As in: a plain woman will "look cute" while playing with a child or an animal or otherwise doing something spontaneous and unselfconscious. And making an effort to look cute is the very antithesis of cuteness.

I don't think she tried going for another guy. I think the guy just found out he was dealing with a basket full of crazy. She's good looking and succesfull, so now thinks she doesn't have to contribute anything to the relationship. She wants the guy to take care of her, not the other way around. However the guy is good looking and successful too, so now what? She takes it out on the guy for not treating her like some average guy would, by taking care of whatever she wants. I actually had this conversation with a woman once, myself. Where she wanted to be "equals" and I told her that if she wanted that, there are a thousand guys outside the door who will do that, but she's in here with me. That if I have to be a King to get her attention, then I'm King in the relationship, as well.
That we are not equals, so why would I treat her as such? That for me to almost completely devalue myself so that we can pretend to make her feel better... She won't like that and she's going to want to leave anyhow, so why bother? It's funny how so many women will argue against that because they want parity in the relationship, when even in the relationship itself, I have to carry it.
