- ☞ 👀 We really wanted to visit San Francisco but had the same concerns we hear on the news. Is San Francisco safe? It was a real question that we pondered on visiting. We hope this video encourages you to visit this historic city. We are looking forward to adding some other areas to see when we return in the future. #Alcatraz was on my bucket list when visiting #SanFrancisco and we are so happy we had the opportunity to tour.

Went there in April of '68 with a friend who was from there, for 3 day weekend.

I enjoy watching your videos. Especially places we have been. Our first trip to Alcatraz our daughter was in a stroller. As we listened to the headphones never did it dawn on us that she had NO headphones or could understand what we had been doing. It was until we came home for our vacation and watched our video this poor girls sat in the stroller with TOTAL silence. The other freaky part of the visit was watching our little girl run around the ball field in the courtyard. The same yard killers had been playing ball in or fighting each other. Talk about craziness. We visit the island every time we go back. Some of our family lives in Sacramento.

I was in the u.s park service on alcatraz island 94-2018 and still work on the old fire truck that's there from time to time now when I was working there we had the youngest swimmer at age 7 make it back to San Francisco with a wet suit with boats watching him. Also the oldest guy at 80 with a wet suit. But not everyone uses one to get across.the tide stops every six hour for one hour then they swim across back to San Francisco thanks!

Moving your truck up won’t prevent you from being ticketed you got lucky. the City has been trying to improve the Tenderloin for decades it’s just lip service. Going in City Hall is worth the visit it’s beautiful but keep in mind you have to pass through the Sheriffs TSA type check point.
Hey I hope your all good and happy , I don't even know how I ended up watching your video, but being born and in the city I started watching, you guys r good, and than you for being so honest when crime here allot tubers have dumped on this place but you didn't unfortunetlly poo poo anywhere in public has become a reality to a few who have migrated here and it's not uncommon walk out the door to meet your new tent neighbor

First time watching you guys just because I'm an SF native and realize how much paranoia FOX news and so much media puts out about my city. We all need to do more to get people the help needed. Not a hand-out but a hand-up in a compassionate way. You two are my new "Odd Couple" what a kick your banter is, and I can't wait to view more of your blogs. I'm from the Philippines and immigrated to the United States when I was one year old (75 years ago). I've lived all my life is the SF Bay Area except I worked for over a year in a small town in Iowa (Fort Madison). What I love about America is it's diversity (especially in SF) and freedom of speech. What I fear about America is our growing political divide. We need more "ODD COUPLES" like you two to get us through. Thanks for you candor and sense of adventure and positive attitudes.

My daughter and I visited there about 5 years ago while on a mother/daughter trip
We really enjoyed it. We flew there, rented a car, stayed in a hotel. We walked most everywhere and used the transit. Very friendly people, whenever we had our city map out someone always stopped to ask us where we were trying to get to and almost always gave us pointers to maybe make our navigation of their city less intimidating. So many things to see and do! I want to go back with my hubby using our truck & 5th wheel. Have FUN!
What a wonderful video of San Francisco. Thank you once again for letting us "travel" with you. Like Todd, I am also very cautious, maybe more nervous, in big cities especially when traveling. I think that is due to living in a small town in Kansas. Can't wait to see your next adventure.

Your videos are so great. When I was a child we went to San Francisco every spring break. We did fisherman’s wharf. Cable cars. Nob hill. So much history there.

Scott and I have been to San Fran twice - we loved it - our favorite experiences were the Alcatraz tour, biking over the Golden Gate Bridge and the Ghiradelli Tour (especially the sundae at the end). Glad you guys had a great time!

I’ve never done the bus tours I think I will next time. For the past 30 years I’ve been going to San Francisco for doctors appointments and all my cars have survived. I’m glad your truck stayed safe too. Great video.
I think people erroneously assume that the homelessness, income disparity, and drug use is something that the city of SF welcomes. But rather these issues are more of a symptom of the entire nation’s problems. Not just SF, not just California, but everywhere. SF (and other big cities) are just where they flock to because they, too, are looking for a community, services, and help. I get that people who don’t live in a big city like to believe that they aren’t involved in the issues since they are very disconnected from it. However, if you stopped to ask any of these homeless folks where they’re from, you’ll find that they are from everywhere. And just because they came from someplace that wasn’t (or couldn’t) going to help them, they have at least been welcomed with compassion into another city.
I believe that society in general needs to be more compassionate. The drug, homeless, and income disparity are problems we are all, unfortunately, connected to. We should remember that homeless people and drug addicts are all people and shouldn’t just be thrown away. Even by the way we talk about them (even in this comments section) as an inconvenience rather than as people who need help.
With that said, I believe people are so polarized by their politics and where they consume their information/news that the knee-jerk reaction to SF is of disdain. It’s sad because SF is one of America’s most beautiful cities with such a rich history. Thank you for giving it a chance and hope you return again!

We were in San Fran at Alcatraz on June 23rd.....did y'all check out the Indian exhibit on the island? We had no idea of any of that history.
It was very interesting- we have learned so much by just getting out and touring. Now we often mess up dates, names etc and Lord knows it’s not all being retained but dang it sure is fun!

Haven't been there in years but when I did travel there it was in a semi and I wasn't site seeing.
I hated the traffic, crime rate, prices back then. But as you convinced me to open my mind , relax, and how bad could it be, you have me wanting to go back and site see.
Honestly there is so much to do there it's crazy.
But not to put a damper on things it is still a little pricy.

