Always a pleasure to spend time in your company Dave.
🙏🏻
Beautiful autumn colours indeed. Thanks Dave!
🙏🏻
Hi Dave. Beautiful scenes brilliantly captured. You were one of the first wild camping you tubers I started watching. The winter camps when you are alone in tent chatting away are still the best content out there. I also lose things in tent in winter. Especially in my Hilleberg nallo which like most hilleberg tents has not enough pockets! Also have real problems with cold hands and feet. Amazes me when I’m out with someone else who is gloveless pitching their tent and I’m in a world of pain because I’ve taken my gloves off for 30 seconds!
Really appreciate that Gary. Thank you.
Haha. Glad it’s not just me that loses stuff 🤦🏻♂️. ATB
Beautiful view and skys sunrise amazing x
"Fight with a chicken" hahaha love it, another excellent video Dave.
😁👍
A thoroughly enjoyable video as always and stunning views to enjoy!
Great video Dave 👍🏻
Nice one 👍 I always find it takes a few camps to readjust to the winter camps in sub zero temperature 🥶. Thermarest are on the last chance saloon with me. On my third x lite as in many years.all warranty replacements. First one of the chambers separated and blew up while on a camp. The second one started deflating and couldn't find a hole. Turned out it was a faulty valve. On my third now so far so good 🤞. Also got a Cumulus quilt it's the 350 and it's been amazing. It's getting on a bit now and losing a bit of its loft so I just got myself a Zenbivy (somewhere in-between a sleeping bag and quilt) Hoping to test it out on Wednesday night.
Nice one Steven. I’m gonna patch up the cumulus quilt hopefully I’ll get away with it. Yeah, definitely takes a few camps to get into winter camping mode🥶. I just sent my extherm the back to Thermarest Hopefully will get replaced. ATB
Very goood thanks man 👍🏻💯💯
It’s always the thing we fear the worst I’d say, gear failure in minus temps. Picked a cracking spot for the sunrise. It’s the hands I struggle with too. Was the main reason I got that wee heater. Glad to see your able to get the back pack on and get out in the lakes again. ATVB Robert
Yeah, not great Robert. ATB pal 👍
Hi Dave! The Xlite valves are easy to replace/repair, if that's the issue. Mine developed a slow leak at the valve. I just pulled the valve assembly out (it's just pressed in), applied fresh grease to the O-ring, and reinstalled it. No problems since then! Just Google how to do it. 👍
That opneing drone shot was one of the best youve done Dave. Lakes looks mega on a brigiht winter's day.
Big thanks Stephen. Glad you enjoyed it. ATB ⛰️
thank you love the views .. for your cold hands maybe try silk inner gloves biker gear
Thanks Wendy. Yeah, I need to get some 🧤 👍
Good to see you back in the cold stuff mate lol
🥶😁👍
Love your stuff Dave. It's Real.
Keep the faith
PS I suffer with cold hands too. Feel the pain. Made me cry in public relexively
Cheers Bert. Glad you enjoyed it. ATB 👍
Gets me when it's freezing doors wide open I've an allac take some small round candles proper warm it up takes the chill out but topvent open stop in and outing atb pal
I always leave the door open as long as I can Gary to get the views out. The wind was hitting the back of the tent so wasn’t too draughty in the door while it was open. Thanks for watching 👍
I've had nights when it all goes Pete Tong and there's feathers everywhere and I've breathed loads in and coughed my lungs up lol . I walked up where you camped not so long back and was accompanied by a short eared owl .
Hey nice one. Never saw any owls up there. Think it was a bit too windy for them. Thanks for watching and all the best.
Have been waiting for this one since we chatted to you on your way up Lonscale Fell and it didn’t disappoint. Some cracking views at sunset and sunrise. Thought of you as we tucked into Fish and Chips in the Keswickian and later turned up the van heater 😉 Great to meet you and keep up the great work.
Ha ha, it was great to meet and chat with you guys. Glad you enjoyed the video. “Van heater” 🔥 . Stop it 😫😂👍
Stunning sunrise, lovely colours! Shame about the kit, I've heard of several people having issues with thermarest mats. I use an exped, so comfortable and warm.
