Thank you very much for your clear explanation. I have Ais class B (Garmin) and the AIS 800 have an integrated splitter. Do you recommend to connect a second arrial (to separate vhf and AIs) or can be OK for the use I do to use the splitter and have just one aerial? We use the boat for recreational use and we are not transmitting much with vhf, Ais seems to transmit and receive pretty well and without issues.
Thank you very much for your work

Thank you for your comments. I apologize for the delayed reply. I always recommend using two antennas for best performance when VHF and AIS are not integrated in the same radio. Many external splitters have several dB loss. In your case where maximum range is not key, I recommend our new 4’ AIS/VHF combination antenna model 594-MW and for longer range coverage use model 992-MW (8’ AIS/VHF wideband antenna with cable).

I have a SH gx2400gps/ais. Im looking to use ais to find the "fleet" when offshore fishing. Im currently using a vhf ais antenna. I dont have a splitter. Im looking to recieve ais more then transmit. But im not getting good reception on my vhf. Should i use a splitter and run them separately to my vhf or a longer vhf/ais antenna.

What Antenna would you recommend for a 42’ trawler live aboard in the Florida key?

For AIS on a 42’ Trawler, I recommend a 4’ AIS, either the 578-SW (with cable) or 876-SW (no cable) or for both AIS and VHF you can use our new 4’ AIS/VHF antenna model 594-MW for longer range coverage use model 992-MW (8’ AIS/VHF wideband antenna with cable). Either AIS alone or our AIS/VHF combination antennas are perfect for your installation and today’s combination radios.
