Came across your video I’m planning on making my old all in one salt take into a fresh water tank hoping for live plants with bluegill. My light is a radion xr15 ant thoughts on using that light. And any plants that the bluegill won’t destroy?
I'm a total newbie and really appreciate your videos!! I went to my local store which has been around since I was a kid with a great reputation... and I found the young kid working who is obsessed and a total fish nerd... his passion totally won me over - he suggested a lot of what you're talking about... In late May, I set up a 20-gallon tank with an EHEIM classic 350 for my daughter's birthday. She is obsessed with baby shark, so I got 6 GloFish long fin tetras. I got a bunch of different rocks, driftwood, spider wood and a bunch of plants. I used a bunch of easy root tabs to start - and wish I paid more attention to the plant names. My plants are doing good but it's nice to hear about melting... I going to adjust my lighting height and see how that affects my plants...Thanks for all the tips!! Loving this & becoming obsessed myself!!
Heavily planted aquarium and sponge filters is all you need ..it’s all I use ..and all I will ever use ..tanks are thriving ..the key is right light and spectrum and plants and sponge filter ..water changes once a month for my bio load ..and boom happy fish keeper ✌🏻
Great tutorial, even if a bit rushed. Could you maybe do a video on some different types of plants that'd be good in nano tanks, besides anubius and crypts. For background, mid and front (including some without runners). I have a 5.5 gallon and would like a little more variety. Like some grass-like midground that my fish can swim through. Just a thought. Or maybe just a couple of suggestions? Thanks Chris, even if you don't do one.
Been following your channel for a little bit now but wish I was following you from the beginning dude .Over that little bit of time you have helped me out as I've been keeping fish an plants for a couple years now had a few problems here and there I watched a couple of your videos know my problems have been Fixed thank you 😊
Just set up my aquarium I hope it does good, I knew the water wasnt going to be perfect and looks like I got a few high levels I really hope my plants dont die... I used really nice substrate and also got some plant food to try and make the plants happy. I CANT WAIT for it to finish cycling so I can get fish!
i've been using media bags filled with stratum eco complete and crushed coral... then capped with sand and/or gravel... i put those where i know root feeders will be and i use just sand and or gravel where i want open floor space.. the plants will spread in as nutrients (poop) settle into the substrates there, but it starts how i want
My mother-in-law has gifted us a tiny 10 litre tank and I am so excited to start with this little project! I'm planning on 4-5 guppies, a shrimp and a snail as well as one statement plant in the centre. Possibly a moss ball or two, but I don't want it to get too crowded!
Been watching you for about a year now, it’s funny cause I also use Hygger lights on all my tanks. I also use the double sponge filters that suction cup to the side of the tank , only difference is I use the ones with there own electric motor. I hated the splashing from the bubbles when I used air powered sponges. I though you mentioned in a past video that you live in Minnesota, i also live in Minnesota. I only have 13 small tanks ranging from one 3 1/2 gallon tank to the largest of 29 gallon, i too love plants and my favorite part of aquariums is the plants . I have floating plants in most of my aquariums except for the ones with shrimp which have a lot of guppy grass floating in them and also Java Moss , I also don’t have floating plants in the two tanks with mystery snails that I’m breeding cause they have tops. In 1 and a half years I’ve taken enough plants to fill my first two tanks and let them multiply to fill 13. Love your videos, I’ve learned a lot from you.
This is what a beginner guide should be. Absolutely easy to follow and on to the point. However, you didn’t say anything about setting up the c02 setup needed. Or not needed? I am hoping to start on my first 10 gallon aquascaping. Hoping to hear from you
hi love your videos i have an AI prime 16 hd freshwater light on my 29 planted tank i wanted to get a bigger tank i was wondering what size tank i can upgrade to without getting added lights since they’re very expensive ($249) thank you! 🐟
Usually when I buy plants I let them float free to adjust to my water parameters and the water temperature to avoid what I call plant shock. It reduces/prevents melt or death. After about a week of floating I plant them. I think floating at the surface keeps them closer to the aquarium light and easier contact with CO2 from the air
I have really enjoyed your videos. I have successfully created one fish aquarium and recently bought a 55 gallon. I would like your input on something. I didn’t notice a video on what to do if you’re moving? How could I successfully move my plants and my fish? Ty
I got a topfin 3gal bamboo tank setup. About the light, I did order a hygger as you suggested. Just wondering about this LED light that comes with the setup, do you think its adequate for living plants? I have Bucephlandra, Crypt parva, Cradinalis and Anacharis
Subscribed. Getting supplies for my first attempt at this. One thing Im a little confused about. Should activated carbon be left out of the equation? The understanding Im coming to is the plants themselves actually do the work that carbon would normally do.....am I somewhat on track with that thinking or am I way off? Thankyou for this video, Im taking my time and want to get myself started out in the right way.
Welp I started with 3 plants and a 20 gallon tall hopefully it will do alright enough to get stable after being setup for a week before plants went in.. planning on adding a betta once I see some stable growth and water parameters
Hello! First time fish keeper here. I am getting Panda Cory Catfish as my first fish. They don’t like light. Is it necessary to have a light if my tank is below a window sill?
My tank crashed because of a pH change after a water change. It's been like 25 days so far and it crashed in multiple ways - pH, bacteria bloom, you name it. My fish turned white, some died, some lived after I put them in my hospital tank, and its a total mess. I have a 75 gallon tank with sand, and I just added a small bag of fluval stratum, and will add another bag when it comes in. I just kind of moved some sand and let some fall down and I have some on the top all mixed. I have 2 big sponge filters that go into the corner and are V shaped with air bubbles attached. Right now I am having to change the water every day because the fluval stratum raised the ammonia. What would you suggest I use to buffer the pH of my water from 6.0 to 7.2-7.4 for my community fish? I dont want to change my pH again from a water change. Also, how long is this fluval stratum going to throw out ammonia - I'd like to get my fish back in the big tank asap.
can i start with 5 gallons? though i dont have a budget of aqua soil but i guess garden soil with be messy for me as a beginner so iam planning to extend my budget for aqua soil, is it a good decision? also how many gallons tank at 6:13
Thanks for all the helpful tips. I randomly decided I could change my front entry into a 40+ gal pond. So far it's been going well. Soil and sand, no filter, lots of plants, a few fish. I'm still figuring stuff out. I'd love to hear how you best manage "top offs" to replace evaporated water. My home water is chlorinated, as in chlorinate. So I['m wondering how to add water frequently because of evaporation without hurting the ecosystem. So far I have tap water conditioner but I feel unsure about what is and isn't happening.
Can you add live substrate with the fish inside? When do you do the 50% water change? I havent found a definitive statement in english or spanish aquarium channels that specifies wether fresh water fish can be in the tank while you make the change
Not bad! I have had lots of success with HOB filters and even surface power heads in planted tanks either injected or just dosed but I'll keep the advice for sponge filters in mind just not a fan of air pumps. I like the idea of soil and top layer and may try that soon. I've seen a 50% black soil (pond soil) and 50% ADA aqua soil with a hardscape foundation layer of crushed volcanic rock I really want to try. Maybe you can too? Thanks, or your take on planted tanks, new friend!
i have an AI prime16 hd freshwater light on my 29 gallon planted tank i am going to buy a 40 gallon tank and was wondering if this light is enough for a 40 gallon planted tank if it isn’t what do u recommend? buying another one of these lights is out of the question due to the price ($249) thank you !!!

