The reason why Jaden won most of the duels was because most people he dueled had awful decks that would take a miracle to win. Also. There should be more duels like the maze.
Zexal hot take: It was over hated for no reason. The duels were actually really good and Yuma became a very talented duelist towards the end. Yea he started off bad but not liking him for that is just crazy. Yuma had so much improvement over the course of Zexal. He didn’t lose not one duel in the second half of the show
I genuinely think Zexal wouldn’t have been so hated if it had come out in a different time. DM wasn’t that old and the Yugioh anime hadn’t stopped since it first aired at that time. Nobody needed a soft reboot then, but a reboot in the style of Zexal would be appreciated today.
Here's my hot take for Zexal fans specifically: I _don't_ want Zexal to get another season. The show ended perfectly in my opinion. The only way I would want it to return is if they delve deeper into- *MASSIVE ZEXAL SPOILERS AHEAD:* -how exactly Astral's chaos (Yuma) became separated during his duel against Don Thousand. And even that could be shown in a flashback during some kind of crossover movie.
Zexal had a lot of rewrites and unexplained lore due to being shortened from 300 episodes to 150. You can really tell in the final season when they use Astral's spaceship as a way to string all sorts of scenes together. Honestly, it's amazing that the show was as good as it was considering how much went wrong at the last minute. Here's what we know so far: 1. Dr. Faker's plans were originally planned to extend beyond the world duel carnival arc. He was quickly defeated to move the story along. 2. There was some sort of subplot about Yuma, Utopia, and Astral being connected. Astral's creator, Enna and Yuma's mother are the only characters in the entire series to share a hairstyle, meaning they might have been the same person. During the Eclipse duel, there are also some throwaway lines about Utopia being "familiar" that never gets followed up on. 3. Astral's memories never get explained to the audience. We see the first few, but after a while, he stops sharing them. 4. Two planned mechanics never appeared in the show, those being SXYZ and Double evolutions. To this day, we know nothing besides the names. A staff member also claimed that synchros were coming, but that might have been a lie. 5. There was going to be a storyline in which two aliens named Arco and Proto manipulated Yuma and Kite, culminating in their rematch. We know nothing about this arc except how it would've began. 6. There was also a cut storyline involving the Barians being stranded on Earth. The Alito duel seems to be recycled from one of those cut episodes. 7. In one episode of the show, Dumon challenges Yuma to a duel, then leaves for absolutely no reason. Clearly this duel was cut for time. 8. Don Thousand was originally going to become yet another evil counterpart to Astral. There's also evidence that the plotline of him absorbing the Barians was a last minute addition. It seems to have been a way to resolve the character's stories by killing them off.
Z-ONE should’ve been a future Yusei pushed to the brink. Present Yusei was always going on about the bonds he shared with his friends and being able to accomplish anything because of it only to have his disheartened future self telling him he inevitably fails and ends up being the last human would’ve been mind blowing.
5D’s hot take: The plot of season one of 5D’s was actually an amazing because it actually added more ancient past lore to before duel monsters was a card game, like there’s the oricalcos, the Egyptians, Alexander who was exploring a pyramid full of capsule monsters for more power and finally our big boi for 5Ds that adds more duel monsters history, Earthbound Immortals vs the Crimson Dragon and its dragon servants, which is by far my favorite of the ancient duel monsters history stuff (I WILL FIGHT ANYONE WHO SAYS IT SUCKS!!)
I got a Zexal hot take- Yuma is honestly an over hated protagonist. Sure he’s not really likable in the earlier episodes but I do think he becomes better as the series progresses. Plus he’s way more relatable than we give him credit for. He starts off as a complete novice but over time he grows and learns from his experiences. Plus this kid has had to endure so much. From loosing his parents to having most of his friends betray him and die right in front of him. (Keep in mind this kid is 11 I think btw.) The fact that an eleven year old had to go through the wringer and still tried to see the best in everyone is incredible.
