    Wow, what a find. So glad they donated it to the museum and not try to sell it to a pawn shop.

    I’m one of those who can’t throw away that “shoebox in the garage” until I’ve been through every item in it - much to the chagrin of my clutter-phobic hubby - and this story tells exactly why! 😂😂😂

      Yes, very true! Just hope the USA learns from Germany and doesn't repeat their mistakes from the 1930's!!!!! The storming of the US Capitol reminded me of the burning of the Reichstag by the Nazis !!!!!! Just saying!

    Historians are debating whether or not it was Betsy Ross who created our first American flag? I'm not sure I knew this. Who else, do historians think, could have created the flag? Time to do some research. Either way this is an incredible discovery and a generous donation to the museum and to America. I never knew Betsy Ross was married, at least, 3 times!

      She was a professional seamstress and we know she made hundreds of them, but so did many others. The story goes that George Washington gave her a drawing of the proposed Stars and Stripes flag to work from. She noticed that the stars in the drawing were six-pointed and told him it would be easier to make them five-pointed by folding the fabric several times and making a single cut across the bottom.

    I love history, and I love this video! I dress up as Betsy Ross every year in our 4th Parade. Since I had been doing this for at least 20 years (and I love writing for children), I wrote a Picture Book about her (Call Me Betsy). Some doubt, but I do believe she made the first flag.

  • @annelefevre9457

    Modern day people just need to accept History, and stop trying to change it . I was taught ( and believe) that Betsy Ross sewed the first American flag , and we need to believe it. There is no sense in trying to prove other wise. How nice that the diary or journal came into that family’s possession.

    If Betsy Ross didn't make the flag then our schools need to correct the text books and tell the truth about history. It's important to know the truth.

    • @andyroo9381
      @andyroo9381 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Perhaps you are correct. Until it is proven that Betsy Ross did not create our first American flag then she will remain the owner of that legacy, as far as I am concerned. Who else do they (historians) think may have been the creator of our flag? I don't know the answer to that but I may just start researching to find out, after I click on the "replay" button.

      @@charlesbarboza8591 I didn't find so much history on this subject. Basically, there isn't any historical evidence of Betsy Ross sewing our flag. Betsy Ross did sew flags for nautical vessels and such. Wikipedia stated at the Centennial mark, of our country, the living descendants of Betsy Ross are the people who started the story of Betsy Ross sewing our first flag. History on this is quite vague.