Well i have a hob folter and what I've done was to place a shower caddy for soap placed lava rock and peace lilly in it and have that under the outket to lessen the flow
Ok so i have a seeded sponge filter from another tank , i do have a a hob came with the 55 gallon and i am only doing a medium flow for now to help with cycle ill cut it to slow later i see that amazon sword tail grows just floating . I did top siol with pete moss and marvle chips as a weight on top

I want to try setting up an a 10 gallon aquarium with scuds, elders livebearers, guppies, assassin snails, brown ramhorn snails, creeping primrose- willow, duckweed, Brazilian pennywort, and Cardinal flower
I have a question maybe you can help me I have a 75 gallon tank planted tank n I’m tryna figure out what could make my plants grow or maybe cause I don’t have it to get any sun light!!!!
Question: will soil substrate cloud the water, resulting in algae out of control and get fish sick with infection. My plants don’t look good-- they never grow big with beautiful green or red leaves, and a lot of them died. I think my stone gravel doesn’t provide enough nutrients and it doesn’t hold the roots. I plan to add soil substrate on the bottom with some stone gravel on top, yet, I concern the fish will get sick as well as cloud water and algae issues. I also concern it may be harder to remove fish waste from soil substrate than stone gravel when doing water change.
Hi I have a 2 foot deep substrate planted tank that just started getting bleed through of aqua soil mixed with fine black Roman gravel it has bled through into my white capped sand and now after trying to fix this I have ended up with most of the aqua soil and gravel on the top and the white sand under neath mixed with the aqua soil which is not what I wanted . Originally I wanted the deep aqua soil substrate under the sand to become anaerobic and break down nitrate so eliminating water changes.
Can someone please help me, my water is like dark brown after I added my sand and soil and I think it was because I just dumped water in which disturbed the whole thing, idk what to do and I only have a sponge filter running, now my soil and sand are mixed together

I am aquatic plant obsessed now!
What species of aquatic plants are you? (Just curious.)
I put a baffle (a plastic soap dish with suction cups) under my HOB filter.
It worked.
Great tip thanks!!

I just bought a 24 hours cycle light from amazon and my plants changed in 3 days, really incredible
I’m not sure exactly why but I find your channel the most likeable out of all the aquarium channels I’ve seen. Keep up the good work 👍🏻
I’m new to aquascaping. Love your videos.
Great info! All of my tanks are planted and I really love the look. Some have pothos growing out of them, which I love!

Litre ? As in gallon? 10 litre is to small for ANY ANIMAL. Do NOT put fish in it . Minimum tank size for animals is 5-6 gal.
@@LuvkittiXO I've learned a lot in the last 7 months 😂 don't worry, my single guppy and 4 shrimps are happy in a 5 gallon now!
