My grandfather won this gun in a buck contest back in the late 80s. I now have it today and I love it. I’m also proud of it because my grandfather won it. It does exactly what it is supposed to
Bought my 7400 after bailing hay all summer in 1998! I can appreciate your story. It’s still my go to here in southern WV. Went to buy a bolt action and saw the 7400 and it was over its going to stay in the family. Nice video.
I bought a Remington 742 in .30-06 back in 1981. I carried it on several unsuccessful hunts in California, where deer hunting is generally an exercise in frustration. I was disappointed in the accuracy, not really realizing that a 4" group at 100 yards is, as you say, "accurate enough." Note that I had see-through scope mounts and an inexpensive Bushnell 3-9x32 scope with 1/2MOA adjustments. I've since migrated to bolt actions and have never looked back. However, just for giggles, about 15 years ago I replaced the see-through mounts with Leupold dove tail mounts that are low enough to allow for some reasonable cheek weld, but stuck with the old scope. I then discovered at the range that if I simply shot Remington 180 grain CoreLokt factory loads and waited until the barrel cooled COMPLETELY, the groups really did shrink to just about an inch or so. These guns aren't intended for long sessions at the range pounding out dozens of rounds at a sitting, they're intended to be sighted in, practiced with enough to learn the gun and the load, fired a couple of times on a hunt, and then spending most of the year in the safe. Your 7400 is really a beautiful rifle, the engraving is delightful, and the 7400 has several improvements over the older 742 and 740 versions. Good for you Sir, shoot what you can shoot well, and enjoy your choices. You're definitely doing it right!
Thanks! I think you are spot on. I believe my fathers rifle will start to throw shots when it gets hot. They definitely aren’t meant to just rapid fire nonstop out at the range. I appreciate the comment and thanks for watching!
Love your video! I happen to have one of these Model 7400 rifles. It was my dad's, he shot his last buck with it in the fall of 91 before passing. I am nearing my mid 50's now, I plan on using it to harvest a deer as it's been sitting in my cabinet for many years. God bless our deer hunters.
Great story and very compatible with my same exact feelings about my 7400. Mines in 30-06 but the exact same things you mentioned attracted me to mine. I bought it used in absolutely mint condition and the look, the wood, and the feel made me take it home that day. Accurate enough is absolutely correct. Shot 2 deer the first season I used it. Heart shots both at a very modest 70 yards. I'm 75 and had to hunt with shotguns all my life here in New York until we went to rifle a few years ago. I immediately began accumulating all the deer rifles I had dreamed about for so long and hunt with something different every year now but the 7400 is my go to rifle. No jams, accurate enough, carries nicely, fun as hell. Like you said, if it ain't broke don't fix it. Thanks for the post.
I know that feeling well. I have many but my favorite still to this day is my rem sportsman 78 in 270 . It was the first gun my father got for me when I was 14. He has passed and it means more to me than any of the premier guns I have now. Far exceeds any price point in feelings and connections for I had the best father in the whole world. Thank you for this video it brought back alot of great memories
My grandfather left it to my father who gave it to me 20 years after my grandfather passed. I like the gun because it shoots well but love the gun because it’s been in my family
For the thick woods of the Eastern U.S. and Appalachia, that's about a perfect deer rifle and the .270 is about perfect for anything. I've killed Whitetails in Georgia and Caribou in Alaska with my .270. Another point is that I just found your channel and love it. Your video quality is excellent.
I have the granddaddy of your gun, a 740 Woodsmaster in 30-06. Belonged to my grandpa and was passed down to me. It is a jammomatic, as about 50% of the time it jams (stovepipes) after the first shot. So it’s basically a single shot now, but I still love it and will never sell it. I also have an older 760 pump in 35 Remington. Love that gun too. Thanks for the videos and good luck hunting.
