    To help monitor my grandma. She is old now and at risk of falls. She refuses to move and wants to live alone. Having an FP2 can replace the camera and give her more privacy while giving our family peace of mind.

    I live in Alaska where the amount of light per day changes a drastically. So I am using the lux sensor to help know when lights actually do need to be turned on. Most motion sensors just turn on the light when motion is detected. This sensor can actually determine if there is enough light to even warrant turning on the light. I have one so far. Hoping to get more!

    I could see the FP2 as a perfect addition to my smart home Setting up zones for when walking near the entry to turn on the downlight via a LIFX smart switch in HomeKit. Sitting on the couch turning on the Apple TV via Home Assistant. Standing in front of the fireplace to turn on a 15 minute timer to turn the fan on via a smart plug. Walking towards the study and kitchen to turns on their respective lights. I haven't been able to reliably automate these lights in this large multipurpose room. Your video gives me hope that it is possible and the Aqara FP2 seems like this is the right hardware for the job.

    I think I would put the sensor in the bathroom, not having to look for light switches when it’s dark would be a gamechanger. We also have a cat and we don’t want to keep the lights always on so having the presence sensor on the floor would save us some energy consumption.

    I will be using the FP2 in the master bedroom first base on time and zones. After we are in bed. Depending on presence detected on one side of the bed or other. Under bed strip lights on one side or other will turn on dimmed to 30%. As we move toward the master bath the master bath will turn in. If either move toward the exit, the hall will turn on also dimmed. It will turn off as we exit the space. Using the FP2 in the kitchen. We will light accordingly.

    I would like to use it to automate the lights in the living room, kitchen, and breakfast area, since they're all next to one another in an open concept house. It would be fantastic to be able to walk from the living room into the kitchen and have it automatically turn those lights on or if I sit down at the breakfast table. Once I tinker more with it, I'll probably buy a few more to set up around the house. : )

    Nice video. I actually had no idea the FP2 was quite so flexible.
    We have an open plan living space including living room, dining room and a desk where I work from. Being able to split the areas up into zones would be great. I have Home Assistant controlling smart plugs, lights, TV's, speakers, washing machine, heating and a bunch of motion, temperature and humidity sensors. The open plan living space often means I could be working at my desk (controlled by smart plugs) whilst the kids are doing home work sitting at the dining table (under smart bulbs). The motion sensors I have at the moment limit the automations I can create in the different areas and we're forever asking Google to turn different devices on and off!
    The desk could power up when I sit at it, the dining room lights could come on when the kids are sitting there doing their homework, . Switching off lights and the TV when the kids aren't in the room would also be great and save some ££ on the electricity bill!

PIR response time to trigger lights on and FP2 to maintain on state while presence is detected. Difference in my setup is I will be running all automations within Homey Pro. Great video. I'd set up the FP2 in my mom's apartment. She's a fall risk, and has been having health issues especially at night, so the updated sleep monitoring and fall detection would help keep me informed if something happens and I need to take action. Her smart home needs are more basic, but it would also be great to automate her lights based on her location as movement is difficult for her.

    There are just so many ways I could use this sensor and have been pondering since I first started seeing the reviews a bit back. In my living space / dining room / foyer I’m drooling 🤤 over the different zones I could set up to auto activate when I’m in a section. Also setting up a killer movie, workout and game night automations (things I hadn’t even considered until your video). I just heard about the sleep tracking yesterday so I’m looking forward to trying something fun for naps on the couch. Finally, I’m just about ready to dip my toes into home assistant so thanks for the inspiration.

    My favorite thought for the Aqara FP2 is for my Garage. I work a lot in my garage so I can have different tools starting up and lighting for those tools depending on my location. and having it set on the ceiling if anything happens to me (God Forbid) and I end up on the ground the PF2 will call for help. Most important since I live by myself.

