thalassophobia isn't a fear of the creatures, it's fear of the deep water itself. im thalassophobic and the first image terrified me bc u can't see what's in the water but since all the others have creatures visible, i was completely fine with them. for most thalassophobics (not all!) the fear comes from the lack of knowing
yeah, i agree, thalassaphobia is fear of the unknown, specifically in the sea/bodies of water, and seeing the creature isn’t really thalassophobia, because you can see it so it’s more of just the thing itself is terrifying
I misunderstood your comment and re read it even though im not having this phobia at all but i swear im not enjoying and drinking tea for these creepy ass videos it still scares me.
Frfr- my thalassophobia is A LOT worse than other peoples, I can’t even go knee-deep at the beach. People make fun of me for it, it sucks but I genuinely can not go any deeper before scurrying out like a scared mouse.
The reason I have thalassophobia: So when I was in kindergarten, it was the end of swimming class and I saw my friend misbehaving, so like any other kid would do, I went and told the teacher. (The teacher was at the other end of the pool) When I told her what my friend was doing, I was going back to my friend when my friend "accidentally" pushed me in the deep end of the pool. The teacher got me out before I passed out but I could hardly breathe. That very night, I had a dream that my family was rich and me and my dad wanted to go swimming in our private pool, but I saw that in the pool, there were sharks and it seemed like my dad couldn't see them and when he asked me why I wasn't going in, I was nearly crying. Then he pushed me into the pool and the last thing in the dream, was my head getting bitten off by a shark. I've been terrified ever since.
for people who feel more scared of huge things underwater then the correct term for that phobia would be megalohydrothalassophobia, fear of large underwater creatures or objects hope this helps
I am afraid of Ocean , not just what's in it. The first time i heard about Red sea in social studies class , i had to throw away a small red plastic cup because it reminded me of red sea.
Just to let you know, the first one is probably the scariest people who have thalasshophobia because the first one literally does not have an end it's from the pool rooms and if you go down the slide, you're just sinking to the nonexistent bottom of the pool

OMG, me too! I had to reschedule a doctor's appointment because she was taking to long to draw my blood and I was freaking out! I was trying to be an adult about it, but inside I was screaming! It was torture smh
I HAVE THIS AF- Here’s why lol- When I was younger, I went to the beach, and my mom was calling me out for lunch, I just couldn’t hear her because I was UNDERWATER. It sounds like someone was screaming my name for help, so I went deeper and deeper, and I couldn’t swim well then, and then the next thing I know I’m in the hospital, and I was told that if it weren’t for that 15 year old bringing me back to shore, I could have drowned and died.
Lots of people are saying that Thalassophobia is a 'fear of the monsters in the ocean', or smth, but it isn't really that. The only two images that mainly triggers me is the first and second. Thalassophobia is a fear of deep waters, and the reason behind said fear is a fear of the unknown, also usually stemmed behind Nyctophobia (fear of the dark). Most people think that showing a monster in the ocean or a large figure under the water is frightening for Thalassophobes, but it isn't exactly. For Thalassophobes, showing us the monster actually helps with our fear. We are scared of the darkness in the deep water, of not knowing what is underneath. Seeing the monster, however, completely goes against the concept of not knowing what is under the water. If you find that you are afraid of the creatures that are under the water, you may actually have Ichthyphobia (fear of all water creatures, especially fish), or Megalohydrophobia (fear of large aquatic creatures). Hope this helps!
For me it’s the deep emptiness. Where it’s dark and blue, you see nothing below you, nothing around you, it’s just empty deep blue. And the thought of seeing a huge shadow emerge from below you. Terrifying.
Hah but no I am terrified for g anything to do with water and I cry, shake, hyperventilate, tense up, close my eyes and have fainted. Btw I’m not scared of drinking water
@@WillowDragons3AmberFlamePryo8exactly the same for me! i can't stand people who try to pass off our actual fears as "fear of the scary creatures" might be the case for them, NOT us. im scared of the depth, darkness and vastness of ocean
I was using my younger brother VR once (I was alone with my dad asleep upstairs) I wanted to try out those 360 videos on TH-cam and wanted to try some underwater ones. Anyways in one of the videos you would start to slowly descend into the depths of the ocean (I saw a Kyogre which was fun) near the end of the video I was at a sunken pirate ship and I saw something swim away into the foggy water. I was there for about a minute with nothing happening so I looked behind me to make sure nothing was coming only to turn around and be met with the massive jaws of a serpent or something. I remember my whole body flinching. I was breathing heavily and my heart was pounding in fear I removed the VR and took some deep breaths to help calm myself down. That was the most frightened I’ve been in a while.
I am pretty confirmed that I have this phobia, but for others who also have it I hope this helps a little: most art of sea monsters (like cthulu or the kraken) they are so huge that the food they need to eat to keep itself alive is nearly impossible. So even if it existed it would be extinct.
But Cthulhu is a cosmic entity/god, it doesn’t need to eat food, also it drives anyone who looks at it mad with insanity. For me, the kraken is not at all scary compared to Cthulhu
I've thalassophobia AF, I had several nightmares during my childhood with the first and last scenarios.