I use a BAR 308. Paul scoped 3x9 My Dad baught it many years ago when Browning arms were made in Belgium. Very smooth shooting. My Dad killed 33 deer with it, and now since it's been handed down to me I've killed two, my 9th deer! Hoping very much this 2023 season I hit #10. I've got three does, and six bucks under my belt. I decided about ten years ago I had no excitement shooting does anymore! Guess I'm a buck hunter only now. It's the challenge of, out smarting a buck, that drives me. I appreciate all your videos Paul, thanks for sharing, and helping shorten the forever long 11 month wait. Take care buddy
I shot my first deer in Maine 1980 I used a Winchester Model 94 3030. I have since found a place in my heart for Remington 760's.nearly 40 years later .
I got my first deer with a 7400 in .270 that belonged to my bud's family. Heart shot at 65 yards and that 6 point buck was down in a few seconds. Every year I try to buy it from him, but it's a family heirloom. Since then, I've gotten my own Remington, a 783 in .270 and it never fails to fill my freezer (almost all heart shots). My last buck was a monster 9 pointer at a hundred yards through dense brush with a 12" window between two trees. He went down a couple of yards away from the shot.
Beautiful setup! A lot of 760's and 7600's in my neck of the woods! They're referred to as the Pennsylvania Pump! My grandfather always carried his 270 ever since I started hunting in 82. It now belongs to my oldest brother! My other brother has a 30-06 pump! Nice job putting this together!
Awesome video. I must say that particular gun especially being a 270. Having no issues is rare especially in northern Maine weather conditions. One of my favorite all-time rifles also love the pump action.
I used to have a Remington 742 years ago. I kick myself in the but for getting rid of it. I just picked up a synthetic 7400 in 30:06 and got a nice Burris scope I just put on it. I can't wait to shoot it. Don't get rid of that gun. I bet you can't buy a used one now for what you paid for that one new. I just subscribed to your channel. Looking forward to more of your videos. Maine North Woods Hunter (Shane)
Thanks Shane! Thanks for the comment. That gun is pretty special...it’s been on a lot of memorable hunts! I hope you enjoy your 7400 as much as I do mine.😁 Thanks again for the sub 👍
Got my 7400 Carbine in 93 deer season since it has taken 28 deer. Retired it to the safe now a Ruger American in odd 6 took its place and that took its first deer at 260 yards. 😊
I bought my first rifle in Maine 1980. A Winchester model 94 30/30. At the Cook's Conner Pawn shop. They had racks of Savage 99 in all calibers . But I was a Private first Class at the Marine Barracks NAS Brunswick. So it was the Winchester 94.
Wow! When my dad was stationed at Loring in the late seventies, it did some potato and rock picking. Hard work, bitter cold as well. Hope all is well with Maine.
Beautiful rifles remington made back in the day--- i just ordered a 7600 pump in 308... cannot wait to get it... im almost debating on the 7400 in 308 with synthetic stock too
I have a model 7400 as well. Mine is chambered in .30-06. It’s a bit ammo picky. But once I found the right ammunition, it cycles them every time. Mine likes Winchester, super X and for some reason it doesn’t like Remington ammunition. The Remington ammunition doesn’t eject well.
That rifle with 150 grn round nose bullets is a darn good combo. I used to hunt in Wesley Maine so I know yr situation. I now live in Montana and where I hunt that rifle would be perfect. I'm looking for one in 35 whelen. This is a very good video
What a great opinion piece! That rifle is a special piece because you earned it(worked for it). Had dad bought it for you, you probably wouldn’t be filming a setting with it almost 30yrs later? I too have one and absolutely appreciate the rifle. Always remember, there will be many nay sayers regarding this model of rifle but not everyone knows how to utilize different firearms to achieve the best results. Can’t hand a Barrett 50cal to the three stooges and expect good results, much less reviews!😂
I sold my first gun years ago, it was the old post-64 Winchester 94 30-30s it was a junker compared to the pre-64 94s. I don't regret it, I made a bad first gun choice, you didn't. Good job.