    Great review of the FP2. I do have some Aqara sensors so I would use the Aqara FP2 in conjunction with them and other devices but I have to admit I would use the Aqara FP2 in a bit of a selfish way. I have small kids and an elderly parent. I have a lot of situations that I have to handle manually myself at the moment. My father who lives with us is not very technologically acute so I would use the Aqara FP2 to help him be more independent instead of calling for me to help with setting lights and 'his programs' on the tv as he apologizes every time thinking he's a burden. This would give him a boost of confidence.
    For my kids, they are always leaving lights on running around. This would save me from following them turning things off. They also have a tv in their bedrooms but are not allowed to watch after a certain time so I would use the Aqara FP2 to monitor if they are in the room and if the tv is on after a certain time as well as turning off their lights when the Aqara FP2 detects presence but no motion (assumption being that they have fallen asleep).
    These are just a couple ways I would use the Aqara FP2. We live in a 3 story townhome so it's quite draining for me to do all this manually. I know this would eventually require more Aqara FP2s to accomplish everything but if this one improves our lives, it would be worth the cost to purchase additional ones and save me time, money and energy that could be used better directly on my father and kids.

    Great Video! I ran across Home Assistant just under a year ago and I've been hooked ever since. I have several automations setup with Home Assistant, Alexa, and Homekit, controlling lights, thermostats, garage stuff, fans, home alarm, sensors, etc. I currently have a Good Night automation that turns off all of my lights, checks the doors and windows, sets the alarm, and turns on white noise in the bedroom. I've made a trigger for when both my wife's and my iPhone are charging after 8pm it kicks off the automation however it's not perfect. If say she is in the office and puts her phone on the charger and I'm driving home with my phone plugged into the car, it kicks off the automation. Or a slew of other possibilities. I would really like to get an Aqara FP2 to see if I can add a condition that has us both in bed to provide another layer of probability that we are actually going to bed. Thanks for your videos. I am learning a lot from your channel.

      I’m not fully remembering Shane’s automation but it’s simple if you use either a smart plug or if you have homebridge/home assistant setup you can create a virtual switch. An extra smart plug is the easiest way to achieve it. You’ll want home+ or controller for it if you go that route. Then it is just added to your current automations as a “and if” statement.

    Then, I would have four zones set up to trigger a specific camera before the motion sensor activates. I use Ring cameras, so it doesn't start recording fast enough since its in a sleep state till the motion sensor is triggered.

Also opening the remote app on my iPhone. If I get up from chair the tv would pause and turn on the lights. If I walk to the kitchen doorway the lights in kitchen would turn on. If I go to the bathroom doorway/ hallway the bathroom lights turn on. Then when I sit back in my chair the bathroom or kitchen lights would turn off and the living room lights would dim and tv show would unpause. I know there’s a ton of different ways to use this sensor but this is what I’d set up first. Thanks for your videos.

However if she returns all the devices that went off are toggled back on just as they were. I’d use it to refine the lighting automations in my bedroom. Currently I have motion sensors that trigger at different times of day for things like a 3 min on/off cycle if you need to grab something in the bedroom as well as a bedtime automation that turns on dim lights and the tv(very cool). The only problem with these is that they don’t account for my wife sleeping-in(like today) or if she’s already asleep at night. The presence sensor would solve these issues by not triggering my lights and by extension not triggering my wife. 😂

      You’ll want to have the HomeKit device plugin set up on home assistant. Once you do follow these steps:
      Add to Aqara app, set up your areas
      Add to HomeKit,
      Have your HomeKit code ready and then remove the device from HomeKit. Immediately open the discover devices in home assistant and you will see it show up as a HomeKit device. Set it up with the code and you will see the areas all show up as different entities in the device.

    Well i want a presence sensor or finally get around the lights turning off when your sitting watching tv. Im in the process of extending my house for a new living room, so the few woudl be used in here. Basically I would use home assistant so if there’s presence in the room and the light levels be x, to switch my lamps on. Then if my tv is and presence in the roomon to turn on my tv leds. Then if they are a certain colour, I’m thinking red, it knows I’m watching a movie which then turns the lamps off and keeps the leds on for better ambient light for the movie. Then id also do if I get up off the sofa, using a thin film pressure sensor, and there’s no presence in the room to pause the movie. Assuming I’m at the bathroom etc etc. ten plenty other ideas will probably spring to my mind, and I can also ask the home assistant community. Thanks for the giveaway! Best of luck everyone 👍🏻

    List of what I need to wok the lighting like you hace it for zone contolled... Aqara FP2, AqaraM2 hub, What LED Bulbs, Zigbee, Matter, wifi? DO I need an Homepod Mini?

