You can also mention that when Saejima gets introduced in later games, he has the subtitle "Patriarch of the Saejima family" confirming that they still acknowledge the existence of this plot point, without developping it more. In my heacannon, Kido was named captain and the Saejima family was a small group with not much power kind of like the Matsugane family in Judgment with no real need or reason to show them involved directly in the story
Honestly this is why I wish Kido and Baba weren't based on real people so they could have been reoccurring characters adopted into the Saejima family rather than one offs. Edit: Forgot Baba's actor was playing a new character in the pirate game.
In Baba's case, that's not entirely true. His actor has an excellent relationship with RGG Studio, and he frequently appears in their TH-cam content, so I'd say it would be extremely easy for them to bring him back as Baba. My guess is that the writers simply aren't interested in doing anything else with the character.
I have a feeling that both Majima's family and Saejima's family will make an appearance in Wacky Eyepatch man in Hawaii adventures, and they'll somehow round out the pirate army Majima builds while working from behind the scenes at certain points.
I could see a plot point in Pirate Yakuza where the Shigaki family could be former Saejima family which could also be a reason for Saejima showing up. However with the tojo dissolution Shigaki didnt need to go by 'former Saejima family' anymore so changed the name of the family unoffically. Shigaki himself could have been a high ranking officer in the Saejima family which can explain the change after Saejima left the Tojo with the jima's.

No wonder you barely see the Saejima family. if your leader is usually occupied with chilling in another prison because he feels like it i also wouldn't show up to work.
The Saejima family is a victim of the top down way the stories are written. They seem to decide the setting, time frame, major plot points, then shove what is often a square peg in a round hole and hammer it in to make it fit. Conjecture - I would say that they had the different locales part of Yakuza 5 planned early on, then when they planned Sapporo they thought it would be cool to include Abashiri prison and semi-adapt the story of Yoshie Shiratori, who escaped 4 prisons, including Abashiri, which was supposed to be impossible. The guards thought that Shiratori would just be eaten by bears in the Hokkaido wilderness. Sure enough Saejima fights a bear the second he gets out of prison like the guards suggested and then becomes a hermit hunter for a solid chunk of time like Shiratori did. They did all this probably because it sounded cool but it doesn't really make sense for Saejima's character arc or place at the end of Yakuza 4. A massive issue I have with the writing of this series is that what happens in the endings is usually undone very quickly in the next game. It seems like RGG does very little long term planning for their stories.
Such a good point. Sounds true :( I agree that it’s a shame endings usually don’t matter much. Though, I think it changed a bit in recent games. Y0 and Y7, they seem pretty consistent and meaningful

Honestly, Kido and Baba should have been in the Saejima Family after they left Jail, they could be his Captain or Lieutenants honestly. A good way to see them making amends for what they're done in the games prior and perhaps Saejima Family had an unintentional knack of recruiting those who tried to beat them up first.

Then once he met up with Diago and Majima after they all got released from Prison in 6, Diago just decided to make them both Lietenants regardless of their family statuses.

Kinda sad because the logo of Saejima is pretty cool. Also a Saejima Gaiden should probably have chapters in the present and the past, kinda like how Infinite Wealth goes between Kiryu and Ichiban. He doesn't seem like he would be the guy to just sit on his hands all day and let others do the dirtywork for him. Then, trouble with another family starts, and while Saejima tries to keep the peace and keep it all formal, a lieutenant of the Saejima family could have such a heroic view on Saejima that he would insist on taking full revenge and fighting them head-on. The story, then, would consist of Saejima trying to keep the peace between his family and whatever family he's fighting (probably an Omi Alliance subsidiary) while his overly enthusiastic lieutenant would go against that, eventually leading to a confrontation where the lieutenant has to come to terms with the fact that, at the end of the day, Saejima is just human, like everyone else. Maybe with an allusion to later topics of how the structures and hierarchy of the Yakuza as an institution ruin the people who get caught up in their fights. And if Saejima wasnt a protagonist, like in Yakuza 6, the Saejima family could have been Kiryu's support group in Kamurocho, perhaps with someone like Baba or Kido serving as Saejima's representative while he's in prison.

