in that regard. Who does that? I'm not saying he shouldn't make a vid informing his viewers of the problems with his car. Others have done it before. But they do not get into this "do not buy a McLaren, or Ferrari, or Tesla, etc." They simply inform viewers/listeners of the problems they're experiencing with their car, and let them decide.

I hesitated just before Christmas on pulling the trigger on a 570GT after 3 years of trouble free R8 V10 ownership as I’m hearing so many people experiencing issues admittedly more 12c and 720s biased. It’s really put me off the brand and I’be watched cars sit for 6 months at my local dealer Ascot McLaren with shocking depreciation as people avoid them. I really do hope that they sort their s%%% out but until they do my money will be heading elsewhere.
Really sorry that you are having such a torrid time Phil and I hope that you get your money back in a timely manner. Thanks for posting.

Mate, I can feel your despair and frustration. I've never bought anything anywhere near the value of a 720S but it's a horrible feeling when you feel ripped off and no one is answering or seems to even care. That company's management chain seems to be filled with useless seat warmers who don't care. Lack of care and lack of personal ownership is the ultimate sin in business. People like that should be sacked quickly before they bring down the whole business, and they failed at the most basic but the most important aspect of customer service: Communication! I am glad you got their attention in the end though, thanks to the power of all the people that supported you though social media and had the power of will to walk away from something you really wanted. McLaren should have refunded you the full amount, but I could tell you were relieved just to get it resolved with some loss. It's ok, live and learn. You mentioned in the resolution video that you might want to get another car from them in the future. Any time you start thinking that, re-watch this video and ask yourself if you want to feel like that again

I feel for you. When I bought my last BMW I phoned the Sales Manager and explained to him that I was very particular. I made it very clear that I accepted his terms and conditions but in addition I made it very very clear that I expected the car to be delivered perfect, to provide trouble free motoring and as a dealer I expected them to give me the service/experience promised by BMW. Clearly I was being an arse but I am very particular and have little time for the knobs that sell cars. He assured me that all would be fine and they could indeed meet my expectations. Needles to say it was terrible. Result after three month's: the dealer bought the car back off me and I got a credit from BMW UK. When we were doing the paperwork for the dealer to buy it back (something he'd never had to do before) I asked him if he'd remembered my first conversation with him - the look on his face was worth the aggravation. Unfortunately, it really is the people who shout loudest that get the results. I would put vinyl stickers all over it and park it outside the factory. Perhaps park it outside the CEOs house. I only really got results when I emailed all the global heads of BMW. Good luck and keep track of all your time.

Exactly.... Any brand at any time can give you problems. Look at the Coyote Mustang engines that tick. BMW has had fuel pump issues in the N54 they were forced to fix so owning one now isn't as bad as used car but new it would be a headache. You just never know. My 2009 BMW is great but I'm actually being forced to sell it soon but it runs like a champ. All it needed was a new charge pipe, coil/plugs and it was good to go. I opted to buy new shocks for it just because I myself am picky and I wanted to try out the Koni Active shocks and they were very good, I'd highly recommend them.

Sounds like my SAAB 9.3T which I purchased from the dealer. Spent more time in the shop getting repaired than on the road - seriously. The warranty ran out - time not mileage - while it was in the SAAB dealership getting 'serviced'. My car had everything go wrong. For example, it went through 6 transmissions - all covered by warranty.
The worst aspect about owning a SAAB was that the dealership wouldn't take my car back in on trade for a brand new one. They rather get soaked by their own horrible product via warranty service than taking their product back in exchange. That car was around $40K new and well over $40k in warranty servicing. No wonder the company's gone...

I’ve had the same issue with my 570S Spider. I had it for 18 months and it spent 3 months in repair at different times. One was a month long and same as you, days later it experienced the exact same problem, then back to the shop. I ended up selling it because where I live, I get 5 good months of driving per year, and it really sucks when my supercar is only available to drive half that time. Now granted, after dealing with Maclaren North America (where I live) and after some frustration with a terrible rep, they replaced him with a new rep who settled with me by offering me some financial compensation. So, I did get compensated, but it never makes up for having a car that doesn’t work.