Cheers Liz. I’ve got an Exped downmat myself. It’s the warmest and most comfortable pad I’ve ever used. Unfortunately, it’s way too heavy and bulky so I rarely use it now.
Amazing video Dave 🐔👍🏻
Great stuff, Dave. Some ornithologist will find those feathers and, before you know it, there'll be talk of goose predation by a Big Cat on Lonscale Fell.😂
🤣👍
That's ace mate you kept that up id love to get that many camps in a year but mega mate keep that up
Stunning Dave !
Wow that looks 🥶🥶
Atb Graham
The cold is definitely here Dave!
Your intros btw mate, superb 😁
Hope you're keeping well.
Adge
Cheers bud 👍
Had a cheeky one camp up Lonscale myself last month. First time up there. Cracking little lump. Great vid as always mate, unlucky on your loss to the chicken.
Haha 😂 🐥 👍
Not watched for a while Dave and it popped up on my phone, so bottle of wine opened and immersed myself in to the video on TH-cam. Great video and genuinely relate to you out of all the vids I watch. Everyone is different but you where my original and others followed , they all have their own edge but your still the one I seem to connect with. Anyway you seem to have a few niggles here and there ! I got to 57 without any issues ! Then it was all down hill, now I struggle up and down the stairs, as iv mentioned before, so love connecting with you guys. Keep up the great work.
Barry G
Ps: You did meet my lad when he was bagging (Paul) when he put you on to me 😊 fairways to hills I think he calls himself. He's taken up my mantle and loves the solitude of the hills, although he takes his daughter up a lot too.
Cheers Barry. Yeah, I’ve met Paul in the lakes before. He’s a great lad. ATB
Great video mate. Amazing views.
Ta bud 👍
Great video Dave, -14 windchill 🥶. I've given up with inflatable pads and moved to a Nimo Switchback, not sure what temperature it's good for with a R1.9 but I did think about doubling up and using it as a half mat or even getting a second one as I think they would interlock. Definitely need a bigger tent when spending so many hours. Really enjoyable video and glad to hear your back is much better. ❤
Much appreciated. Thanks for watching and glad you enjoyed it 🙏🏻
Great video Dave. I shall look out for you in the hills when I’m in the Lakes from 8th December for a week. Think I might add that walk to my list. No camping for me, I shall be in a warm lodge 😀
Nowt wrong with that Judy. Nice and cosy in a warm Lodge. Enjoy!
What a spot this one is, great vid Dave. Might be worth giving Scottish Mountain Gear a call regards the quilt, think they repair most outdoor gear. 🤙🏼
Thanks for the info👍. I’ve patched it up for now. Seems okay. See how it goes. ATB
Great video again Dave and I’m glad your backs healing.
Try a Big Agnes Rapide XL, I think you’ll love it, it’s the best pad I’ve ever owned.
Thanks for the info 👍
Evening Dave. What a fantastic camp mate. I was out in the Langdales last Wednesday and there were the four jets circling all afternoon. They made two passes down Great Langdale.
As for our hands, I get the same thing mate, my forefingers on both hands end up going white, you could hit them with a hammer and I wouldn’t feel owt. I’ve order one of those Oocuppa hand warmers, hoping that helps like it does with you.
All the best mate. 🥶🏔️🥾🏕️
Cheers Dave. Yeah, the cold is horrible on my hands. When it’s really cold, I can’t feel my fingers and my hands are useless. All good fun though, eh 🥶😁👍
Great stuff Dave, really enjoyed that one. Proper winter camp. Have you seen that Ocoopa do the mini hand warmers that fit inside your gloves - may be useful for you👍
Cheers Brian. Thanks for the heads up on the hand warmers. I’ll check them out 👍
Yet another cracking video! Glad to hear your back is getting better. Your hard work is appreciated.
🙏🏻
I need some time off work. I doubt I will get out until the Xmas holiday now. You’ve put me right in the mood for phoning in sick 😂 albeit my boss knows I still come in if I’d died. 🙄. Happy camping Dave
Ha ha. Glad you enjoyed it. Hopefully you’ll be out soon.ATB ⛺️⛰️👍
beautiful photography and story telling as always. so glad that your on the mend.