Yuma is 13. Yuga from Sevens is the 11yo ygo protagonist who probably received even more hate than Yuma just for being a child protag in a Rush Duel anime.
@2:31 not merely disagreeing; this is untrue! 5ds specifically (not gonna spoil) has extremely intricate lore that makes sense and even ties in with earlier parts of the series, making these powerful cardboards as you say make much sense. They're more of a spiritual thing there but you'll see when u watch it
Obligatory hot take, duels in duelist kingdom were the most interesting in the series. The simple yet dnd style made each battle unique and allowed for many strategies. Traps and spells being rare yet powerful also added a made them feel like a big deal when used
One thing I don’t like is how people think that in the world of Yu-Gi-Oh, Duel Monsters is a card game for children. The entirety of the universe of Yugioh is dependent on Duel Monsters, Darkness confirms this when he said that when he came to the Yugioh dimension he made a deck so he could take over the world
It was always a teens to adult game in all contexts *except* for the TCG. For some reason they aimed the TCG at a demographic so young that they can barely play the game. The OCG is also considered a teens to adult card game for reference.
The card game IN UNIVERSE was for children. Pegasus had an add featuring a kid to sell packs. This is a children card games. Stop pretending Yugioh was that mature just because it featured mild dark themes. It’s literally a shonen, meaning young boys. Its for kids.
Why did the IP seemingly have to be censored for the JP anime and then again for the west? It just plain does not make sense, either it is for little timmy or it's not.
Yugioh as a whole (except Rush Duel, Sevens and Go Rush) is primarily for teen audiences. Remember, Weekly Shonen Jump is primarily for teenage boys as confirmed by Hiroyuki Nakano (the recent chief editor). And he even confirmed that the magazine for decades has always been targeted towards 15 to 18 year old males despite how popular it is towards all ages. The Yugioh OCG is advertised for ages 12 and up in Japan. Which is a teen rating by Japan’s standards. And it was advertised that way since 1999. Konami clearly intended the OCG for teen players since development. Unlike the TCG. But that’s due to a whole different circumstance. Which is a whole different subject for another time. Rush Duels is the only card game Konami made and intended for young children. The Duel Monsters to Vrains anime is primarily targeted towards the same target demographic as the OCG as the anime were made to promote the game as the OCG came out in 1999 and the DM anime in 2000. Which also explains why the anime deviates from the manga as it’s trying to stay OCG focused.
Personally, my take is that I want another BBT style movie where the protags representing the major summoning mechanics all get together, or perhaps an animated special or something where they meet and get to know each other.
I like Darkness at the end but I get confused sometimes between what is good and bad in universe between Light of Destruction and Darkness when Darkness is Bad and Light is also bad yet Yubel and I like the way the deck works just even as pure,Yubel is Gentle Darkness so idk also I'd like to have more of a close on what Kazuki Takahashi didn't get to in Season 5 original due to his illness at the time
I think the point is that both light and darkness has the capacity to be a force of good and evil. GX alone has two Darkness, the Gentle Darkness that represent the "good" side, and Darkness/Nightshroud, the one that repressent the "Evil" Darkness.