My dad has one that he bought way back in either the late 80's or early 90's. I am no 100% sure, but he said he would gift it to me when I am ready to start hunting. Excited to get into it.
I think it's a pretty ubiqitous problem among all the models. It's one of the reasons I don't go to the range and just rattle off shots. I want to prolong the life of this rifle for as long as possible.
@ Yeah I figured it was an issue plaguing the entirety of that auto loading line, I never bought one for that reason alone, and it sucks because they’re truly beautiful guns. I tend to shoot a lot, and I didn’t want to be “that guy” responsible for ending the life of one of these rifles. At least I can finally put my dreams of a “poor mans garand” to rest! Appreciate the reply and the video itself man
My father in law has 3 or 4 of these Remington woodmasters chambered in 30-06 and this year my wife was picked for a cow moose hunt and she used her dad's woodmaster. She has never shot before but never hunted anything before and shot the gun she was using maybe 10 times tops, I'm talking 10 shots tops and it was easy for her but after shooting my bolt action 30-06 I will say the semi-auto definitely kicks less. I wish she would of had more time to practice and shoot with the gun but that's another story. I've looked for a used woodmaster for years and the prices are still ridiculous for guns that look like they were dragged behind a truck.
Really enjoyed this- thanks. I realize this is an older video but i was wondering if you wluld consider making one on your cleaning regime for this rifle? I recently purchased a really nice remington model four (slightly fancier than a regular 7400) and i have not quite figured out the best way to do regular cleaning. Thanks! Lorne
sweet shooters. owned a few over the last 60years but I gotta tell ya, the 760 or 7600 pump action is even sweeter and more accurate. Great story of how you got it.
Very nice rifle! I had a 7400 chambered in.30-06 , I regretfully sold it one day and after several years I ended up buying the latest rendition of the Remington semiautomatic rifle ( the model 750 Woodsmaster) chambered in .308 Winchester. I shoot the Hornady Superformance 165 grain SST’s pushing 2840 fps and it prints 3/4” groups at 100 yards all day long . What more could you ask for ?
It’s pretty special to me. My father hunts with one chambered in .30-06. Less than a 1 inch group...I’d say you couldn’t ask for better! 😉 Thanks for watching!
Had a 7400. Nothing but grief getting it to function! Had to redo powders to get it to cycle. It would constantly stove pipe brass. Or, it wouldn’t cycle the bolt far enough back to pick up the next round. I had to modify the magazine so it wouldn’t double feed. Finally got it to function and used it for a few years. Took a few deer with it. Sold it!
Everyone that has one of these has kind of the same story first kind of ever had was the same one you're holding they were selling it and JCPenney's and the salesman says do you want to fill out a JCPenney credit card and I just turned 18 I said okay so I bought a 7400 to 70 about 8 months later I went back to Penny's cuz they had a small gun counter in the gentleman said I had a revolving credit on my credit card and I was looking at another rifle was a universal 30 carbine he comes back from the back office you don't have $4,000 for credit over the next year and a half like but every gun in the counter the sad thing is I have none of them left but yesterday I purchased a Remington 7400 in 308 I'm now 63 years old and all the reasons are the same as you just mentioned nice video nice story take care
That's a cool story Mark! Imagine that...buying guns at JCPenny...my, how the world has changed! Congrats on the new gun and I'm glad you can relate to the story. Thanks for watching! 👍
I understand your reasons. And agree with them. NEVER sell that gun. It is a part of your History. I also think that the look of a gun is important. Best Wishes from Montana! M.H.
I am a fan of the 7400/7600 series, and the newer 750 series. I find the triggers a little two much lawyer proof though. Love the 30-06 and 270 calibers. As I get older, I find the 270 a bit easier on the shoulder and cheek bone...lol. Have you figured out who I am yet?