You dont run into them though is just NPCs talking about them every now and then
i feel like they did what they did in yakuza 5 cuz they wanted more playable Saejima, but since he is a Yakuza and we cant have playable yakuza members in the yakuza series, for ovious reasons.
The one hearsay I heard about Saejima's family is fittingly enough, from RGG Online where it is mentioned that the family is doing... something... in China? Since translations for RGG online is really hard to come by, I can't verify the information. Still is funny tho that China is the USA for the Saejima Family.
I'm thinking why was kiryu doing the inauguration when he's no longer the chairman ? He wasn't even deemed as an acting chairman. Maybe daigo gave him permission.
The only explanation I can think of is that during Yakuza 4, Kiryu still felt some attachment to the Tojo Clan because of Hamazaki's sacrifice, and I'd imagine many within the Tojo Clan still respected him a lot. But some time later he just wanted to distance himself away from it and that's why we get Yakuza 5.
Deadass never even noticed it in Yakuza 5 and future titles, especially right after going into the game after finishing Yakuza 4. This REALLY seems weird now, especially after hyping up that Majima Family entrance scene and THEN giving us this scene after credits, but knowing Saejima, all of his family members would be just as cool as all the people we met in THE JOINT, with a Baba-like figure being his right hand.
based on the fact that rggt previously said like a dragon was going forward exclusively as an rpg series with judgement being their action series immediately followed by the downfall of johnnys and the suspicious transformation of gaiden into a standalone action game it does feel like the gaidens were meant to temporarily fill a hole for action games from the studio while they work on a new action ip wich seems to be project century
Maybe Someya from Yakuza 6 could've been the Captain just to remind us that they still exist although I can't think of any ways to have them as an important part of the story without making it feel forced
saejima gaiden : the whole game happens in a open world prison where he have to jail break again . ( and we see no mention of his family like it never existed or if they do its "he never got a member for his family to begin with" )
It toIt took me a minute to remember what happened in that scene between Saejima and Haruka that you mentioned "traumatized Yakuza fans". ..And then I remembered.
Another classic Yakuza 5 moment. Something awesome gets introduced in 4, (like the concept of Saejima's own Family) and then 5 retcons it for.. no reason.
The only time they were mentioned are in dead souls. It when you are walking around the world and hear that saejima is out of the country and the family are taking a lot of businesses under theme.
I think the only reason Saejima gameplay is frowned upon is because the hiding from police mechanic was made to encourage players into taking underground routes throughout Kamurocho even though its not blatantly indicated to players this is the correct thing.. Also they tried to add verticality with underground and rooftops... But they were separated by loading screens.
One thing I find a little sad is how Saejima in both Yakuza 4 and Yakuza 5 give these little wisdom speeches that make you relate or feel for the dude given all he wanted was to be with his blood brother Goro and just live life till they die old or get killed doing what they do best. That BBQ scene has a very powerful foreshadowing given how slowly the whole Yakuza group is dropping and by the time we get to Like A Dragon, they're practically near extinction. I don't know why the writers love to make Saejima's relationship be him and jail later on in the series when him being introduced and being playable in 4 was his peak moment, I don't see how 5 and especially 6's idea is to put him back in jail. Dude could've been in the fight near the end of 6 with Goro, and for whatever reason the 2 are only there to appear in the beginning and end of Yakuza 6.
