First of All, he's like the manager telling the employees what to do, so i don't see anything wrong with that... That's a system that we see here on a daily bases in North America or Europe but why are people from these regions complaining the most when other parts of the world runs by a similar system??... Also, culturally speaking, Japanese are perfectionist, they are very detailed oriented... That is why customers don't mind paying extra bucks when products states "Made in Japan"...
I have knives and some other kitchen items that my grandparents bought while over there after WW2. They are better than anything you can buy today and range from 75 to 85 years old.
I'm telling you; we need a small enough go pro on one of those tetras , as it explores the aquascape!

Amano knows to sell his stuff, nothing more. Like Heineken and Coca Cola. That guy is way over estimated, some rich friends and bloob he get famous. Come on! A aquarium suppose to be a biotope in your house for the animals you put in and that feel happy, like in nature. The last thing he is thinking about are the fish. For me, a poor guy... Lost the idea completely...
an aquarium is not 'supposed' to be anything. it's whatever you want it to be. for him, it is art and the fish are strokes of brilliant paint. to each his own. he is known for a reason - he does this better than anyone.
I'm surprised the Japanese haven't yet invented a remotely controlled robot arm to do the planting. Incorporate 3d scanning and CAD, the plants could be planted like 3D printing
It’s the journey, not the destination.
I like the small fish in the tank. It makes you look closer into the scenery so you can really enjoy it and the fish.

I think one massive school of one type of fish would of looked better then lots of different fish but the tank is amazing
So amazing,....the rocks, plants and fish created such a peaceful environment. The Japanese, hands down, are the masters of aqua-scaping fresh water....but Germans are still the king of salt water reef tanks....
Amazing aquarium. The live plants make a big difference and the fish do behave more naturally.
ADA products r vv good nd geniune but Ur products vvvvvv expencive so normal people nd middle class peoples can afford so most of them quit this kind good hobbys

It is for Mr. Amano considering he's built a very lucrative business around aquascaping aquariums and selling supplies. There are companies in the U.S. and all over the world that will setup planted tanks and reefs for you so, yes, this is a profession.
So the guy that gets all the credit does nothing but dictate what he wants done sound great like our government.

I'm curious, do these folks dose with Co2? What kind of filtration do they have? Water changes frequently?
+Arthur Grande They use a surface skimmer filter that leads to a sump. They don't really need to dose co2 because they put powders and mixtures under the aqua soil. Also, ADA aqua soil is good enough to get the plants to grow.

Not really, let the livestock do the interior cleaning, since it's such a massive tank it probably has automated water changes, maintenance would really just be feeding the fish and trimming the plants for the most part.

Lol be. He went from 6 month time to 3 month time. Sometimes these so called experts be saying same fake stuff. I don’t think are botanist. They hobbyist with experience opinions. I can already imagine 4 inch growth on bottom and then overwhelming after that.

The downsides of this is- those small fish have very short lifespans,and zero personality. You could just as easy at much lower cost do this with landplants if want something quiet to look at after work.

I know I'm a little late..but I just got into live plants and aquariums.... I thought I did a great job on my tank (only a 60 gallon tank)....until now. Looking at my tank after watching this, now I have to remove EVERYTHING and start over lol. I could not imagine having to start from scratch on this tank. Beautiful tank.

Imagine if we put this sort of effort into actually saving the planet.... instead of consuming shit to make our egos feel like we're doing something good for nature. Absolutely abhorrent. Beautiful work, but oh, so misguided.
If you think preserving nature by recycling rocks, dead trees, and farmed plants is misguiding. Try to see the industrial steel, iron, woods and concretes around your house... imbecile.

I like 4:30 keep it with no plants, make it look like an alien landscape and add either black and silver angel fish or something large that schools, like Red discus and yellow discus.

I would have liked to see the fine white gravel used in front and around the groupings of tall rocks to contrast the climbing plants crawling up the tall stones. Plants around the grouping of rocks could be trimmed to keep from running across the entire bottom.
Is it just me or does that tank look really cloudy for 56 days in? Is it just the video quality? the light scattering?

is there no pump / filter etc? is this why there are so many plants?
if you watch till the end you will see the filtration. it uses a overflow system that goes to the sump like most reef aquarium tank would use.
Styroform boards used as spacers for the base of the rocks is not a good idea because it has tremendous bouyancy, no wonder the rocks started to move as soon as the water is filled in
