What a treat! If you are fortunate enough to have been around when this was made, you will know that this high level of television was more or less expected. Im so grateful for those responsible for safeguarding the existence of films from the past! It's no wonder that I seek these out, given the current rubbish churned out today. Thank you for this gem! 💎
Dudley Foster was an accomplished actor with a prolific output on 1960's television especially. Greatly underrated. With acute pronunciation that today's overrated serial actors might heed and learn from.
Have really enjoyed this. I love dramas from when they used to make programmes that everybody could watch and enjoy and understand the plot! Please keep them coming. Love Classic British Telly. Wish someone could find Something in Disguise from 1981.
Thanks for this entertaining mini series. I've never seen John Thaw so young. Big Morse fan and big Francis Durbridge (Paul Temple) fan watching from the U.S.
Perfect! A superb ending and a little smile at the very end I kept checking throughout the day to see if this installment had posted yet! Can't remember the last time I was so anxious to see the next episode! I will remember this for a long time! Bravo!
Wow! What a roller coaster! So many twists and turns! All day looking forward to the last episode it didn't disappoint! I haven't felt that level of TV excitement since waiting for the next episode of Dr Who on Saturday evenings back in the '60s and '70s! Thank you again. Wouldn't that make a great West End play adaptation!
@@ClassicBritishTellyhey up mate I'm not so sure I bumped into the first one this afternoon then looked to your channel so got to watch all this wonderful series, thank you very much for showing this
Gripping stuff. I could barely wait for each episode upload. Full of the usual Durbridge twists and turns, and John Thaw with a posh accent. More please
Enthralling. Like everybody else, I was looking out for the latest episode each evening. And completely ridiculous, of course. I couldn't make head or tail of the last-episode revelations. Doubtless I'll be able to piece together a few fragments when I'm trying to get to sleep tonight. Dudley Foster's Inspector Clay was my favourite character - marvellously sinister.
Excellent! Thanks so much for the time and effort to share this most entertaining and suspenseful drama. Very much appreciated❤️ We don’t have TV shows like this in the States anymore.❤️We have lots of CSI lol
Wonderful storytelling, I just finished watching the whole mini series and I didn't get up not even once. To say the truth I wanted more, thank you, for the posting of such great TV series. I, also enjoy the comedies you uploaded and I only discovered your channel this week. Keep up the good work. 👋😎👍
A wife and a mistress both with similar names? Interesting. Well, my first guess was right but not the motive. I thought he wanted Diana for himself. This definitely was much more of a gripping drama than his other works. Thanks for posting this series. Cheers!
John Thaw looking much older than his 24 years here - but according to his wife, Sheila Hancock, John had a very tough childhood, so that could account for his premature ageing, poor chap. His mother just abandoned him and his younger brother, when John was just 7 years old. Their father was often away, truck driving, and the boys were left to fend for themselves - sometimes they were fed by the neighbours, sometimes they went without. No one bothered about these young lads - not even their teachers at school. A very rough Manchester upbringing - an appalling start to life for poor John, who never forgave his mother. In this series, he is trying extremely hard to sound posh, and to suppress his Mancunian accent, and you can hear the tension in his voice, as he watches every syllable he utters. Even when he played Morse, years later, i could still sense how ill at ease he was doing an upper class accent. He was much more convincing as that cockney ruffian, Jack Reagan, in The Sweeney. Sheila Hancock said he never spoke poshly at home, and was much more like Reagan than Morse, in real life. Unfortunately, just like Reagan, he was also a chain smoker - which killed him far too young. He was a truly talented actor - and we need more actors of his calibre today.
You can tell the importance of Francis Durbrige to the B.B.C. at this time. Look how many different set's were used just for 5 episodes. For Durbridge 5 episodes must have been a walk in the park. He was used to writing a series that would go on for many weeks. Notice how the cast all spoke proper English with well rounded vowel's. We now need an extra episode just to tie up all the loose ends. Cheers, Chris Perry.
Most British people back then spoke regional accents, even quite local ones. The BBC's use of RP in its presenters and dramas could be seen as providing a single understandable speech pattern - or ignoring most of its viewers.
Sorry this was the last episode - I'd have liked it to go on longer! My only disappointment was that the brilliant and beautiful Sylvia Syms had so little screen time in this episode.... an appearance by her at the very end would have rounded off the series to perfecion.
Great entertainment, well acted. Slightly spoilt by the ending, where the hell did the culprit think he was running to, not convincing. Thanks for the upload I really like these 60’s tv dramas/mysteries.
Not sure. I liked 1-4, then the finale got a bit silly, and the overall premise is one of those dreadful MacGuffins, which are always unfulfilling. Thanks very much for the upload, amazing quality too!
Yes wondered how a small provincial garage owner can afford a nearly new E type and to buy a couple of shops . Wonder what happened to the estate agency business, what happened when the Italian girl got the lot.
Sorry, but what about Paxton and his actually shooting the husband...that was never resolved and it seems, by the ending, he and his a more walked off unhappily ,albeit free and not benefitting from their crimes!!!!??? Hasn't anyone ever noticed it!?
Yes, I noticed,. Paxton was murdered by Diana in this episode, so it was moot that he murdered her husband, but she murdered Paxton & that wasn't resolved before it ended.
@@twoshedsglen This has caused more excitement than anything else we've uploaded, from all over the world. So just as a one off we're doing it old school at a set time!

Wait ... I'm confused. I thought handguns were hard to get in Britain yet everybody (except the police) seems to be packing!
Handguns with a licence were legal until the early 1980s.

I'd love to know the brand of the delightful Gladstone briefcase that 'Tall boy' was carrying. Ideas, anyone?
Gladstone TV Bags Ltd.?
Really excellent, and the cinematography was top-notch. I wonder if this was filmed with videotape or actual film?
Exteriors would have been shot on film; the interior scenes were likely on videotape but it’s difficult to say.
Not sure. I liked 1-4, then the finale got a bit silly, and the overall premise is one of those dreadful MacGuffins, which are always unfulfilling. Thanks very much for the upload, amazing quality too!
I guess Francis Durbridge must have read “Murder must Advertise”. The surname Tallboy is quite unusual.
So joyfully innocent❤
Well, I sure hope Diana #2 doesn't share the will now. 🤭
super complicated....they dont make em like this anymore
Wonderful, 1st. Class TV. Series. When entertainment was exactly that😊😊😊
A bit rushed through, silly at times but mostly enjoyable. The choice for the Valesco woman, though, was underwhelming to say the least 😒
Jefferey's murder was unsolved. And how did anyone know Paxton killed Stuart at the mansion and snatched his body ? Unexplained.
Yes wondered how a small provincial garage owner can afford a nearly new E type and to buy a couple of shops .
Wonder what happened to the estate agency business, what happened when the Italian girl got the lot.