That's a beautiful 7400. I just picked up on, same caliber. I'm going to track down some wood furniture for it. It's the same type as yours with the metal etching. The previous owner swapped out the original furniture for cheap plastic!! Do you know what the sub model is with the designation for the etching and checkered forend? Great video from a fellow Maniac! Good luck out there.
My son has the 7400 in 308. It's amazingly accurate. It easily under 1 inch at a 100 yards. It's unfortunate they don't make them anymore and have no interest in doing so. I live near Remington in Ny. It's sad to see how bad Remington has become.
@@MaineOutdoorEnthusiast I live 30 minutes from Illion Ny where these guns were made and hunt in the Adirondacks. Everyone I hunt with uses the 7400 or the pump action 7600. It's truly sad that we can't go buy a new rifle today... Remington and the people who now run it are truly out of touch with its customers..
Hi Greg! I hear you..I've had absolutely no issues with jamming and I've used it hard (I do take care to keep it clean). Maybe I've been lucky...but I love it as well! Thanks for watching!
@@MaineOutdoorEnthusiast yes your right . Like you said seeing what your your dad had and that gets ingrained in a young mind . And we think so much of our dads . So in some way we want to be like them . Having the same gun is like a connection to them and past memories of hunting .
Liked your review. In 1983 I worked in a grocery store after school every night and weekends. My first rifle was a Remington 700 ADL in 222 Remington with a Bushnel Banner 4X scope. I took deer and antelope with it and lots of varmints. Does Maine see a heavy decline of deer hunters like Michigan does ? Its getting harder to hunt on private land anymore. The wealthy in MT bought up all the good areas and dont allow hunting. But yet they bitch when their range Rover hits a deer 🦌
Purchasing an item with a little “blood, sweat and tears” makes it that much more special. Yeah, Maine deer hunters are definitely aging. Fewer young people find interest in the sport and many have given up due to a decline in the deer herd. However, we are still very fortunate that Maine still has very large tracts of land open to the public. Love the bit about the Rover hitting deer 😂...so true! Thanks for watching 👍
Valco my friend. The perfect revenge: 3 months ago I seen the recent effects a late model Civic collides with seemingly a brand new Range Rover. The Civic had a mere dent and was driveable. But the Range Rover crappy front end fell apart into about 40 plastic shattered pieces. Had to be towed away. Lol
I appreciate a throwback perspective on this choice of hunting rifle. The dominance of long-range precision and military applications that have spilled over into hunting gear can be a little bit exhausting for me. There's more than one way to skin a cat.
The scope can make the happy difference. Top grade scope like Bushnell, Redfield, and Leupold can put you right on target. Gas operated rifles are fine choices. Just gotta keep em clean or it will foul and jam.
I own a model four. It was 1200 to buy but I've always wanted one for a while but was difficult to track until last year. Especially since I live in california I dont need to modify it. If i may ask what scope do you have?
That was my first gun as well, Paul. I worked at a grocery store to earn it. Unfortunately I sold it. Thinking about using a 30.06 model 74 I picked up a few years ago for tracking.
I own a 7400 carbine in 30-06 a good rifle but it failed me once on a really big buck ! I had jump this buck out of its bed got a quick shot off an shot over it on the first shot the next opportunity on the buck was a lay up at 30 yards ! Pulled the trigger an nothing the plastic bolt cover had shattered a jammed the bolt from closing! Hence the buck escaped! Why Remington went this route who knows? They should have gone to just a polished bolt like a Winchester model 100 or a Browning BAR or H&R semiautomatic! So lesson learned check the plastic dust cover on the 7400 for wear an cracks! Especially now the Remington is out of production those replacement covers will be hard to find!
If u send that out to BLACK ICE coatings,. They will coat everything inside n outside with a super military grade Teflon finish that fixes all the problems that the rem autos are known for. And they are rusting jamming machine without this process. My old 1965 742 runs like a champ now
Thanks for the reply. Love watching your videos! Love watching all the tracking videos from up in your neck of the woods. Seems absolutely Awesome way of hunting!
