Yep, the part of the reason why this fight got so much love by the end was that these two fighters clearly put all their eggs into winning the fight rather than surviving or winning by points. So much respect for both fighters. I would love to see a rematch between a fully trained and rested Weili vs Joanna, or possibly Weili vs Schevchenko ( although it may be a little too soon for Weili..)

Just won fight of the year and rightfully so. Really the last time we had a fight in a crowded arena, an absolute war and striking clinic between two top fighters, the damage done to each other. That this was at the begining of the year and people still talked about it with all the incredible fights really shows it deserved to win the fight of the year award. Figureiredo vs Moreno and Poirier vs Hooker a good 2nd and 3rd.
This is such a different UFC fight. Both of them are standing the whole time, basically just boxing away at each other. Nobody really manages to take it to the ground and they're very offensive, basically just spamming punches out and not worrying as much about not getting hit. I get a feeling they both know their opponent's punches aren't going to knock them out so they're just going for it.