Much appreciated Gary 🙏🏻. ATB
Fight with a chicken 🤣🤣. Thanks for another beautifully shot video Dave. Glad you're back is getting better. What tent is that mate, 60th in a couple of months and I need to treat myself 🤣. All the best Gus 👍
Nice one. Belated HBD 🎂 . It’s a Hilleberg Allak 2. Go on. Treat yourself. You’re worth it ⛺️😁👍
Ugh. My NeoAir XLite failed spectacularly on me during a particularly rough camp last winter too. I sold the replacement Thermarest sent as I just didn’t trust it anymore. Shame you ran into issues but an enjoyable video nonetheless and some great photography 😊
Yeah. Know what you mean. Thanks for watching. Glad you enjoyed it 👍
Gorgeous morning...fight with a chicken 😂😂😂....good old Zlite. My Matt's been going down. Pain in the ass...... Beautiful shots. And glad about your back mate! 👌
Cheers bud. Stay safe and well 👍
Drone footage amazing Dave 👍 I hope you treated yourself to a full English once back in town 😋
Big thanks as always Kenny 🙏🏻. Was too late for breakfast. Missed it 🤦🏻♂️. ATB
Great shots from your freezing winter camp Dave. The ones of the sunrise were stunning. Thanks for sharing 👍👏👏👏
Cheers Dave 👍
Pete Tong and Soup 🥣 😊 my guy 😂😂
😁👍
👌 Brilliant as always. Just wrote a story book, but it looks like it didnt post 🤔good really as i waffled on a bit to much
😁👍
Covent Garden soup! Someone's gone up in the world. Very nice! Thanks for the updates. It's good to see you're out and on the mend. Thanks for uploading, Dave. BTW do you wear liner gloves underneath your bigger gloves/mits? 🏔👍
Cheers Gary glad you enjoyed it. Yeah, that soup is about 10 quid cheaper than those bloody dehydrated meals. No, not got any liner gloves yet. Keep meaning to get some. I must do.ATB
Always a nice watch Dave. I know about cold hands I have nerve damage in my neck and it affects my arms and hands my hands are always cold even on a warm day it's worse in winter I have chargeable hand warmers they are nice be well Dave
Cheers, Norman.
Oh, that sounds painful with your arms and hands. Take care 🙏🏻
That looked like a cold one Dave but what a pitch 👌. I completely lost my faith with the Thermarest quality of recent years. Before i started using these lightweight mats i had one of the classic so-called self-inflating Thermarest for well over 25 years and apart from it never ever self in inflating once i got it inflated iot never once let me down and then when the 1st generation xtherm came out i bought one of those which never let me down but then i went down the road of the xlite and the newer xtherm model and it turned into a right fiasco with deflations and issues with the internal layers on the xlite so i just gave up in the end. Customer service with Thermarest is top notch biut i just want a mat thats going to stay inflated and keep me warm and so far the Nemo EC has done exactly that with no negative issues whatsoever plus i find it more comfy being a side sleeper
Cheers Olan. I’ve just sent my Thermarest XTherm back. Hopefully it will be replaced. Thanks for the heads up on the pad that you’re using👍. I’ll definitely have a look at that. All the best, pal.
@TheSoloSummiteer your welcome Dave
A fantastic camp Dave. I think that was probably one of my 1st solo camps up there back in January 2023. I had similar conditions to u, clear blue skies but really cold. I’m gona have myself a z lite mat just for that extra protection, I had an incident on my last camp when after a brief walk on top, got back to tent and the mat was flat, luckily I’d left the valve slightly open. Ive got the z lite sit pad and that’s fantastic, but having the mat is also great if anything does go wrong with your mat. Great to see u out again. ATB Pete
Cheers Peter. Yeah, the ZLite are well worth carrying just in case. ATB
Great post as always Dave. Looked bloody freezing 🥶
Hope you sort you sleeping mat & bag out. Could I ask what Rucksack you were using. Thanks Barry
Cheers Barry. The rucksack is an Osprey Atmos 65. It’s a great pack.Atb
🤣Fight with a chicken... LOL I was just thinking whoever came up that way afterwards has probably spent ages trying to work out what bird has been killed by a raptor up there! Try Lancashire Sports Repairs for sleeping bag/quilt repairs. I've used them for jackets and sleeping bag tears and zips. Not fast as they're so busy but very reasonable and they do a good job.
