Still sucks. 1.Cold shoulder spam has similar dps than uncharged rapid fire gauss shotgun (keeping in mind gauss shotty fires faster in third person due to a bug) 2.Gauss rifle has the same base damage, more range and can have a suppressor attached for more consistent stealth damage 3.Both of the stated weapons are easier to get than a gauss shotgun because they aren't locked behind a reputation grind Everything you killed in this video could have been killed faster with either weapons. Never mind you have to invest time so many perks just to make it work If I can kill a demolisher with 1 charged gauss rifle (on the torso) shot as a bloodied stealth rifleman then I should be able to do the same with a loud bloodied aggressive gauss shotgun but I can't. This thing relies on headshots/crits to one shot mildly tougher enemies while the rifle doesn't.
The reason why the cold shoulder does so well is because it has CRYO damage which not many enemies have that resistance while the gauss shotgun has ballistic/energy damage witch everything in the game has and because of those differences the gauss shotgun's damage is heavily resisted while the cold shoulder isn't as resisted because of the cryo damage and the lack of enemies with cryo resistance
@@mikeoneal6715 basically its not as cost efficient vs other weapons in the same category, low budget investments like the gauss rifle and even the pistol is way better then the gauss shotgun now
Cold shoulder is way better. Every gauss uncharged shot seems inconsistent. If you’re going to charge it you’re better off with a bloodied bow with flaming arrows. Or even a Gauss rifle without sneaking lol.
Compare it to a commando build where you can 2 tap with 20-30 in the mag at a much greater distance. I think it needs to be doing what it did when wastelanders launched. Minus the glitched damage to scorch queen. If you need to be next to the mob and only have 8 in the mag you should be one tapping everything.
For those that remember and ran with it when it first came out then yes it does suck now, but for those who weren’t around for that it’s more acceptable and fun imo, too much of a bitter taste in my mouth with how much fun it was running with it back in the day. My shotgunner only really uses Cold Shoulder and a vampires VATS hit chance reduced AP cost gauss shotgun which work very well. Also carry a M79 for range and a melee/gauntlet weapon. I'm wearing Civil Engineer but will change it to Thorn eventually.

Angry Turtle was just talking about how Assassin's armor (which reduces damage from humans) actually works against the damage from your own explosive weapons. That way you could use this weapon up close.
I will revise my complaints. However I will have to change 1 of my Shotties to Explo on second star. I'm wondering if the extra explosive is mitigating the drop in other damage with my build. Also, I usually run some "alt weapon" cards for versatility. The changes were very noticeable after update. Again, I'll check with another weapon modded with Explo to see if there is a vast change. EDIT: Oh... and you are running all Science cards... that's a lot of dedication to one weapon.
I agree. I'm not a fan of the way science perks are handled. By changing them to add energy weapon damage, they are admitting that energy guns are generally lacking. The better option would have to been to buff the weapons. 15 perk points is too high of cost for weapon damage perks.

I agree, these are as good as they have ever been (since the range nerf) and explosive is a nice party trick. Most of the hand wringing comes from the nerf to Vampires. My shotgun character has always run low health and relied on Vampires to stay alive and now that's a little bit less reliable because of the change. I might switch my shotgunner to PA or just go full health with it. It's still plenty of damage and very fun. I also have yet to die with that character since the update...so maybe the vampires was overkill anyway.
@@wiggle_plays I still enjoy the ricochet synergy and mainly run vampire weapons on most low health builds. It's lazy but I like to not have to think about about healing.
I tested Ricochet recently and it's broken/changed. Works for the first hit from an enemy. After that, it will make the sound but won't give you healing from Vampire's.
@@wiggle_plays I was unintentionally "testing" it a couple days ago at a freezing eviction notice. I was continuously healing as I was slowly walking towards muties shooting with a minigun, and at the time I was in the stealth suit because I was trying to get to the rad scrubber. I was on the bow character, so should have been getting a pretty big dose of health from any triggered heal, maybe that's what was making it constantly regen. I was also taking hits from multiple enemies so maybe that made a difference? Interesting. We need a manual.
My testing was not extensive. I went into a silo and stood under a turret. I had ricochet and a vamp weapon equipped. I was also wearing Solar armor. Prior to the update, my health would have pegged at full. It was gradually dropping. Ricochet would still trigger but there was no healing associated with it. I didn't do any testing beyond that.
Not too bad, I read torso shots spread the explosive effect better than headshots. Many shotgunners just do headshots with this weapon, but it's not as effective as torso shots. I think AA/EX/-25 is the best roll for this since vat criticals got nerfed as well. Though I've embraced auto-melee/carnivore. It's a better build for everything this game throws at you.