    • @Delyn
      @Delyn  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      If you use Aqara switch, you would only need the switch and the FP2 sensor. If you wanted to control a device within HomeKit, you would need a home hub (HomePod or Apple TV) and any device that is HomeKit compatible

      @@Delyn we don’t want to change out light switches we just wanted to control several smart bulb. So then I’m going to assume I need to purchase a Apple HomePod mini, correct? Thank you for the video and your assistance.

    I would use it as my first motion sensor in my setup I have now. Up to know I only have hue light and some cheap light strips. So I’m very curious to see what this is going to bring me😊

    I live outside the US so I have an Apple TV running on a 2nd router which connects to a VPN. Is it possible to connect Home Kit and/or Home Assistant to two different networks while controlling both via the same app profile?

    • @Delyn
      @Delyn  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      This is a very good question. I’m not sure whether you’d be able to get the devices into HomeKit via home assistant if they were on different networks since the devices themselves wouldn’t be on the same network.

    Yes please do FP2 to HA from scratch. I have it on HA but delete an now I can t add it 😢

    • @Delyn
      @Delyn  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @ppetrix, try a complete reset of the sensor by pressing and holding the button on the device and fully re-adding it to the aqara app. Also make sure it is removed from your apple home app and aqara app completely before you do.

    I would use it to let my cat in and out through the diy hydraulic basement window because I can define different zones with the sensor. with standard motion detectors this is suboptimal and inaccurate, so please give my cat a chance to live happily! thank you!

    So I'm trying to learn about automations in HA so the example you provided is all about turning the lights off. State changes from detected to clear? Am i missing something? Does this same automation turn your lights on and then after the 5 min wait time turns it off of no presence is detected?

    Hi, thanks for the info, may I ask what kind of bulbs you used? The bulbs I buy don't work, I try wifi, zigbee, and nothing.

    • @Delyn
      @Delyn  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Depends on which you’re referring to. All of my bulbs are Philips hue, all of my light switches are WiFi switches

    For mine, I would put in the bathroom and make an automation to let me know if someone’s in the bathroom change the color of the light in the hallway because I have a roommate and sometimes we don’t know if somebody’s in the bathroom or not, and a visual representation would be the best way, but motion sensors do not work Because if you’re in the shower or on the toilet Because they stopped detecting.

    Damn, Delyn- had no idea you got so deep into automations. I loved this video as I have been mentally planning all the ways I’d like to use these sensors. Better still, the introduction to the 5-minute timer is huge.
    That is how I would use this sensor combined with an Aqara vibration sensor and a Flic button. My dryer is not Smart. Putting one of my Aqara G3 cameras in there is not the best way to know when the dryer is done (when I’m not traveling, I work from home). What I would like to do is hit the Flic button when I start the dryer (this part might have better automations) so the rest of the automations knows when to look for the dryer vibration sensor (it’s already there, mounted on the outside but easily sensitive enough to know when the dryer is moving, even slowly). If someone is in the laundry room, the FP2 will cancel any notification. If the room is empty, and the vibration sensor has not senses any movement for 5 minutes, the Siri will tell me through the HomePods that the dryer is done! This should easily save me enough time to allow for 1-2 extra loads per day.
    I would love to see some more advanced automation videos.

    The worst sensor I ever use, it shows ghost all the times, when I back after few days fo2 doesn't work the lights doesn't work completely, I try to reset reset sensor and the lights but doesn't helps. Do NOT buy it, isn't worth.

      @Delyn Thanks for the info, I wanted to divide the zones but it doesn't work, I don't think I'll buy another sensor from Aqara, another problem is cooperation with ZigBee devices and protocols.