That bloody chicken 🐓 😂👍
A seam had split on the quilt so I’ve taped it up for now. Seems okay. See how it goes.
Thanks for watching as always, Irene. Glad you enjoyed it. 😁
@ you carry enough in that rucksack without adding a chicken to the weight! Maybe you could train it to walk at heel…🤪
Dear god 😵💫😂
Hope you get the cumulus repaired /replaced
Dave just checked their site and they’ve a warranty. Hope you get sorted
PS great vid as per usual 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
I’ve patched it up for now, Jack. See how it goes 🤞
Cool film dave, shame about your bag , how did you get a hole in it ? , great camp mate and take care , looks like you got the better of the chicken 😂, looks decent up there though, great views walking back eh
Glad you enjoyed it. It looks like the seam has come undone on the quilt. I’ve patched it up for now hopefully it will be okay. See how it goes. Yeah, wait till I find that bloody chicken 🐓 😁👍
That path to Skiddaw rings a bell. You think you're gaining by using the underskiddaw car park at 300m , wrong the ascent (400 to 600) is brutal . After that it's Ok, but on the day I went the clag rolled in when I got to the top. Choker. BR John.
Yeah that Jenkin Hill part is an absolute slog. It’s hard work downhill too. I’ve been up Skiddaw five times and still never seen the view from the top as clag always rolls in.
Yeah, Skiddaw is definitely a cloud magnet.
Yeah, it’s a real slog for sure 🥵
Great video Dave!, can't wait to get out there myself!!
Never been up on Lonscale, been over Skiddaw but looks like it'll be a new on to have a night one!
I need to somehow cut down on the weight in the pack as I usually run at like 20KG even in the Summer!
Glad you enjoyed it 👍. Yeah, 20 kg is a killer James. Lugging heavy rucksacks up mountains is starting to take its toll on my body. It’s not that I can’t do it, I can, but afterwards I pay for it with aches and pains and injuries.
Should have called the video, I had a fight with a chicken.
😂👍
👋🏼
Gokozy heated fleece is the way to go Dave. I've just bought one. Alan Metalman reviewed it on his channel. BR John
Nice one. I’ll have a look at them 👍
Hi Dave, try stretching your lateral rotators in the buttock (Piriformis etc), muscle energy works best for me. Ask your Physio to check for pelvic tilt. In thirty years of practice, I find Pelvic tilt 80% of the time while treating lower back/hip pain. Two or three treatments, plus exercises and done!
Many thanks Mike 👍
Feathers are natural. I think it's forgivable 🙂
Hope so 😁👍.
What tent were you in Dave? Not the hilliberg soulo is it ?
Allak 2
Yeah Hilleberg Allak 2 ⛺️👍
Hi Dave idk where I commented on what vid but I can’t find it so I’m going to put it again(not forcing)…. My grandad loves your channel and always tells me when u post my grandad loves going on walks so do you mind giving mick D a shout out pls from Grace x
Awesome views! Really enjoyed that, great job. New sub from us.
Thanks guys. Much appreciated. All the best 🙏🏻
What failed????
Great video,my winter gear is all ready to go and fingers crossed out in the lakes in a week or so and decided to invest in a Western Moutaineering Bison Sleeping bag -40 imported from USA 🇺🇸 💰💰💰. Has to be be second only to Feathered Friends Snowy Owl -60
That sounds lush. I believe WM are real quality 👌🏻
Glad you are back out Dave. LOL at the 'selfie stick shadows'. Watching this I'm glad of the central heating and the Nest controls!
Aye, that bloody sun plays havoc with the shadows 😁
