I first watched glee because i quite liked (most of) the music. But then as i rewatch some episodes (and a few clips on TH-cam) im like ok certainly some problems... Then i pay a bit more attention to sue. While she is quite manipulative in her own way.. She does care for the kids.
And you can’t say she’s friends with Becky. Becky is like her daughter. Mr shue is literally friends with all of them not a father figure to them unless you count puck but that was coach beast being a father figure to puck

He was proving a point to Sue and literally the next scene we see him telling the students that they should stop twerking (and he didn't even want to tell them that this is because of unique so they wouldn't get mad at her [which wouldn't be justified but still, it would have happened])

All of that, then throw on the fact that he REPEATS. THE. SAME. PATTERNS. OF. BEHAVIOR. and NEVER grows as a character every. single. season. His students CONSTANTLY call him out on his favoritism in what almost feels like a character arc where he's supposed to learn something and grow as an instructor...theeeeeeeen the cycle repeats itself. I started watching as an adult, not as a teen when Glee was really big in the prestreaming era, so maybe it'a only because of the benefit of hindsight that I noticed this tends to happen a lot for all of the mains. Story arc of character development, then hit the RESET button and reenact the same formulaic pattern in a slightly different way in every season. It kind of just...built to absolutely nothing and got really tedious really quickly and I never finished. But I think that's part of what made these self-aware, semi-fourth wall breaking moments from Sue such a treasure.
Sue was the best character and she deserved better. I love her relationship with Becky and how they're like family. She was the only person I could stand while watching Glee most of the time.
Especially when Will tells her to treat Becky differently. She wants to be treated the same as everyone and Sue looked past her disability and made her a cheerleader. She is the best character

Absolutely! Sue was malicious and egotistical, but she was working in a high school, a place that is required to be highly regulated (while also often having very questionable parameters as an institution) and she knew how to work within those parameters. She understood the boundaries and the high standard of care required of her by law. She knew where the boundaries lay. Schue saw those boundaries, slicked them up with his hair gel and spat on them when they didn't go his way, and as a result he worked against the best interests of his students far more often than he worked with them. He really was the last person who should be allowed in a school, and that's next to Sue Sylvester.
And she was the only one to stand up for Kurt when his father had a heart attack yet everyone was attacking him for being an atheist. My respect for her in that episode went 📈

The thing I hated that they did with Sue is that they basically forced us to accept the fact that her exaggerations were fake. But in this one episode, they expose sue to be a compulsive liar and that’s so stupid. If they’re going to make her a compulsive liar, then so is the glee club because they all freaking lip synch all their songs. Nobody sounds that good live. I always loved how Sue spoke out the things all of us were thinking. it feels like they wanted to let the audience speak through her that's great.
Sue is by far the best character in that show she's an amazing teacher who actually is looking out for the best interest of the kids in that school while will is fulfilling some sick fantasy he's had while also neglecting his students.. if you think about it sue was right all along about him.

The thing I hated that they did with Sue is that they basically forced us to accept the fact that her exaggerations were fake. I believed she was friends with a lot of famous people, that she was close with friends with the governor and her ex boyfriend was a super popular celebrity idk everything that fit her character I believed because this is just a show. But in this one episode, they expose sue to be a compulsive liar and that’s so stupid. If they’re going to make her a compulsive liar, then so is the glee club because they all freaking lip synch all their songs. Nobody sounds that good live. Also, they’re all thieves because their stage equipment when they’re just singing amongst THEMSELVES is fancy as heck with all these lighting and costumes. Blaine’s performance of beauty school dropout looked like a broadway number. Don’t get me started on how they all seem to know every dance move, some of those kids are paid actors oh wait THEY ALL ARE