My hot take: Arc-V should've had protags and DM Characters(come on, Joey uses Thousand Dragon), and also, Yuya and Zuzu shouldn't be the only Yu-boy and Bracelet Girl to survive. And if the other protags exist, it would be neat to see Leo Akaba gets killed by a Yugi Mind Crush
Since people drop takes, here, I'm gonna also do that. Not all of them are hot. - Yu-gi-oh season 0 style show (multiple games instead of only card game) in GX/5D's setting would be great. GX season one was close to it, with all random ghosts and spooky places on island, it always reminded me of urban legends we shared at school about abandoned houses or train sation we had nierby. Expand idea even more and instead of fighting those with card games, every paranormal activity has it's own convoluted set of rules to survive, maybe like playground games: tag it, hide and seek etc. About 5D's - gang fights, but they do them in overcomplicated motocycle races. Simple. I dunno if later shows would work with that. -People call 5D's "the darkest yugioh show", but after dark signers arc, show had no idea what it wants to do with itself and became silly until they figured out last arc. I can't see it as more mature than other shows. -Season 2 of VRAINS was weirdly disjointed comparing to rest of the show. It feels like new Star Wars trilogy, where part 8 was written by diffrent person than part 7 and 9. Most characters and all antagonists introduced in season 2 didn't do anything in season 3. Plot about chess figures in SOL Tech was abandoned and Ai being sus was ignored until both were mentioned in season 3. Only thing relevant from season 2 to season 3 was Ignises deletion and rest of lost incident victims. Ignises were gone anyway, so only difference is that viewer has more emotional attachment and Ai is more justified in his villany - there was a foreshadowing Ai was going to be antagonist since begining. Soulburner and Miu aren't very relevant to fight with Ai anyway. -Vanila monsters should be made more relevant and useful in in Yu-gi-oh card game. Now they can only be set-up pieces for old archetypes. Also, I would watch Sevens and Go-Rush if I could find it. Seriously, what streaming service has them?
He quite literally does (Well Atem does) remember the whole heart of the cards stuff? That's literally Atem at least subconsciously manipulating the odds in his favour in order to win. Like dude at the ceremonial duel starts to just playing cards without even looking at them and the whole cast notices it.
@diegomedina9637 Every duelist can do this though provided they have a strong enough bond with their deck. This is why the term "Trust in the Heart of the Cards" is said so much, they aren't just talking out their ass this is a technique every duelist can do, Atem is just better at it than most. Example. Kaiba does this in Duelist Kingdom during his duel with Pegasus, he willingly discards his entire hand and then top decks Blue Eyes by the power of his own will. Joey does this when he duels Esperoba, during the final turn he top decks Roulette Spider and immediately wins the duel. There's several more examples for both of them but the point is clear, EVERY duelist can do this, Atem is just better at it. And I'd rather there at least be an in lore explanation instead of other protagonists (Yusei) just winning all the time for no reason. He doesn't have an official loss the entire series except for a flashback, and the one time he would have lost against Kalin in season 2 it's interrupted when he crashes his bike and so no winner is declared, hence why he isn't swallowed by the shadows.
You want a hot take? The Waking the Dragons arc sucks! I know they had to come out with different forms for Yugi and Atem to loose without actually loosing but that Duel with Rafael was just bad. Its like they literally flipped the characters and Rafael was the main character while Yugi and Atem were just the random duelist of the week the main character had to beat... Speaking of Rafael! Rafael: I'm back! The pharaoh saved me from my darkness! Dartz: No he didn't! Rafael: I guess he didn't. Understandable, have a good day everybody! *Gets taken by the seal out of nowhere*
I am not sure if this is an Hot Take, but I think the 5d manga is terrible the plot of yusei trying to save his little friend was boring and the way it treated leo, luna and akiza was disrespectful and while Akiza was treated a bit better at the start of the manga the fact that it made her lose to Yusei little friend was just stupid and Leo and Luna were given this big tragic backstory in the manga, though the manga writer did nothing with them other then treating their role in the manga as a joke and the fact that yusei friend is given an upgrade to his Duel dragon over Leo , luna and Akiza was just stupid since they deserve an upgrade to their duel dragons a lot more
@@doctormayuri2582 i mean Aki was treated horribly in the anime as well. Like her only notable 1v1 win in the second half is against the biggest jobber of the anime. She always sucked, sadly.
Imagine a world without Link monsters. Like dude how many of those are you going to toss in other to link it up with another card you spent half the 30 minutes turn linking to it?
