You can pack the Storm star down to a size that is just bigger than the Hilleberg Soulo. You can pack it quite small and pack it into a 40ltr Kakawa sideways on.
Nice to see the Vern 1 being put to the test. I've had mine out in up to 45mph gusts and with no issues at all. The uprated poles make all the difference.
@Fellmandave1 yeah that's true but I think it will be great for spring and summer and it was a great deal during the Kuiu sale which included the footprint and gear loft
The storm star was far more stable, and there is no need for any extra treking poles to support it, unlike the vern 1. To compare the two side by side, he needed to show the inner and outer of both throughout the video. Had he done this, he would have clearly seen and demonstrated better stability, less inner flapping, etc, of the Kuiu Storm star. There is no need to sleep at an angle in the Kuiu Storm star 2. The Storm star 2 is cavernous inside, plenty of space, and with a negligible weight difference to say that Kuiu storm star 2 is a two person tent. Take away the treking poles on the Vern one, then compare.
Great video as always, just curious, I have a banshee 300 and a oex hyena II, how do you think they would have stood up to the stormy conditions that night?
I'm from United States Arizona I've had the storm star in 80 mile hour winds great tent so is the Nord tent. But the best tent of the world I know is the hilleberg the Black label That's a fact my friends in Europe. By the way great video
@Fellmandave1 My opinion is the Black label soulo is a great tent with professional highly quality tent and what I like is it's made in Europe not in China I hope I don't piss anybody off. And I love your videos they're great
Cheers Nick. Great to hear the SS can manage such things. The soulo is the boy to be sure, just not a lot of space compared to these. Thanks again for commenting.
"I have got quite a lot of floor condensation...and in these conditions it's no surprise". Is that because of the inner letting water through after touching the outer? Or is it actual condensation? I have had condensation on single-wall tents on the inner/condensation against the outer with double wall tent and a slight film of damp on my 4-season tent inner walls with really ghastly weather but no issues with a damp/wet ground floor. (I do use a ground floor). My choice is the KUIU here.
I noticed as you showed the wind speed in the morning that a couple of the clips that attach to the poles were undone, had you done that or had they come off during the night?
Well, you can think whatever you want but............... I have a Hilleberg Keron, a KUIU Storm Star and a Nortent Ly 3 (and others, not that I am a tent fetishist or anything), and in those conditions, without doubt, it would be the Storm Star that I would put in my pack. Hilleberg fanbois just make me smile, they just can't accept that there are other tents that are just as good!
@bobmatthew9538 Even the Hilleberg tents leak sometimes. My name is David and i am a tentoholic. I've been a recovering tentoholic for many years now. I have the Hilliberg Soulo and the Kuiu storm star 2, plus other tents. I admit that my addiction is not easing😂😂😂😂😂
Anyone interested in any tent from Nortent they have 25% off, leaving you only the DHL shipping to pay, as Nortent take care of the import duties, it’s a great deal
I can't answer for the Vern 1, but the latest batch of Nortent Ly's are now coming seem sealed from the factory, I was pleasantly surprised to find (with seam sealer, not tape)
I've had it out in nasty conditions. 50mph measured gusts. Although I was a little more sheltered from where I took that so possibly a bit less.. Anyway it held up fantastically. And the good thing because pc is hardly any noise whatsoever. I actually had to get out to make sure the wind was still raging. This was with the old poles, and the original version... IMO the PC due to the fabric is a stronger tent.. (I've had the vern 1 as well. Decided to keep the PC. Of the two.
You say cons to the storm star is price and pros to the vern 1 is price. Storm star 2 man with ground sheet is £550 Vern 1 man without ground sheet is £490 Not sure why ppl compare 1 man tents with 2 man tent. Not trying to be a 🍆 just my opinion.. like the vids tho 👍
Loved the comment, "In a rare moment of common sense." Two great storm worthy tents set in beautiful surroundings. Enjoyable video as usual.
Thank you kindly!

Cant do it all Dave, trying to enjoy myself and get out the storm a bit too. I did say and agree that the SS was more stable. I do have one too!
I saw the other video when yoj had the storm star
How is nobody commenting on the storm burt trousers and pants helicopter comment! Literally laughed out loud.
Great video, both tents looked solid. Briefly had a few hefty gusts on my recent camp, I quite like the excitement!
Hedley Thorne- Storm Chaser. Definately has a ring to it!
Great video as always, just curious, I have a banshee 300 and a oex hyena II, how do you think they would have stood up to the stormy conditions that night?
@Outaboutdetecting Thank you, but sorry, have no experience of these except using a Banshee 200 in modest conditions!
great to see another wind test on a tent one question was it the wind that kept you awake or just not sleepy
@Paul-hl4cj Partly the wind and partly the thumping head and dry mouth from the Whisky to be honest.

Dave were you using the new 9.5mm poles?
yes
Ive put my storm star in a compression sack and it packs down much smaller than the bag it comes in
I did that and tore off one of the vent struts!
I see that nortent recommend seam sealing the fly on the Vern 1. Is this really necessary, I would prefer to buy a tent already waterproof.
@madmarshman Optional. I used mine in the wet with light seam beading before seam sealing. Gets better with use. I have done it now, still dry!
