    i very much enjoyed this video. So much, in fact, that i now have a NIB Dorothy Hamill doll in my cart. i also have the rehearsal warmer in another cart. Lol
    i'm going to rest on it for a few days though.

      Thank you Blake! ❤️😊🥰 Oh my! Really!? She really is a lovely doll. When researching for this video I read that she asked the hairdresser to make her look like Julie Andrews in the sound of music. It makes me love the doll that little bit more. Let me know how you go 😊❤️

    It’s so satisfying witnessing you finally freeing her from that box! She is cute! Maybe not as glamorous as the skating Crissy with those gorgeous red curls, but still cute.
    I love how sturdy the Ideal dolls feel, very high quality made to last. I like her body shape better than Barbie, seems more delicate and natural to me, I like Barbies feet better though.

    • @DeanReen
      @DeanReen  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I actually like that she is not so glamorous. In a way she is more classic and understated. She had to be freed. I hope to find her some nice clothes soon, or make some. I love Tuesday's/Dorothy's feet, it is the lack of shoes that I find frustrating.

    After Dorothy Hammil won the Olympic's, her hairstyle became very popular amongst all of the girls in Junior High and High School. Every girl had the same hair cut. 🤣 Her skirt went up due to that is how skating outfits are as they skate.

    Wow! This sure brings back a lot of memories for me Dean! Dorothy Hamill was the sweetheart of the '76 winter Olympics which were held in Lake Placid In the States. 1976 was our bicentennial year, so everyone was rooting for the US during the Olympic games that year (this was when they were still held every 4 years.) I was 9 years old at the time and all little girls wanted to have Dorothy's haircut! It was such a big deal because most figure skaters before her had their hair in a bun! The plain skating outfit is probably because of the Olympic uniforms they had at the time. The Hamill Camel was her signature move. I played with this doll for hours! I agree that they could have made her a bit prettier though. You should check out the video of her performance if you can! 💗

    • @DeanReen
      @DeanReen  ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh, I didn't realise the winter Olympics were in the states! I do know it was the bicentennial year though (thanks to Barbie 😂). She really must have been the talk of the whole US! 😍 Oh! Naturally you had this doll too! 😂 So lucky! I once went to a preventorium as a kid and they had the 2000 olympics swimming Teresa and I played with her every day. I guess that was my generation's version of this doll 🤷🏼‍♂️

    Thanks for this unboxing and showing of Dorothy and her not-so-great fashions. It's very funny when you demonstrate the amazing technology of my childhood. 😉 It's so matter of fact and kind of blase. But remember this was way before video games, or interactive dolls that speak to you using the internet, as there was no internet. I was a kid during these years and remember the Dorothy Hamill craze here in America. A lot of the women wanted her hairstyle, this was just about a year before everyone wanted the Farrah hairstyle. I had a similar hairstyle during that time, not because of Dorothy Hamill, but because of the character Jessica in the movie "Logan's Run."
    The most dolls could do then was very simple little movements due to pushing something on the back. Or you pulled a string and they moved a little, like the 1972 Look Around Crissy. Which was my first Crissy doll and I thought it was the most beautiful doll ever. These dolls required a child to use their imagination a lot and go into their little doll fantasy worlds. Dorothy the doll has held up really beautifully considering it's 46 years old! No that doesn't make me feel old at all. 😄 No melting in the limbs and still able to skate and looks just like it did all those years ago. My out of the box one does also. Dorothy was prettier than the doll, but I think for that time period it's a pretty good likeness. Some celebrity dolls around that time and after ended up so ugly. Even in the 90's there were some very bad looking dolls. LOL Thanks for doing this video on a little known doll now even here in the U.S.

      @DeanReen  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hahaha! "and her not-so-great fashions." that is a classic! 😂😂😂 I love gimmicks like this. As someone that doesn't play video games this kind of thing really appeals to me. Wouldn't you be disappointed if you got your hair cut like this and then everyone wanted Farrah 🤷🏼‍♂️😱 Reading your comment makes me so sad. I feel for kids these days. Even I feel like everything is a little too easy and readily accessible. That is very true, they fail miserably to capture a real persons likeness these days. I guess back then they didn't try too hard so it wasn't as bad in a way. They looked like doll versions of the person. Thank you ❤️ I am glad you liked the video ❤️😊

    Great review! Dorothy has finally 'Hamill Camel'-ed out of her box! LOL I love that 'skating rink' (though it is really just a rotating stand... it would have been cool if Ideal released a real ice skating rink playset for her, though I don't know how well she actually sold. Thanks for showing how the stand works, as I have always wondered how...) You are right:- Ideal's growing hair Crissy was wildly popular here in Australia back then... I had the last (in her original incarnation) 1974 version as a kid, and pretty much all my friends and relatives had her, too... Baby Crissy was also wildly popular over here, but I thought it was weird that a baby should have really long hair so I never wanted one. 😜 LOL when you were trying to put the leg post onto the stand. 🤣 Love her rehearsal jumpsuit... it looks like it came from some 1970's B-grade sci-fi flick! LOL