I have a large Porsche collection and few other exotic cars but never owned a Mclaren, but always wanted to own one but was always worried about the reliability and especially when the closest Mclaren dealership to where I live is over 500 miles. I was under impression that their reliability has improved since the earlier MP4, and was seriously about to pull the plug and buy one, but after watching this video, I won’t make this mistake. Thank you so much for sharing with us.....I can’t afford sending the car 500 miles one way every time something goes wrong and it appears from your video, it is all the time. I own 8 Porsches including 5 special GT Porsche cars and I put lots of miles on each and everyone of these cars and I never have any trouble and only time the cars go back to service is to change the oil. That’s it. I can’t and won’t upset my life over owning a troublesome car. I will keep checking to see if they improve their reliability and customer service then I may reconsider buying one in the future. Mark Qandil

Last year I took the conservative option, buying a 2 year old 991.2, rather than a much older 12C that would have cost more. I was hoping to learn the British brand's reputation for reliability would improve over a few years of 570S production so that one could find its way into my garage, about 2022. You purchased a high tech low volume sports car from a start up manufacturer with no experience with manufacturing road cars.
Yet you are surprised you are having problems.
British specialist producers have never been able to make a reasonably reliable car.
Even volume makers have never enjoyed a good reputation compared to cars made in other countries.

Unfortunately I think you must have a lemon. I had a similar experience with a 997 911. Nick Murray has had a bad experience with his 991.2 911 but he does not think it's endemic. I doubt this happens will all 720s. The customer service does not seem good though.

      @@MclarenMP412C-
I don't buy what this guy is saying for a second. And by that I'm not implying that he didn't have a bad experience (s) with his 720s. But notice he stated, "do not buy a McLaren." He did not say do not buy a 720S. The question is, why would someone try to discourage people from buying a vehicle of a brand (which consist of an entire line up of cars), simply because he's had some problems with a particular model? And why would he consider selling the same allegedly bad McLaren product/brand to someone, if he is willing to go so far as trying to persuade folks not to buy vehicles from that manufacturer? I mean, does it really add up? I am not saying he can't inform us of the problems he's been having with his car. But simply do so, and let your viewers/listeners decide for themselves. Personally, I think there's a another motive here.

You have taken my video far too literally. Look at my old videos I genuinely love Mclaren as a brand. I have been shocked and disgusted by the way my bad experience has been handled. I admit I have had a lemon! The cars when working are good very good. Just watch out for the bad ones.

The owner of the company I work for spect a McLaren, waited a year to get it. He drove it home from the dealer and picked up his wife. The car broke down minutes later. Had it towed to McLaren. They claimed it was an electrical issue after and after waiting a week to get the part they replaced it. Five days later It did the same thing. He got rid of that car quick. Now he’s a Lamborghini owner and has had zero issues. I wish you the best of luck with your dilemma.

In all honesty iv had many cars in my time...maybe not as exotic as a mclaren but in my experience every time iv had an issue with any of my cars iv always had very poor after care, some worse than others. The simple fact is once they have your money they couldnt care less and it's that simple. I hope you managed to get this sorted though mate and I do know how terribly frustrating it is. Thing is it's not just cars that this kind of thing happens with...its usually everything!

Damn this is really disappointing, I'm a big McLaren it would be the first supercar I would want to own but hearing all these stories from people all of the world is really off putting. People who have great experiences don't talk it enough either which makes their brand look worse. Hard to feel much for TGE because how he acts infront of the camera sometimes but it's disgraceful that both of you have been treated like this, nobody deserves this treatment. McLaren are expanding too fast, not looking after their customers will be their downfall!

From an owner that had: - audi R8, then a ferrari F12 then the 720s straight out the audi never skipped a beat, f12 gave me a 8 months out of every year of owner ship with for 4 years of it with a less than 20k miles then on with the 720s after one track day then everything starts to break loss on it! I watched this with a 😢 so it wasn’t just me!

This is the first time I’ve watch any of your vids. After all that I really felt your frustration. However, you gave me the same frustration by not giving me one clue at to what was wrong with your car? I’m a mechanic and I would have really loved to know what components of your car failed and or kept failing. Just basic information I wanted to know after 10 minutes of feeling bad for your situation and got no completion. When car guys chat about what goes wrong with certain cars, the list becomes a record of what future owners can watch for.

For me I’m sticking with Italian. Thanks for letting us all know. This is one company that truly needs to start respecting its clients.

As a 720 owner myself I find myself in two minds on videos like this. At a personal level I’m sorry you’ve had a bad experience and hope you get things sorted. However, I’m also pretty sick and tired of all the whining videos on TH-cam about cars going wrong - which are a small minority of the cars out there. I’ve had multiple McLarens and haven’t had a single issue with any of them over many thousands of miles covered. If you hate ownership so much, sell the car and buy something else!