Plot twist, the Saejima Family is a family of one... just Saejima. But in all seriousness I feel like the Saejima Family was really thrown in there fulfill the subtitle of Yakuza 4, "Heirs of the Legend". Where the ending feels pretty definitive for all the characters; Kiryu got to live his life happily retired in Okinawa with his orphanage while in his place Akiyama and Tanimura protect Kamurocho and Saejima helps out Daigo and the Tojo Clan. It's only Yakuza 5 where the ending gets unraveled in order to continue the series and then I guess RGG figured they wanted to end Kiryu's story with a 3 part ending of Yakuza 6, Gaiden, and Infinite Wealth as well as a new heir to legend, Ichiban. So I don't think they ever really meant to do anything with the Saejima family moreover like you said I'm not sure what they could've done even after Yakuza 5 because it's crucial for the plot that the Tojo big three to be out of the picture in Y6 and by Y7/Gaiden the Yakuza are no more. Granted in would've been cool to see the Saejima family fight alongside him during the dissolution battle but the Majima family wasn't present either so it makes sense they wouldn't be there.
One time my friend asked me if I had to pick on Tojo Clan family to join, who would I pick. I said the Saejima Family because I wouldn't have to do jack shit since the Patriarch is never around and no one ever seems to check on how the family is doing. And the only members would be me and a framed photo of Hamazaki
Yakuza 5 could've easily had Saejima Family in it and have Saejima do everything himself. If you recall, his entire point in the opening cutscene is that "newer yakuza are too soft, it's on us as senior members to teach them how to act", so they could've had a scene of some goons showing up outside the restaurant/batting center only for Saejima to tell them something along the lines of "A real man should be able to shoulder his burdens alone" or even have a group fight with them because Saejima wanted to be sure that his family could hold their own while he went for 10 years in the joint.
Unless they make a Saejima Gaiden that's set during the events of yakuza 5-7, I don't really see what they can do with the Saejima family, since it has dissolved along with the rest of the Tojo clan. They could introduce some subordinate that is still loyal to Saejima but idk. In my mind, this ship has long sailed but I am open to RGG still trying to make something work with the Saejima family.
Idk whether it would have fit within yakuza 5, but it would have been cool if saejima was given a family of insubordinate, maybe even traitorous guys and had to whip them into shape to prevent mutiny withing the tojo clan
If the Majima family is the major muscle of the Tojo, after the Dojima , Kazama, & Nishiki families fell, then it would be cool if Saejima’s family was like an elite strike force, that got sent out for special low-key missions. Not like stealthy, but just striking quickly and with too much force to retaliate. It would be in-line with Saejima’s fighter maker side story from 4, and that Kido & Baba were boss fights of their own. Only a select few can be recruited into the elusive Saejima family, or something. Dead Souls isn’t canon, but maybe the fact that Saejima is on a mission in China is still canon. What if that is what he was doing?
I think RGG sometimes prones to make great plot ideas or interesting set pieces at the end of a game but fail to follow up in their next game (spoiler up to Infinite Wealth): - Aside from the Saejima situation on the video, the Kamurocho Hills have always been built and developed throughout the franchise, but after Yakuza 5, it now only serves as a landmark and not a full fledge location anymore (while the Millenium Tower not only be a playable place, it still expands and adds new floors up until this day) - At the end of Yakuza: Like A Dragon, Daigo and Watase have plans to establish a security company for yakuzas with no where to go, but in Infinite Wealth the company was gone up in smoke and doesnt even have a moment to shine. It's a shame because imagine if RGG develops their set pieces and ideas further, their games would have a sense of continuity and not fell like a one-off adventure each game.
You can still make him a Patriarch and still have him do things hands-on. I mean, look at Majima in Kiwami 2. In the Majima Saga, he did most of the work by himself
The Saejima family probably merged with the majima family since he is always out of comission. As for a representative of the saejima family they should create a representative who is honour and strength personified maybe a bit ballsy as well.
You never see them because to be part of the Saejima family you have to be in prison. To be a bit more serious, remember how Dead Souls excuse for Saejima's absence was he was in China on Tojo business? Perhaps that's where the majority of his family are, doing Tojo clan expansion things there. My first thought for a Saejima Gaiden is seeing him go to China, mostly because I want that Dead Souls reference.

