Good video. It’s been 2 weeks and my goal has been walking 10,000 steps. Came into my endoscopic gastroplasty with fundus ablation (new add on option for gherelin) with a good amount of muscle under the fat from resistance training and as my energy has returned want to do that as well. If not to build muscle, then at least to preserve for now.
Good morning! You mentioned weakness with the weight loss. Can anyone feel nausea after surgery for a couple of weeks? And if so, what can be done to prevent feeling nausea. Thanks again!
Hi Ms. Pacheco, persisting nausea after a bariatric operation can have a number of different causes, too much to go into via web. Persisting nausea is definitely something that you should discuss soon with your bariatric team.
What workout do you recommend immediately following surgery? I was told just walking but I would like to get to lifting as soon as possible. Thank you for your videos.
Thanks for you interest Reneem! It's awesome that you have enthusiasm for exercise; you need to follow the advice of your surgeon about what is allowed at what time.
Dr Pilcher, do you see rny and sleeve patients equally successful in building muscle and strength post op, or does one not do as well as the other? Thank you, appreciate your experience in this area.
I'm not a big fan of protein bars in the long term. Too many chemicals and artificial sweeteners. Here's a longer answer: th-cam.com/video/8E47h9-ehTk/w-d-xo.html
Can someone after gastric sleeve or bypass become bodybuilder? I guess due to lower volume accepted by the new stomach it would be hard to gain all these extra calories needed to gain muscle
Someone who has had bariatric surgery can certainly be fit and strong, though I have not seen anyone with bariatric surgery go on to professional level body building
@@DoctorJP thank you for the reply. Do you think this happens due to the nature of the stomach or is it because you have not seen someone in personal doing professional bodybuilding after the surgery?
My surgeon said I couldn't work out because I could get a hernia. I'm a week out and I feel good enough to try should I just wait? What are the chance's of getting a hernia?
Hello Dr. Pilcher, I am Type II diabetic who is 7 week post op Roux-en-Y surgery, I am 5'6" and pre-op surgery weight was 248 and not 7 weeks post op I am down 28 pounds, however I have not lost any weight in the last 2 weeks and I worry that because I am still on a little but of insulin, that the insulin is slowing down my weight loss? Does yoru video about the 3 week stall also apply to my situation as well, being that I am diabetic? I know you cannot confirm that, but just your general opinion would be appreciated, Thank you so much!. Dr. Mansour
Hello, I agree there may be a concern with the persisting diabetes leading to slower weight loss. You may also want to see some different thoughts about the food plan here th-cam.com/video/JiBP3WKsgaM/w-d-xo.html and here th-cam.com/video/8E47h9-ehTk/w-d-xo.html
Thanks for checking in Ms. Harbour. I think the best way to find a good bariatric surgeon is to ask your primary doctor for a recommendation. If that doesn't work, the second best is to ask around among friends and family. If that's also not an option, I suggest checking on the web in your area - web search can be misleading because it can present surgeons in a way that does not accurately reflect their practice, so read with care. Usually, bariatric surgeons in a group of 3 or more will be solid and medically focused. Best of luck in your journey!
Thank you so much for all of your videos!
Thanks for watching!
Thank you for such an informative look at strength and endurance post surgery. Much appreciated.

Great question Jeanie. To me the ability to build muscle seems the same.
@john pilcher what about protein bars????

lol please follow the recommendations of your surgeon.
How many weeks out from surgery can I start push ups?
I need you to check in with your own team about permission for activity after surgery.

I’m so nervous about making this decision but when I watch these videos I feel that it is possible for me. How should I go about finding a doctor?