It'll always be my hunting grounds when I dream about hunting It's never came across my mind to leave maine or aroostook County I hunt alot of perham Blackstone ext. And I cant think of a better place to hunt besides right here at home!!!
I own many many rifles and the 742 just feels good like a shotgun or a candy bar and when running right is buttery smooth. Also it's a whole lot of horse power for a little bit of money Here in montana you can get a nice one for 400 to 500 bucks Never afraid in the woods with a wood master
Maintenance is key , if not they jam , magnum calibers in browning older model bar 1 and 2 can be jammer even clean , new models of browning terrible to many parts to clean , remington also keep them clean, but also ,,remington or browning, there alot of lemons in the auto business
@@MaineOutdoorEnthusiast one thing about semi with 270 the follow up shot is so quick u never lose target , in Saskatchewan once -35 brutal cold ,a 14 pointer scoring 163 stepped out in a clearing frozen marsh 50 yards , I put 2 bullets in him before he jumped up when he landed to run , he fell flat-out, my semi fired in that cold like a charm , after that I fired 3 more shots to see if it would jam and call my friends to help me get deer out the woods , it performed flawless , keep those semi clean boys
@@MaineOutdoorEnthusiast oil is ur enemy, lube all parts then wipe for below weather 😉, oil jams in cold plus gets dirty faster ,more jamming ,plus when u finish hunting for the day never I mean never bring gun in house it will sweat get wet next day u go out rust and jam frozen , leave gun outside in trunk or shed 😀 etc , semi are fun shooting, they are not super precise but man they shoot well on running animals 👍
@@antoniofiammelli1792 my Remington 740 from 1955 shoots 1 1/2 moa. With federal 180grn. It's a 30 06. Feeds perfect Everytime idk where their bad rep comes from.
Beautiful gun,I had a 742 woodsmaster that was my grandfather’s in .308…it got stolen out of my truck.I have the serial number in my wallet, every time I see one in .308 I look to see if it’s mine…good luck right!
You certainly made me think, my 7400 is bought with money i earned, early 80s with my father. Just dropped a doe with a hart shot with it. I started reloading, when find what it likes, groups of 1/4in. Call it my meat & potatoes gun.
The Remington Model 7400, Remington Model 7600, and the Remington Model Seven are three of my all time favorite hunting rifles. And the Remington Model 870 is one of the best shotguns ever made. Remington used to make some amazing firearms. It's a damn shame what happened to that company. Their new stuff is complete garbage. I don't buy any of their guns made after 2018 when they went bankrupt for a second time. That's when their quality went to shit.
I got a carbine 7600 in 3006 and it shoots a remington 180 swift A frame...I don't need the perfect bullet in the mountains of north Carolina..but in Maine with 200 to 275 pound deer ..yes a 3006 with a 180 swift A frame...my big deer after 45 years of hunting public land was 229 with a mossburg 12 gauge pump..3" with 10 000 buckshot..Maine probably doest sell buckshot...but the 18. 5" 3006 7600 is perfect for stalking the biggest white tails on the planet..by the way the 229 at 70 yards in a tree lounge got hit with one pellet at the base of the neck and one at the bridge of the nose and it stumbled 20' and dropped..don't ask me why big buckshot is that effective but it is...have you ever heard of hunting in Maine with buckshot?
Follow-up shot? Better be taking another animal with that second shot or else it means you aren’t treating the animal properly, imo. I shot my buddy’s 30-06 model this past weekend to zero it in while I zeroed my rifle in, as well. It is definitely a decently accurate rifle that will take deer. I just gotta point out your bias because I bought my M77 MII All Weather in .308 at 14 years old and I’m a total fanboy about my first rifle because of that.
Yup, follow-up shots😉. Hunting Northern Maine woods is pretty unique. You’re correct about my bias...it’s a special gun way beyond any technical aspects. Thanks for watching and good luck this fall!