Saejima is the true joint man
Y A S U O S O D A C H I
EX - CAPTAIN
Of The
SAEJIMA FAMILY
A Tojo Clan Subsidiary
One thing that I want to say about Saejima Family is that it has a coolest crest in all of the series, fight me!
i feel like they did what they did in yakuza 5 cuz they wanted more playable Saejima, but since he is a Yakuza and we cant have playable yakuza members in the yakuza series, for ovious reasons.
اتوقع السبب ان سايجما بنفسه ما يبي يقود احد ما يشوف نفسه ليدر ، وممكن دخل التوجو عشان يحمي دايقو وماجيما.
بس بعد ذي احسها غير منطقية.
Maybe we are the members of the Saejima family all along. We only realized it after 5 games later... Also nice video Leon!
honestly a shame there wasn’t anything with the saejima family i would’ve loved to see how saejima would do as a patriarch
We know more about the Majima family then the Sajima family 😱
@devilleon7 Yh, hamazaki said protect the tojo clan. They are proof of our existence. Haruka passed on the message to kazuma.
I had fun playing as Saejima. I just liked his fighting style a lot.
saejima gaiden :
the whole game happens in a open world prison where he have to jail break again . ( and we see no mention of his family like it never existed or if they do its "he never got a member for his family to begin with" )
Saejima himself IS the entire Saejima family.
Saejima Family is the friends we made along the way
It toIt took me a minute to remember what happened in that scene between Saejima and Haruka that you mentioned "traumatized Yakuza fans".
..And then I remembered.
The symbol looks like a crab.
Saejima Family is the rubber family of the Tojo.
That was, indeed, a lot of points
1:07 funny cartoon choice
Maybe they just scrapped the idea for Y5 and buried the truth into the shadows
Saejima is a one man wrecking crew anyways
I was always dissapointed by the lack of Saejima content I hope this changes in the future
Majima family reunion in pirate yakuza gonna be peak
I hope we get some Saejima Family bones in Majima's game
I think RGG sometimes prones to make great plot ideas or interesting set pieces at the end of a game but fail to follow up in their next game (spoiler up to Infinite Wealth):
- Aside from the Saejima situation on the video, the Kamurocho Hills have always been built and developed throughout the franchise, but after Yakuza 5, it now only serves as a landmark and not a full fledge location anymore (while the Millenium Tower not only be a playable place, it still expands and adds new floors up until this day)
- At the end of Yakuza: Like A Dragon, Daigo and Watase have plans to establish a security company for yakuzas with no where to go, but in Infinite Wealth the company was gone up in smoke and doesnt even have a moment to shine.
It's a shame because imagine if RGG develops their set pieces and ideas further, their games would have a sense of continuity and not fell like a one-off adventure each game.
saejima is my husbando
You can still make him a Patriarch and still have him do things hands-on. I mean, look at Majima in Kiwami 2. In the Majima Saga, he did most of the work by himself
First rule of Saejima Family: you don’t talk about Saejima Family
Thank you devillion I love you devillion
The Saejima family probably merged with the majima family since he is always out of comission. As for a representative of the saejima family they should create a representative who is honour and strength personified maybe a bit ballsy as well.
Saejima Family Patriarch, Captain, and Lieutenant
Taiga Saejima
You never see them because to be part of the Saejima family you have to be in prison.
To be a bit more serious, remember how Dead Souls excuse for Saejima's absence was he was in China on Tojo business? Perhaps that's where the majority of his family are, doing Tojo clan expansion things there. My first thought for a Saejima Gaiden is seeing him go to China, mostly because I want that Dead Souls reference.
His family goes balls out, i guess that’s why?
i love saejima, so when you ask who should be in the saejima family, think me!
and also the girl reading this
I still wish we got more about the saejima family because why did majima get a lot of members in the story but where is saejimas members?!
