  • Japanese yew hedge, frequently referred to as Podocarpus, is common to Kiawah Island and downtown Charleston landscapes. It can be shaped to a tight hedge or pruned lightly for a more natural look. More naturally shaped, lightly maintained hedges are better for wildlife, as they provide easier access for birds seeking refuge and nesting space.
Visit our Naturally Kiawah Demonstration Garden in Night Heron Park, Kiawah Island, South Carolina to see live specimens of this plant and others that provide optimal habitat for our Island's native wildlife species.