I have a 740 but the jokes on you, you arent feeling the wood at all because there is a polymer finish covering that wood so you are feeling polymer. You should be saying you like the look of wood.
I've shot a few of those. That was in the later years of Remington. If I remember correctly, I feel like the 750 woodsmaster was poor quality, but I could be wrong (it was a long time ago😁). Thanks for watching!
@@MaineOutdoorEnthusiast you consider 2006-2010 the later years ????????????? Remingtion has gone to shit and I would not buy a newer one but the 750 was a special order and I never seen another one period But I agree it’s sad that Ruger and Savage make better guns then Remingtion now.
@dannysavagedraftguru later years refers to the end of Remingtons run of making guns vs early yrs would refer to the younger days of Remington (aka older guns)…so yes, later years. I definitely agree, the quality of their guns became a disappointment to say the least😞

I appreciate all your videos Paul, thanks for sharing, and helping shorten the forever long 11 month wait. Take care buddy
Nice! I’ve always liked Brownings guns! It’s so much fun, isn’t it! It’s definitely a long 11 months. Glad I could help shorten it up😉. Take care!
I shot my first deer in Maine 1980 I used a Winchester Model 94 3030. I have since found a place in my heart for Remington 760's.nearly 40 years later .
Awesome Clinton! I’d like to shoot another with Model 94.
@@MaineOutdoorEnthusiast I'm thinking it's going to be the 94 this year in the Black Hills of South Dakota.
Do it! 😉
Nice shooting! I love a .270. 👍
Just got my grandfathers 7400 from my mom today. Oiled it up and sighted it in. Excited to take it out this season
That’s pretty sweet! Good luck and have fun!
@@MaineOutdoorEnthusiast do you have any recommendations for aftermarket wood stocks? I would love to add some just for the looks.
Easton, I don’t. It’s something I have thought about but haven’t really researched yet.
@@MaineOutdoorEnthusiast Thank you for taking the time to reply! Best of luck this season
I agree with your view on aesthetics. I it just adds to the hunting pleasure. Often find myself admiring my own rifle when sitting in my stand.
I do the same 😁
Beautiful setup!
Thanks! I love the 7600's...such a well balanced rifle.
Thanks! Am hunting up in eastern ontario with this gun for the 1st time this yeat. Have always used bolt actions but i love the lines on this gun.
Sweet! Good luck!
I have the same reasons only mine is an old Belgian browning bar grade ll .
Nice!👍
Growing up in north eastern Maine this was always a popular gun usually in 30-06 my uncle use to take a Maine moose every year with a 7400 in 30-06
My favorite 😁
Awesome video. I must say that particular gun especially being a 270. Having no issues is rare especially in northern Maine weather conditions. One of my favorite all-time rifles also love the pump action.
Yeah, I love the pump action too!
I had one in 30-06 carbine 1.5 ×4.5 Lpld. IT did very well, best deer rifle I had, it brings back good memories, lots of tags filled, nice.
Awesome! Thanks for sharing 😁
Great video, THANKS! I have my Grandpa’s 742 in 280 Rem. I like the 7600 mags bc you don’t need 3 hands to drop the magazine
Thanks! Good point on dropping mag 🤣
Probably my favorite rifle too. 7600 is a close second.
Guns like kids are a lot of hard work, but we get out of them what we put into the love and care we put into them.
So true Victor! Well said 👍
Great video! Well said. Nothing at all wrong with liking and loving what you have and for your reasons only! I absolutely love my 742!
Thanks Chris!
Great video. You picked a great looking rifle and the scope is perfect for how you hunt.
I use a 308 Browning BAR in the North Alabama hardwoods.
Thanks! It has served me well. I love the BAR as well.
