  • For those looking for alternatives to the 59Fifty, is there a possible answer in the return of the 9Forty K and A-Frame caps? I picked up two from Culture Kings, and here's a review.

    These are everywhere here in Australia, I see far more A frames than 59Fifties. I buy from Culture Kings regularly too, huge range and frequent sales, nice to see them getting some love in the States.

      The A-Frames are cool caps. I love the fact that it is higher profile 9FORTY cap. I wish we had more of them in the United States.

    I only have one 9FORTY A-Frame cap. It has a deeper fit than the traditional 9FORTY. I like the 9FORTY A-Frame a lot and it feels good on my head, but I much prefer the regular 9FORTY.

    I went to the traditional 9Forty cap some years ago, due to the frustration of size variation when ordering online. The traditional 9Forty has six panels, wool content and Velcro closure. They are more of a mid crown shape and look and fit like a 59Fifty imo. 47 brand has a similar cap but they are harder to find.

    Just got the same cap, love the fit a little better than the regular 5950 however, I do prefer the sweat resistant versions than the regular as they hug your head like a sock, fitted and snap back’d.
    Overall, I would consider this a 47’ish fit but better.
    Been wearing this for the last couple of days, I get compliments all day long!

    On the whole the caps look nice. Being a Nets fan- and the creator of NetsCapOfTheDay 😁- that cap was of particular interest to me. Your video raises an issue I have. The caps are 9Fortys, but the conventional 9Forty features a velcro adjuster. I’m curious why New Era doesn’t designate these strap-adjusted caps with a distinct classification: 9FortyNine? The 4Ninety? 59Forty? If it’s not the adjuster then what is the distinguishing feature of a 9Forty that these caps have in common? Rhetorically speaking of course.

    • @dreinthe616
      @dreinthe616  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good callout - I've now seen 9Forty caps with velcro, snap, and now buckle adjustments... it is very inconsistent, and I wonder if CultureKings drove the more 'bespoke' design on this set of caps. Other 9Forty A and K frames they sell have different adjustments than these suede models. Thanks for the comments!

    • @ethane-dawgwenger4207
      @ethane-dawgwenger4207 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm with you there. I hate the strapback adjustment in baseball caps. It's hard to try to adjust it to my size it when I am trying to strap it in place when I can't even see what I am doing. It's ridiculous. I do own dad hats for the comfort, but trying to adjust them is a challenge. Just like Doug said, I have seen velcrobacks and snapbacks in the 9FORTY. I almost never see 9FORTYs with strapbacks. They really should stick to just one adjustment.

    I have never see that kind of adjustment in baseball caps. It looks like the kind of adjustment you'd see on a wrist watch. I thought all of the 9FORTY A-Frames had snapback adjustments.

    Culture Kings makes some really dope looking hats. But unfortunately I only like low profile crowns on me so these are a no go due to the higher crown shape. Wish they made low profiles like these

    Off topic question but Is there a difference between the on field cap 59fifty and the genuine merchandise 59fifty ?

    • @dreinthe616
      @dreinthe616  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      In one way, yes - I believe the Genuine Merchandise tag can appear in any 59Fifty, but On-Field 59Fifty caps are only the designs in current use by MLB teams. They used to call anything outside of the On-Fields a "Fashion Cap" 59Fifty.

    Hi, Doug. This pro MBL player tells several hat steps he uses, but I’ve never heard of what he says about cutting the buckram, have you? Does it work? I paste the TH-cam comment under here. Thank you.

    • @dreinthe616
      @dreinthe616  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, some cap wearers do try to cut and peel away the buckram from the front two panels... but only if they want an "unstructured" crown. It's a little risky to get it started, but it can be peeled in sections - I've never done it except when tearing a cap down to analyze construction, because I like the structured crown. Thanks for the question.

    • @Burps___
      @Burps___ 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@dreinthe616 I see, unstructured sounds like low-profile “Dad caps” like one would attach fishing lures to. 🎣 I’d not like that either. Thanks, Doug, for your reply. (If you ever get a cap you dislike or doesn’t fit right, it’d make a great video to watch you slash away the buckram on purpose…interesting). Peace ✌🏻

    Great review as usual. Safe to say I will completely avoid those hats. Don’t like how high they come, don’t like that adjustment strap. I do understand the looking for something new though, New era has lost their mind with the costs of fitteds these days, blows my mind people are paying $50 or more for a baseball hat

    • @dreinthe616
      @dreinthe616  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yep, for sure on prices... and I'll probably give a regular A-Frame one more chance, but the ones I reviewed here look way better on the shelf than on my head, thanks for the comments.

    Doug, I don't know about you, but I am beginning to see 9FORTY A-Frames at my local Lid's. I'm so excited about it. The A-Frame is such an awesome hat for me as I am a big fan of the 9FORTY. Just like the ones I have seen on Culture Kings, they are the same team insignias (Dodgers, Yankees, and Red Sox), and I am not that happy about it, speaking as a Phillies fan and wanting a Phillies A-Frame. I just don't get why New Era just keeps making 9FORTY A-Frame hats with the same team insignias instead of all 30 teams. It's so boring.

    • @dreinthe616
      @dreinthe616  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I think they are trying to build the market, and with increased interest there will be more teams. My local Lids stores hardly have any at all yet, but I'm hoping that picks up soon. You may also be interested in the '47 Hitch, which has the same pinched front crown and is gaining popularity, thanks.

    • @dreinthe616
      @dreinthe616  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Actually wouldn’t recommend a hat jack for any 39Thirty - you would be stretching the materials that are already elastic, so it will last only as long as it’s on the jack… I’d just go next size up L-XL, thanks.

    So the crown on the 9FORTY A-Frame is taller compared to a regular 59FIFTY?
    My A-frame measures from where the hat meets the brim to the pinch crown is about 3.25 inches. How does that measure against a regular 59FIFTY?
    I've been thinking of getting my first fitted but was worried about the crown height

    • @dreinthe616
      @dreinthe616  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That's not what I found - I don't believe either of the caps I tried on was truly an A-Frame, even if the Nets cap said it was one. I think they were both K-Frames, which indicate a High Crown. I bet the measurement you found on your A-Frame is comparable to a 59Fifty, but it's curved there, so difficult to find an exact measure. Plus, there's variation in all New Era caps, so your best bet is to find some to try on at a store, thanks.

    and the crown is ridiculously Big and POINTY Lol it makes my front view look like and egg 🥚 I kid you not … maybe that’s just because the shape of my face and because it was a 47 hat ?…
