I was ground crew at RAF Thorney Island in 1967 when we received the firstC-130's.They were an instant revelation, replacing the struggling Hastings and the ponderous Beverley's. I didn't find them noisy or uncomfortable and servicing them was no problem, the Alison T56 turboprop being one of the great aviation engines; I know; I took them apart and rebuilt them many times over 12 years. The C-130......the best aircraft the RAF ever had.....and still has!
We, the Ground Crew, received the C-130 at RAF Thorney Island in 1967....it was a revelation; compared to the plodding Beverley and the pedestrian Hastings. Compared to those two aircraft, it was not noisy, it was not uncomfortable, ( ingenuity saw to that) and it was child's play to service, compared to the old timers mentioned. In fact it took 18 months before the Herc as it was known, ( not Fat Albert ), actually began to require service. I did 370 flying hours in the freight bay, no sweat. The Alison T56-A-15 is one of the best turbo props ever built.