Thanks Shane! Thanks for the comment. That gun is pretty special...it’s been on a lot of memorable hunts! I hope you enjoy your 7400 as much as I do mine.😁 Thanks again for the sub 👍
MINE IS CHAMBERED IN 30.06 LOVE IT REALLY NICE GUN AND IT;S A CARBINE
Nice! Beautiful buck in your profile pic👍
Got my 7400 Carbine in 93 deer season since it has taken 28 deer. Retired it to the safe now a Ruger American in odd 6 took its place and that took its first deer at 260 yards. 😊
I love all your reasons. AND, they are largely the same ones I have. great video
Thanks!
Nice! The model 94 is pretty special to me 😉
I have the same one. 175th Anniversary Edition. Has the logo engraved on the receiver plate.
Nice! Beautiful guns👍
Wow! When my dad was stationed at Loring in the late seventies, it did some potato and rock picking. Hard work, bitter cold as well. Hope all is well with Maine.
You learn a lot as a kid on a farm! Glad you could relate😁
Beautiful rifles remington made back in the day--- i just ordered a 7600 pump in 308... cannot wait to get it... im almost debating on the 7400 in 308 with synthetic stock too
It's a shame they are no longer made. I took it for granted back in the day😢
@@MaineOutdoorEnthusiast i bet your not the only one.. i bet people did that too with lever actions .. the marlins and the winchesters
In todays prices for these used guns.. its quite high.
I've heard that from a lot of guys that some ammo just doesn't cycle well. Thanks for sharing!
Love the semi autos! I have a 742 woodsmaster 308 i always look for 742 and 7400s love them
Nice! Yeah, sometimes you can find some smoking deals.
I rock a Browning BAR love it !
Hi Cody! Browning makes a mighty fine gun😉
Which model, it’s what I have too but it’s too heavy to track 20 miles up mountains in your hands
I have similar tastes. Voere Model 2185 semi-auto in 30-06. It spent 5 years as a display rifle, gun shows Ontario & Quebec.
Got a superb deal on it!
Very interesting. First time hearing of Voere. Thanks for sharing!
I love these guns, they fit me like a glove
😁 I agree
I sold my first gun years ago, it was the old post-64 Winchester 94 30-30s it was a junker compared to the pre-64 94s. I don't regret it, I made a bad first gun choice, you didn't. Good job.
My dad has one that he bought way back in either the late 80's or early 90's. I am no 100% sure, but he said he would gift it to me when I am ready to start hunting. Excited to get into it.
That’s fantastic! Guns are wonderful heirlooms...each one has a story.🙂
My bear and deer rifle is a Tikka T3x lite roughtech with ember stock in 30-06. Scope is Leupold VX-5HD 2-10x42. All of it weighs 7.75 pounds.
Awesome! Pretty cool!
@@MaineOutdoorEnthusiast Barnes 150gr is its favorite. I get 1/2” group at 100 yards and yes it is very aesthetically pleasing.
Did the 7400 remedy the issues that plagued previous models with the bolt chewing up the rails on the inside of the receiver?
Awesome! Yeah, the recoil difference is noticeable. Easier to stay on target with follow-up shots than say a 7600!
Thanks! Lorne
Hey Lorne, glad you enjoyed it! I definitely will. Sounds like a good post deer season video. Enjoy the new gun!
sweet shooters. owned a few over the last 60years but I gotta tell ya, the 760 or 7600 pump action is even sweeter and more accurate. Great story of how you got it.
Thanks! I’ve had fun with the 7600.
Thanks for watching!
Great video!! Nice rifle. I have a 742 in 308 and it's very comfy. I've always wanted to hunt in Maine but no idea on where to go.
Hi TJC! Thanks! They’re a great gun. Maine has lots of options open to the public. However, the deer get sparse the further north you go.
My dad dropped a bear in 1998 with a 30-06 7400 in oxbow Maine what a great rifle !
Awesome!
Sold it!
I hear those stories a lot. Seems to be hit or miss. Every 7400 I’ve used I’ve fired functioned flawlessly. Pretty cool you took some deer with it!