My fellings about gx is that it dosen't take it's world seriously Duel monsters atelast pretends that it is grounded in season 0 like setting or something losely resambling real world Cards are fasade for world threating stakes rather than solution followed by shadow games If yougioh gx would focus on it it would smack insteed of being silly goofy as it is Also yugi still cheats becouse this is what hearth of the cards of yami isXD I think there was canonical confirmation
2:25 this just seems like an arbitrary point. They're still using dark magic and lethal challenges. Why does it matter that the medium is card games? Take away the game aspects and put them in a fantasy world like Falsebound Kingdom, is it measurably different? No.
@@alphamarigi We're talking about the Anime here which means the Manga doesn't matter to the conversation at all, and we never got Season 0 outside of Japan so it doesn't really count either.
Crow the forgettable replacement signer, izayoi aki has more character development then most yugioh characters this includes crow hes shows up out of nowhere and is very useless
Hell ya my boy yusei dont need to lose no duels any other main protagonists that lost a duel is a lame honestly he my favorite protagonists because his personality but also because he didn't lose inhad enough of jaden losing that i didn't like my protagonists losing really in yugioh anyways i don't care what you say i dont like a protagonists that keep losing thats really why i didn't like gx he lost way to much
1:35 *Slowly puts away gun and vanishes into the shadows* 1:45 It would be, but it's realistically never going to happen. I can basically see the outline of an extended Toei anime remake(Almost all of its mainplot was made up/majorly rewritten and never in the manga as-is, which is why I think it is a good basis for a what-if that majorly deviates from the source material even more than DM) form, especially the theoretical context of the ceremonial game. The concept argubly even has potential to go beyond the classic era because I see the hook in some of the originally Master Duel sequels. For example 5DS is basically made for it with the whole "motorbike illegal games" basis that some of the series tackles already, GX could have a diffrent take on the whole "Judai has hidden darkness to him" angle and Vrains has the whole undercover hacker idea to it. Can't get a pulse on what the basic entrypoint for a "diffrent and more conventially dark" rewrite for Zexal or ArcV could be tho, maybe someone can help me out there. 2:54 Yami is a rules lawyer, not a cheater. It is still amazing how people keep bringing up the dragon flute when that was Seto reading his own card wrong in the original japanese manga(Players messing up the rulings is canonical, yes) and both Studio Gallop aswell as the Viz manga localization messed it up by drawing the OCG/TCG effect onto the thing. If Yami's move was illegal and the dueling system let it pass accidentially, Seto could have just DQ'ed him for cheating on the spot, it was his tournament. 3:53 She really was wasted that much, huh? And it still stings that they decided to ruin the perfect ending to her brother's personal arc literally after they already showed us said perfect ending.(I still hate Season 4) 5:37 I gave it a chance and slid off its surface because it couldn't commit to stakes in any of the episodes I watched besides the first one(Which is a good episode). And no, "stakes" does not mean anything life threatening or world ending, it can also mean that if they are dueling for who gets the gum is actually the only one getting the gum(I for some reason really like the gum-example when explaining my issue with how Sevens' early episodes lacked conflict which leads to people not continuing). The way Sevens was written, either nobody got the gum or everyone got the gum with barely anything missed if one skipped the duel itself. I actually really like Rush dueling, but I know that the day I return to the anime(I just have that weird feeling that I eventually will, if only to have eventually watched all animated YGO content) will not be a fun one. 7:06 Season 4 did suck(It had good moments, but overall it's a miss), but I will never understand the second take personally, especially because it is generally not thrown against BBT when it essencially does the same thing, just in a coop duel rather than a 1v1. In-narrative, it does no damage because it takes place before said duel(Maybe, kinda. It is weird, there is a reason why dream theory is a thing. Judai even notes that his arrival stopped time for some reason, which is so incredibly random and never really explained). Out of narrative, idk why it is supposed to be damaging because the thematic of the story of letting go of the past never extended to the viewer in that way. Heck, I can see why people go against DSoD for this, but why GX Season 4? 