Haight & Ashbury and Yesterday all my problems seemed so far away...don't forget the flower in your hair when in San Francisco. It's truly the best City in America today. It was fantastic growing up in and experiencing all the city offers, ethnic groups from all over the world lived in San Francisco and never a dull moment with so much to see and do with in city's life style. I hope the government cleans up the crimes and poo 💩

Well Todd, you and Billy need to work on that escape plan! Don't think knocking out the guy's tooth will disable him much! LOL! I will tell you that Billy is pretty cautious too. He always says "keep your head on a swivel" Both of us felt the same way you did when we visited Seattle in 2019 because no matter what happens we always seem to end up in the "best" part of town. Your assumptions about California drivers at the very beginning of the video are very accurate. As a truck driver if I pull off on the shoulder in California I basically have to force my way back onto the road.
I lived in SF / Alameda area. Everyday on the Oakland Bay Bridge bumper to bumper, door to door. 75-80+mph!!! After a couple weeks of driving in rush hour traffic it was no big deal. That was 50 years ago!! I can't image the traffic nowdays!

I've always felt like I wanted to go and I wanted to go see Alcatraz all that stuff. But watching you go to all those places I was just like "why do I want to go see that"?? Why have I always felt "I need to go there"! Like it's “ you're supposed to do”
So it was on our list but no longer is.
My eyes are opening to what I truly care about seeing and doing rather than what I have been conditioned to care about.

It’s a mistake to leave anything in your car in the City it doesn’t matter what the value is it makes your car a target, visit Central Police Station near the Wharf there will be a line of car break in victims. The City has well deserved bad press for crime and filth, the filth is mostly confined to an area. The City and the surrounding is still beautiful and worth a visit. Born and raised.
We did enjoy the city- I really wanted to stop and see city hall but that seemed to be the main concentration of the yuck the day we were there anyway. We got out without any incidents at all. We appreciate you taking the time to watch and comment.
San Francisco has the worst automobile breaking in the country. Don't leave anything visible in you automobile. If you put something in your trunk just try not to let people see you doing that well at least where you are going to park. But for most part it's safe. 6st Market St and Tenderloin district are crackhead village! Not too safe but I personally never had a problem in those area and I been in SF 40 years.

Wow! I've been to San Francisco many times, but not for over 20 years. I cannot believe how deserted it was! Shocking to me. Never visited Alcatraz so thanks for sharing that. Creepy place. Todd you need an escape plan B that accounts for cold water, deadly currents, and sharks! Golden Gate Park is fantastic so you do need to go back. Glad you had fun!

We love San Fransisco. We use to go there annually until the world got so crazy. We do love the hop on hop off bus tours. It it the cheapest method of transportation in the cities.
Layla bed in the area from 1984-1990. Our base was involved in the Golden Gate’s 50th anniversary. We were the bridge guards, in case anyone wanted to throw themselves over. Lovely thought.

When I saw the buses I thought oh no, they don’t have the trolley cars anymore? Because that has been on my original bucket list to ride the old San Francisco street car like in the movies. I think it always pays to be alert because things happen so fast. So glad everything worked out great for your visit there and that you were able to see Alcatraz.
Yes, they still have cable cars, trolleys, electric busses, BART, train, and about any mode of transportation you can imagine.

I was born in San Francisco. Presidio Military base. It's no longer there.

Glad you enjoyed you time in SF. We used to live just south of "The City" and would go often. Since moving away from CA our trips to SF have become less frequent and on our last trip we vowed to never return. There was filth everywhere, and when I say filth I mean disgusting filth. Needles, human waste, trash everywhere... those are things you don't want to see and shouldn't have to. We never felt safe at all. What was once a great experience has turned into a nightmare. Glad you enjoyed it but we'll never return.

same here !! I went there 5 years ago. Went with my son and his wife on a business trip.. I actually saw a man defecate on the street. Urine was everywhere. Junkies passed out, with needles in their arms.....never again
Glad you had a good visit to San Francisco. We've been there many times and think it's a great city, never had any problems. Haven't been there in 5+ years though. So many things you need to go back and see. Check out the cable car museum, it's sort of like trains, you like trains right?
The out of control thefts are real in SF.

It kind of sad what’s going on in SF. We haven’t been back in 5 years. Alcatraz was pretty interesting.
Such a nice place to visit for a short while (We are not big city people) generally felt very safe other than see alot of homeless that do try to hassle you if you let them. Alcatraz was the highlight for me, we have done the sunset and the day trips. Sunset/dark the place takes on a far different feeling.
My wife and I have been to San Francisco several times. We love the weather, buildings and the water. But when it rains it smells like a urinal, homeless people poop in the middle of a sidewalk and horrible traffic.

I went there 10 years ago and enjoyed it a lot, great city. It's a shame what it has become in the last few years.

Been to S.F. twice. The Alcatraz tour has been shortened. Too bad because they left out a lot of good stuff. Our one mistake was allowing google maps to get us back home and it took us straight thru the Tenderloin district at night. Crazy!

Where did you stay? We used to camp at a park in Pacifica where the last row against the ocean collapsed and is no longer there. Just wondering if it was the same park. Glad you had fun and that Shrek was ok!

I grew up 90 minutes from San Fran. There’s NO WAY I would go back there anytime soon. I’ve heard too many stories- break-in’s are legal. ✋🏼 🛑