Hey Mike! I never plan on selling a gun😉...hopefully they will be enjoyed for generations to come. Thanks for watching!
I almost bought a a 750 back in 2007...wish I would have 😳! Haha!...I’m working on it!
I agree, I prefer the 270 slightly more as well
That's a beautiful 7400.
Nice! Oh no…why the plastic 🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️. I’ll check the sub model when I get home next week. Good luck to you also!
My son has the 7400 in 308. It's amazingly accurate. It easily under 1 inch at a 100 yards. It's unfortunate they don't make them anymore and have no interest in doing so. I live near Remington in Ny. It's sad to see how bad Remington has become.
I agree with you. I’ve found my 7400 to be accurate. It’s hard to watch companies go under and/or be bought out. Thanks for watching!

Thanks! I agree...if it's not broke, don't fix it😉
The scope can make the happy difference. Top grade scope like Bushnell, Redfield, and Leupold can put you right on target. Gas operated rifles are fine choices. Just gotta keep em clean or it will foul and jam.
Good points! Thanks for watching!
I own a model four. It was 1200 to buy but I've always wanted one for a while but was difficult to track until last year. Especially since I live in california I dont need to modify it. If i may ask what scope do you have?
Nice! The scope is a Leupold 1.5-5 vari-x iii.
What a great video. All good points sir. And nice rifle.
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it👍
That was my first gun as well, Paul. I worked at a grocery store to earn it. Unfortunately I sold it. Thinking about using a 30.06 model 74 I picked up a few years ago for tracking.
Awesome! It’s pretty cool how the work we put into acquiring something make it that much more special!
That’s a bummer! The 7400 has treated me good so far. But hey, anything can happen!
I just picked up a 7400 today 1990 is in mint condition 😊
Nice!👍
Your last statement was the best. If its not broke dont fix it. Enough said.
👍. Thanks for watching!
If u send that out to BLACK ICE coatings,. They will coat everything inside n outside with a super military grade Teflon finish that fixes all the problems that the rem autos are known for. And they are rusting jamming machine without this process. My old 1965 742 runs like a champ now

I agree! I have very little interest in deer hunting anywhere else. There is nothing like Maine!
I own many many rifles and the 742 just feels good like a shotgun or a candy bar and when running right is buttery smooth.
Also it's a whole lot of horse power for a little bit of money
Here in montana you can get a nice one for 400 to 500 bucks
Never afraid in the woods with a wood master
Hi Lenard! I agree...I love how they handle and they are the right price. It’s something I don’t mind dragging through the woods all day 👍
Maintenance is key , if not they jam , magnum calibers in browning older model bar 1 and 2 can be jammer even clean , new models of browning terrible to many parts to clean , remington also keep them clean, but also ,,remington or browning, there alot of lemons in the auto business
Hi Antonio. I agree!
163! Wow! Yeah, you hear about instances where people use poor oil and the gun fails to fire in cold weather.

Some of my favorite guns for sure! It is a shame to see an old American company go to the wayside.
Merry Christmas!👍
In Maine 3006 would be a smarter pick
🤔
That’s interesting! One thing about hunting the big woods of Maine, most shots are 50 yards or closer.
🤦♂️ the things people perseverate on 😂
Jam-o-matic
Nope 😉
750 woods master more rare especially in 35 whelen Carbine so I hear

Thanks! You’re 100% right. I wouldn’t care nearly as much if it didn’t have the meaning behind it…glad you can relate!👍
Love the Barrett analogy 😂
That rifle with 150 grn round nose bullets is a darn good combo. I used to hunt in Wesley Maine so I know yr situation. I now live in Montana and where I hunt that rifle would be perfect. I'm looking for one in 35 whelen. This is a very good video
Thanks Erick! Glad you enjoyed it. I hope you find a nice one! 35 whelen would be awesome.