8:00 I wouldn't say Yusei "lost his value as a character", but whoever wrote this is 110% spot on. They took the "king of games never loses!" from the original manga way too literally with him(The manga didn't even take it that literally with Yami. He still timed out against Pegasus and lost to Yugi). He was only allowed to "officially lose" in flashbacks, which is meh and the one time he did actually lose, it was seemingly not put on his record because his runner broke. (The runner breaking is an entirely fine out because otherwise he would have been dragged to literal heck, but it still should have been treated as a loss proper, possibly similar to how Yami's loss in DM Season 4 was handled. Heck, many people pointed out that ANY reasonable competitive sport *will* actually count such a thing against your record because it was your responsibility that your equipment is working) And unlike Yusaku, the plot doesn't even justify him because there are some duels where he not only would have been fine and dandy with a loss, but the plot actually would have worked better with one. 10:37 I still think Links do not fit into the design space of the other "new mechanics". Like, if you think about it, every added major mechanic after Fusion interacted with levels in some new way...but Links don't, they instead created a completely new "Link counter" and don't care about Levels besides being a possible secondary condition for the summon. And heck, they got me, I personally cannot think of any way to redesign Links without stealing stuff from the other post-fusion extra deck card types. The designspace is completed as far as I can tell, we just didn't need a new card type after Pendulum(We didn't even need Pendulum, but at least they fit into how the game had been evolved since the addition of Rituals and Tributes).
I think with the first one I agree because Yubel and Sartorius could’ve absolutely still been in the show and kept the same general premise while sticking with the original theme and we can just kick darkness out. And my hot take is that Arc-V was the best series easily
My hot take is that the Yugioh Anime should have ended at 5d’s. Dark Side of Dimensions and Zexal would have been a lot more appreciated if it was a comeback and not just another entry.
Everyone's posting their hot takes, so here's some of mine. - I want the mythological elements back in the franchise. I honestly do not care for any series past 5Ds, because they lack them. Nor do I have any inkling to check them out. - One of the writing problems with at least the original three series is that they suffered from character bloat. Instead of writing useless characters out of the series or killing them off, they kept them around to be the cheer squad. I think that factor alone could explain why characters like Alexis didn't get enough moments to shine. The writers couldn't flesh them all out. GX was the worst for this. (Though, to be fair, a lot of shonen anime from the 90s and 2000s were like this as well.) - Connecting to the above point, but Tristan and Tea should've gotten the Miho treatment and should've not been added in the first place. They do next to nothing in the DM era and don't connect to the ancient Egypt shit, so why have them tag along all the time? Duke should've left after his mini arc was done as well. - I think there should've been modern versions of Mana, Mahad and Kisara in modern times. They would've contributed to the plot more and tie back into the bigger picture better.
Its not, the show was kinda of a production mess and most characters sucked. Only 3 or 4 characters had decent treatment. Its middle of the road in term of quality. Sevens and Zexal are objectively the best. They stay consistent in their setting and themes to the end.
EVERYONE wanted the ceremonial duel
100% agree that GX should have been more of a slice of life series.
The reason why Jaden won most of the duels was because most people he dueled had awful decks that would take a miracle to win. Also. There should be more duels like the maze.

8/10 seems very generous considering how the majority of the cast were treated.
Yugioh Zexal is one of the most underrated animes of all time. Yuma, Shark, Kite and Astral are the four horseman of great characters.

I miss the anime mixing and matching cards that just so happens to work together. Or are just good enough to help out the rest of the deck.
3:44 Thank you!!! I'm so sick of hearing this, I don't care if you like Kaiba or Joey more, Yugi does not cheat!
Imo even if they agree non politely, you should let em comment, it helps you out it in the algorithm
Still no new show announcement...
10:41 link is synchro but simplified to not require a tuner
Links broke the game but not in a good way
You want a hot take? The Waking the Dragons arc sucks! I know they had to come out with different forms for Yugi and Atem to loose without actually loosing but that Duel with Rafael was just bad. Its like they literally flipped the characters and Rafael was the main character while Yugi and Atem were just the random duelist of the week the main character had to beat... Speaking of Rafael!
