I am rubbish at documenting my spinning too. Planning to try and get better by keeping it simple. I love the small sample of spun yarn and the swatch. It's amazing how it knits up many times!
Thank you for sharing your thoughts! I'm glad you liked the yarn sample and swatch. It's all about enjoying the process and finding what works for you!

Excited and waiting for postie with study packs.. I’m going to have to scour and prep most of my wool but that’s part of the study too. Thanks for running this , this way. 😊
Love the excitement! Prepping wool is so satisfying, for the first time in years I am considering buying a drum carder so I can do more fibre prep. Hope the postie doesn’t take too long!
Thoroughly enjoying this series already! I have kept some spinning notes from breeds I have tried so far (Manx Loaghton is the only rare one) and found it helped to add notes of: - do I want to spin this again? (Some have been a hard no but others I can't wait to try again!) - what would this be used for? (Might not work for a cardigan but would be excellent for a rug, for example). In related thoughts, I got blending board as a rather extravagant gift last year and love blending fiber - yet my favourite spinning method is short forward. So the woollen prep and worsted spun is my favourite. ❤ Would love to know how you're getting on with your sewing, practically or just thoughts about it, perhaps as a Sunday video?
I'm so glad you're going to be following along with the series! It sounds like you have a great system for keeping track of your spinning adventures. I'd love to share more of my sewing journey; I have to work out how I want to do that. I am definitely considering making it a Sunday video!
I'm looking forward to seeing how all the different fleeces spin up. In the interests of organisation and record keeping I bought some labels last week, and I've gone through and labelled all my skeins. It's surprising how they mount up, I'm not a fast spinner and I've not spun every single day, so I was quite surprised. Ideal world labelling I'd include type of fibre, length of wool in skein, weight, (WPI and plying twist angle are getting a bit more technical than I do), and date spun.
I think labeling skeins is a fantastic way to stay organized. I'm terrible at it myself-I always assume I'll remember what I've spun, but I never do. You'd think I'd have learned my lesson by now, but apparently not!
I'm really looking forward to getting started. Inspired by you I am going to be making some proper records, scrapbook style. I'm waiting for my fibre to arrive and am marshalling my other resources, I too am going to include my thoughts on the spin and prep - I will be prepping myself as I have ordered scoured samples. I am also going to include a lock in my notes as it is likely I will buy fleeces of my favourites in the future. Thanks for the book recommendation In sheeps clothing is not one which graces my shelves yet! I personally love the Fleece and Fibre Sourcebook but it does only include fibres the US authors can get hold of - although they have been to extraordinary lengths to get hold of some of their fleeces. Best wishes Jenny
I'll take that especially as I cut it myself, I have such bad experiences at the hair dresses I just felt I can't do a worse job then them and had a go. The joys of curly hair.
Hi there Becca...Have you given any thought to the calendar you were hopefully going to make and sell. Really excited to see your rare breeds project develop. Sweet Blessings Mand XOXO
Thank you, Mand! I just need to make a few adjustments to the calendar, and then it will be ready for sale. This is just a trial run-if there's enough interest, we’ll create a larger version next year and have them printed in Wales and send them out from here so I could do a nice thank you card ect.
So pleased to be able to share in this! I must dig out my fibre, books and get a suitable binder for my notes. At present I’m chairbound…..but with my right leg horizontal……following a foot operation. This rules out using my spinning wheel. Probably not using the wheel for another month. So I’m hoping these will not be too thick and fast or I will definitely fall behind right at the start! Thanks so much for leading us in this. I need focus for my spinning journey and this is fabulous!
Thank you for joining in! Your support means so much, and I hope this journey brings you the focus and inspiration you seek. Wishing you a smooth and speedy recovery!