Rafael: I'm back! The pharaoh saved me from my darkness!
Dartz: No he didn't!
Rafael: I guess he didn't. Understandable, have a good day everybody! *Gets taken by the seal out of nowhere*
Heart of the cards
Does anyone want to throw down in the master duel?
yes its a card game and thats why its called an anime
thanks king
Wow imagine a world without synchro monsters
Cool, can't wait to link summon appolousa, dagda and verte to cheat fusion dpe pop scythe to stop the opponent from playing
Imagine a world without Link monsters. Like dude how many of those are you going to toss in other to link it up with another card you spent half the 30 minutes turn linking to it?
My fellings about gx is that it dosen't take it's world seriously
Duel monsters atelast pretends that it is grounded in season 0 like setting or something losely resambling real world
Cards are fasade for world threating stakes rather than solution followed by shadow games
If yougioh gx would focus on it it would smack insteed of being silly goofy as it is
Also yugi still cheats becouse this is what hearth of the cards of yami isXD
I think there was canonical confirmation
... arc v ending was both rushed
Wym both?
@MysticFactorG-ODO i was going to say frustrating and didn't make sense but then I did something else and forgot
That's what happens when you take most of the crew off it to work on a movie. 😞
hot take: zexal has 2nd best plot and arc v has THE BEST plot and jaiden is better as a fun loving teen than edgy adult
10:36 rituals wouldn't have fit thematically in 5Ds
Banning OSS was dumb
Arc v action duels were innovative but they ruined zarc aka the final boss
2:25 this just seems like an arbitrary point. They're still using dark magic and lethal challenges. Why does it matter that the medium is card games? Take away the game aspects and put them in a fantasy world like Falsebound Kingdom, is it measurably different? No.
I hated yubel since she reminded me of someones fanfiction oc couple
3:03 most anime characters would be low tier duelist because these people SUCK at this game
Honda kinda mattered in Death T
Yeah but we didn't really get Deaths T.
@diegomedina9637 read the manga or watch the Toei series
@@alphamarigi We're talking about the Anime here which means the Manga doesn't matter to the conversation at all, and we never got Season 0 outside of Japan so it doesn't really count either.
Crow is a way batter character than Akiza ever was
Crow the forgettable replacement signer, izayoi aki has more character development then most yugioh characters this includes crow hes shows up out of nowhere and is very useless
Hell ya my boy yusei dont need to lose no duels any other main protagonists that lost a duel is a lame honestly he my favorite protagonists because his personality but also because he didn't lose inhad enough of jaden losing that i didn't like my protagonists losing really in yugioh anyways i don't care what you say i dont like a protagonists that keep losing thats really why i didn't like gx he lost way to much
1:35 *Slowly puts away gun and vanishes into the shadows*
1:45 It would be, but it's realistically never going to happen.
And it still stings that they decided to ruin the perfect ending to her brother's personal arc literally after they already showed us said perfect ending.(I still hate Season 4)
5:37 I gave it a chance and slid off its surface because it couldn't commit to stakes in any of the episodes I watched besides the first one(Which is a good episode).
Zexal is better than 5ds so i disagree.
(Though, to be fair, a lot of shonen anime from the 90s and 2000s were like this as well.)
- Connecting to the above point, but Tristan and Tea should've gotten the Miho treatment and should've not been added in the first place.
Yugioh Vrains is objectively the best yugioh show
objectively super ass
@ you are 11 lmao
@@tvojamama4888 x2
You are a brave man. 🫡
Its not, the show was kinda of a production mess and most characters sucked. Only 3 or 4 characters had decent treatment. Its middle of the road in term of quality. Sevens and Zexal are objectively the best. They stay consistent in their setting and themes to the end.
So glad you said this! I'm so tired of people saying yugi was cheating! Damn that crap burns me up!
Hmm…
Well it's not like everyone else wasn't doing it. 🤷♂️
